Repost: Blackpink's Lisa Loses 1B Won to Former Manager's Scam

YG Entertainment has confirmed that BLACKPINK’s Lisa had been swindled 1 billion won (approximately $816,000) by her former manager.

On June 2, Market News reported that the former manager “A” had exploited their connections and received money from Lisa, saying that they would look into real estate for her. Lisa then lost all her money when Manager “A” spent her money on gambling.

According to an anonymous informant, the former manager “A” had worked with BLACKPINK since their debut and was someone that Lisa had trusted during her rookie days. The incident has surprised many, as the former manager was well-trusted within the company and by the members.

A source said, “Because Lisa is a foreign member and has been in Korea by herself since she was young, she is very vulnerable to these things. It is very unfortunate that these things happen in the industry. This is a serious situation that can damage the domestic management’s image.”

Following the report, YG Entertainment released the statement below:

"After looking into the matter, we confirmed that Lisa was a victim of fraud by former manager “A.”

According to Lisa’s wishes to settle this amicably, as the former manager was someone Lisa had trusted, Manager “A” has reimbursed a part of the sum and has left the company after agreeing on a reimbursement plan for the rest of the sum.

We bow our heads and apologize for causing concern to the fans who love our artist.

We are embarrassed by the misconduct of “A,” and we are feeling responsible for the management and supervision. We are taking preventive measures so that this does not happen again.”

Repost: SolGen Calida Hits Back at Celebrities Who Bashed Him on Shutdown of ABS-CBN

Images courtesy of www.gmanetwork.com/ IG: mr.cocomartin

Solicitor General Jose Calida on Monday lashed out at celebrities who were critical of him and his role in the shutdown of the broadcast operations of ABS-CBN.

Calida, who participated in the joint hearing of the House Committees on Legislative Franchises and on Good Government and Public Accountability via teleconferencing, slammed "stars and celebrities [who] have taken to social media to rail against what they perceive to be oppression on the part of the government."

"In desperation, they would want to use their influence over their multitudes of fans to muddle the issue and drum up support for their network," the solicitor general complained.

Calida specifically pointed to actor Coco Martin who mentioned him in his social media post defending ABS-CBN.

Calida said Martin appeared to be spoiling for a fight, and that the latter felt that he could solve the issues of ABS-CBN the way he solves them in his teleseryes.

"However, we cannot discount the fact that in his rage, Coco Martin's outburst showed a clear lack of understanding of the situation. The sarcasm is clear: 'Ipagdarasal ko na lumiwanag sana ang inyong isipin at kung sino man ang nag-utos sayo,'" he said.

"If I had not been the Solicitor General, I would have called his bluff and make him eat his words," he added.

Calida in February filed a quo warranto petition to forfeit the legislative franchises of ABS-CBN Corporation and its subsidiary, ABS-CBN Convergence, Inc.

He alleged that ABS-CBN has been broadcasting for a fee and operating a "pay-per-view channel in ABS-CBN TV Plus, the KBO Channel, without prior approval or permit from the National Telecommunications Commission."

He also claimed that ABS-CBN has issued Philippine Depositary Receipts to foreigners, and that ABS-CBN Convergence, Inc. resorted to an "ingenious corporate layering scheme" to transfer its franchise "without the necessary Congressional approval."

In his speech during the joint hearing, Calida claimed that ABS-CBN had been "deceiving" the Filipino people for many decades, and it is now incumbent upon Congress to decide whether or not it would still grant a franchise to the network.

"The time has come to expose ABS-CBN, whose owners and corporate officers continue to deceive the Filipino people into believing that they are 'in the service of the Filipino people,'" he said.

"In truth, however, ABS-CBN is motivated not by service but by greed and desire for power and influence. Their brazen act must come to an end. The hour of reckoning may have been delayed but it has now come," he added.

The joint House panels began hearing the bills seeking to grant another 25-year franchise to ABS-CBN after the House leadership decided to drop the measure that would supposedly give the network a provisional franchise until October 31, 2020.

Cayetano, himself an author of the provisional franchise bill, has said the issue on the ABS-CBN franchise has already become "so divisive" and is taking up the time even as there are more pressing matters to discuss such as that of COVID-19 response measures.

He, however, vowed to have a fair and comprehensive hearing on the issue at the committee level.

Hearings on the matter would continue on Wednesday, June 3. — DVM, GMA News

Broke Businessman, Indifferent Wife

Several types of people dominate the so-called elite in modern times. The first includes families who are born with money and a reputable name. The second includes people who have just made their billions and attempt to use their money to give credence to the name. The third comprises families with elite names but no longer have the money to sustain a high-end lifestyle. The first group can be snobbish and refuse to consider the second type into their circle. After all, the names of the first group have been in the social circles for many decades and have been in the society pages since the time newspapers began. The third group is silently ostracized and subject to gossip about how the once powerful suddenly dropped from the pedestal.

Money is exhaustible, but the name and face have to be kept upfront. One day, Business Personality (BP) realized that he was broke. BP comes from a wealthy family whose name is well-known in the social circles. Although BP keeps a low profile, he is known in showbiz circles as well. Allegedly, BP lost most of his money in supporting a candidate who lost in the last election. While BP was confident that he sided with a winning candidate, the ballots said otherwise.

The money BP invested in the losing campaign was not all his. He apparently borrowed from other investors and now, these people are running after him for payment. Rumors even indicate that these creditors might come out in public if they are not paid soon. If that incident were to happen, BP and his family would be subjected to an unwanted scandal.

Meanwhile, His Wife (HW) seems oblivious at reality, as she continues to spend like there is no tomorrow. Credit card dues have allegedly reached seven-digit figures. HW came from humble beginnings and she knows what it means to be poor. Incidentally, their home is a rented residence somewhere in a high-end location and with money troubles, BP’s overseas relations had to pay for the rent. Their family reputation is at stake and thus, BP needs all the help he could get at this point.

‘Why is face so important? Face represents one’s self-esteem, reputation, status, and dignity. Face is social currency.’ ― Maya Hu-Chan
