Being a Great Pal
Sometime ago, Network Actor (NA) was overheard to say that a Female Celebrity (FC) with whom he had a relationship was hard to deal with. Although he tried to work for the success of their relationship, FC was too immature to take things as they were. Even if they spent years as a couple, they ended their relationship and within weeks, he was already replaced.
Thus, FC seems to have a history of being difficult. Being an artist would always be a safe excuse, as artists are supposed to be emotional and passionate. However, FC’s people skills, especially toward ones who have crossed the line, can be horrible. In other words, FC can be a toxic friend at her worst. By contrast, she can be the most lovable at her best.
Despite having her nice side, when her toxic side takes over, she can be manipulative and not give room for her lover. Thus, former lovers would complain about how she can be too clingy to the point of suffocating them. Even her female friends have noticed that FC can be toxic. Lucky for FC, one of inner circle friends, Versatile Talent (VT) has understood her moods. So as not to be irritated at the negativity of FC, VT allegedly has devised her way of staying away from FC. VT keeps herself busy. Even if VT is between projects, she makes sure she is doing something productive, which can be a legitimate excuse not to be with FC during her moments of negativity. FC cannot fault VT for not being around, as she has her responsibilities beyond showbiz commitments.
With VT busy with her own activities, FC struck a friendship anew with Popular Personality (PP). As they move in the same field, FC and PP found many things in common and thus, formed the foundation of their friendship. Similarly, FC and PP have had their hearts broken many times and misery was also something they shared. Thus, kibitzers are saying that the cliché, ‘Misery loves company,’ is true.

Repost: Congress Will Not Prioritize Franchise Bill of ABS-CBN

A day after President Rodrigo Duterte's fresh tirades against ABS-CBN Corporation, the House of Representatives will continue to sit on the bills seeking to renew the franchise given to the media network.
On Wednesday, December 4, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, a Duterte ally, said lawmakers have "more than enough time" to tackle the measure in January and February next year. ABS-CBN's legislative franchise, however, expires by March 30, 2020.
"I reiterate that Congress would be fair. We'll always have a fair hearing. Alam naman 'to din ng management ng ABS-CBN na inuna namin 'yung budget at saka mga revenue bills (ABS-CBN's management knows we prioritized the budget and the revenue bills)," Cayetano said in an ambush interview.
"Pero we have more than enough time, more than enough time to tackle it in January, February, dahil March pa naman 'yung expiration ng franchise (But we have more than enough time to tackle it in January, February because the expiration of the franchise is still in March)," added the Taguig City-Pateros congressman.
House committee on legislative franchises chairperson Franz Alvarez told CNN Philippines that his panel has no committee hearings scheduled anymore until December 20, when the 18th Congress adjourns session for the holidays.
"Wala nang hearing for the year (There are no more hearings for the year)," the Palawan 1st District congressman said in a quick phone interview.
This means there will be no committee deliberations this month for at least 5 bills in the House seeking to renew ABS-CBN's legislative franchise for another 25 years.
This goes against Cayetano's earlier pronouncement that the House would begin tackling the bills by end-2019.
On Tuesday night, December 3, Duterte once again vowed to block the renewal of the franchise of ABS-CBN, which he previously accused of "swindling" him for supposedly not airing his paid political advertisements during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Cayetano, Duterte's running mate in 2016, earlier said he has a "personal complaint" against ABS-CBN, citing the alleged unfair airtime given by the network to vice presidential candidates.
Still, the Speaker assured ABS-CBN of "fair" deliberations in the House and said Duterte "respects" the legislative process.
"As you know, he's the President at mayroon siyang stand sa mga issues so nirerespeto natin 'yan. Having said that, nirerespeto rin ng ating Pangulo 'yung proseso so hintayin na lang natin 'yung proseso na 'yun. But even the President admits that there has to be a fair process," Cayetano said.
(As you know, he's the President and he has a stand on issues so we respect that. Having said that, the President also respects the process so let's just wait for that to happen. But even the President admits there has to be a fair process.)
In a separate press conference, House Minority Leader Bienvenido Abante Jr said lawmakers have not yet received any marching orders from Cayetano regarding how to proceed with the bill.
But he believes that if members of the House majority decide to take their cue from Duterte, ABS-CBN's franchise would not be renewed.
"Sa minority po (In the minority), we are free to decide whether we grant the franchise or not. Of course, hindi ko masasabi sa majority congressmen (I can't say the same for the majority congressmen). They might perhaps toe the line with President," said Abante.
"So kung halimbawa i-to-toe po ng maraming congressman [ang gusto ng Pangulo], of course it's almost next to impossible to actually renew the franchise (So if for example many congressmen would toe the line and follow the President, of course it's almost next to impossible to actually renew the franchise)," added the Manila 6th District congressman.
ABS-CBN's current franchise, which was approved through Republic Act No. 7966 on March 30, 1995, is set to expire on March 30, 2020. If the bill renewing the franchise does not get signed into law, ABS-CBN would have to close down its radio and television operations. – Rappler.com

