Atom Araullo Resigns as News Reporter for ABS-CBN's News and Current Affairs

Recently, Araullo has been expressing strong opinion on issues, such as the controversy surrounding the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and certain policies of the present administration. Thus, instead of being accused as a biased reporter and thereby affect the integrity of the News Department, Araullo opted to resign.
In the meantime, Araullo will use his time to complete his pending book projects, explore opportunities to pursue his interest in making independent films, and possibly write a column in one of the major dailies and. His resignation from his post will allow him to express his opinions freely and not be limited by his affiliation to a news organization. He also plans to focus on his advocacies on the environment and climate change.
Araullo started his career in the broadcast industry at a young age when he was one of the hosts of 5 and Up. In 2005, he completed his degree in BS Applied Physics from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. After graduation, he became a segment producer for ABS-CBN and eventually became a field reporter a couple of years after.

Jolting Confirmation of a Rumor
The night was spent drinking, exchanging stories, and unwinding. GA and RT were enjoying themselves and since they were invited, they did not really bother to find out who owned the property. For all they know, the property could have been owned by HD, who happens to come from a well-off family.
Ever since he started his career with one of the big networks, HD has managed to keep his life private. No female celebrities have been linked to him, which was not really questioned because the network was not too keen on building a loveteam for HD. The career path allowed the network to partner off HD to several female celebrities in various projects. Over the years, his career seems to have slowed down, but occasionally, he would get opportunities to act and host.
Just as their talk was getting interesting, the next moment led to a more intriguing situation. A car entered the premises, and while GA and RT thought people were coming over to join them, they were wrong. However, they noticed that HD seemed uneasy and they waited to see who had arrived.
In a few seconds, GA and RT could only exchange glances upon seeing that the person who had arrived was famous Non-Showbiz Personality (SP), who is well respected in his field. NP has strong showbiz ties and celebrities have availed of his services to make sure they retained their youthful glow in front of and behind the cameras.
GA and RT invited SP to join them, but SP declined and said he had a bad headache, as traffic was quite heavy. SP retreated to the master’s bedroom. Meanwhile, the boys continued their drinking, but GA and RT had a question that they could not ask HD directly. After all, SP has been surrounded by rumors of his alleged sexual preference, but these talks were often deflected by the fact that he has yet to come out in the open that he has left his marriage.
As the effects of alcohol were sinking in, sleep was inevitable and HD excused himself and told GA and RT that he was going to sleep and started walking towards the master’s bedroom where SP was already resting. GA and RT suddenly had a realization, which they could not believe, but they were not naïve to realize the reason why HD opted to sleep in the same room as SP. Naturally, GA and RT told significant people in their career of what they had witnessed. The response was summed up in smiles, as the incident confirmed two of the hush-hush rumors circulating in the circles.

A day after he and his brother were sued by an anticrime group for allegedly being soft on the drug menace, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista stressed that he has been an antidrug advocate since his years in show business and that he had no hand in the selection of two city police chiefs earlier linked by President Duterte to the narcotics trade.
Writing from Oslo, Norway, where he currently serves as adviser to the government panel in the revived peace talks with communist rebels, Bautista assailed the “controversial” statements made against him by Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) chair Dante Jimenez.
“I am not and will never involve myself in the illegal drug trade. Antidrug is my advocacy since I was 17 years old,” Bautista, who entered politics in 1986, said in a statement sent to reporters on Saturday.
The VACC on Friday filed a complaint in the Office of the Ombudsman accusing Bautista of “dereliction of duty” and failing to control the city’s drug problem, as well as his brother, 4th District Councilor Hero Bautista, for admitting that he used illegal drugs
No say in QCPD selection
“(Jimenez) is concluding that because the two generals linked in the illegal drug trade were former Quezon City Police District chiefs, ergo the mayor is (involved), too,” Bautista said. He was referring to former QCPD directors Chief Supt. Edgardo Tinio and Chief Supt. Joel Pagdilao.
“Just for the record, I am not involved in choosing the district director of QCPD. Even if the law provides that local chief executives will have to choose from among three to five names from the list given by the (Philippine National Police), not a single list reached me,” the mayor said.
Even before he became mayor in 2010, it was already a practice to appoint the district director “without any consultation or ‘courtesy’ (to the mayor),” he said.
He recalled that since the term of then Mayor Adelina Rodriguez in 1976, it has been the vice mayor who is tasked to oversee local antidrug programs and projects.
Bautista also defended himself against criticism that he has been soft on his own brother Hero, who is now undergoing a six-month rehabilitation program.
“[W]hen this controversy arose, many were asking why didn’t I bother to scold (Hero) or proactively take action about my brother’s drug use,” he said. “Hero is 48 years old, has his own family, is independent from us. We barely see or talk to each other because we, as individuals, have our own set of lives and concerns.”
Bautista stressed that he was “proud” that his younger brother was “taking full responsibility for his actions.”