Disappointed Expectation
As soon as the movie was over, the staff set out the camera and The Interviewer (TI) to catch the reaction of the audience. Expectedly, VA was caught as she was leaving the cinema. The camera was on and TI asked VA for any words about the movie. VA said that she would appreciate it if she were left alone. However, TI was insistent, oblivious to the seeming bad mood of VA.
As TI was persistent and VA apparently could not escape, she started saying her piece. The camera was rolling when VA allegedly said that the movie was a waste of time and she regretted having to brave the two-hour traffic just to be there. Further, the movie seemed to be so amateurish and she wondered why the production even bothered to spend resources on such poor material. Then, she said that she’s known for the genre of the film and therefore, she knows when a movie is bad.
TI was shocked at how VA responded. Earlier, VA was in a happy and supportive mood, and in a span of a few hours, she became irritable. The reaction was unbelievable knowing that VA and the cast members were close. Thus, an investigation was done as to why VA’s mood could have changed.
An incident happened when VA entered the theater. The organizers invited her, but did not get a confirmation. Thus, she did not have a reserved seat along with the other celebrities. She and her companion were made to sit with the ordinary folks. This placement did not sit well with VA and she wanted to leave immediately. However, her companion wanted to stay and soon, was enjoying the movie. VA had no choice, but to stay and watch until the movie ended.

Repost: Angel Locsin Joins Hans Sy in Forbes' List of Generous Philanthropists

Actress Angel Locsin might as well be a real-life "Darna" for her generous donations to charity and advocacies for social change.
Locsin, together with second-generation tycoon Hans Sy of the SM Group, has been named in Forbes' 13th annual Heroes of Philanthropy list featuring "30 outstanding altruists" in Asia-Pacific.
The list acknowledges billionaires, businessmen, and celebrities who have made a difference in addressing social issues across the region.
"Our aim is to highlight those giving their own money, not their company’s (unless they are the majority owners of a privately-held firm)," Forbes said in releasing the new list, which reviewed the monetary value of contributions as well as the depth of their involvement in various causes.
True to her name, Forbes acknowledged the 34-year-old Locsin for her generous ₱1-million donation and her personal delivery of relief goods to residents affected by earthquakes in Mindanao last October.
"Locsin, whose mother was adopted by a family from the island, has long helped the region, which has been riven by sectarian strife for decades," the global magazine said, noting that the multi-awarded actress previously extended aid to displaced victims of the 2017 Marawi siege.
Forbes said Locsin has donated about ₱15 million in the past decade through a mix of educational scholarships and aid to typhoon victims, while also pushing causes for the rights of indigenous peoples and combatting violence against women and children.
Locsin once portrayed the Filipina superhero "Darna" for a TV series, later on saying that one doesn't need a costume to be a hero. She would visit communities and distribute aid in plain clothes and without media coverage.
Second-generation taipan Hans Sy of the SM Group also made it to the Forbes' list. Sy, who sits as chairman and director of his family's SM Prime Holdings, was recognized for funding the construction of Child Haus, which caters to cancer-stricken children and their caregivers.
Sy, together with his siblings from their late father Henry Sy, Sr., topped the latest list of Forbes' richest Filipinos for a combined net worth of $17.2 billion (about ₱878 billion).
Sy reportedly paid $400,000 (about ₱20.4 million) to build the first Child Haus property in 2010, which has evolved into a temporary shelter for poor families coming from the provinces. Forbes reported that Sy's associates have also stepped up as co-sponsors and poured additional funding into Child Haus.
Others personalities on the list are Alibaba founder Jack Ma, who now runs a foundation under his name; Korean actress and singer IU — the youngest on the list at 26; Azim Premji, founder and chairman of Indian tech firm Wipro; and Jeffrey Cheah, chairman of Malaysia's Sunway Group.
Triputra Group founder Theodore Rachmat, JN Projects founder Judith Neilson, Fortescue Metals Group chairman Andrew Forrest, Minderoo Foundation cofounder Nicola Forrest, Nicola Forrest, Long Thanh Golf Investment and Trading Joint-Stock Company's Le Van Kiem and Tran Cam Nhung, Amorepacific Group CEO Suh Kyung-bae, Hengyu Group founder Gong Junlong, Green City Group chairman Wu Yuanxi and Hanking Group chair Wu Yuangang, and Hexaware Technologies' Atul Nishar formed part of the list of 30 philanthropists for the year.
