A bench-clearing brawl broke out on Monday during the FIBA Basketball World Cup matchup between the Philippines and Australia at Philippine Arena.
The melee happened at the 4:01 mark of the third quarter with Australia, 79-48, in control when Gilas Pilipinas guard Roger Pogoy and Boomers wingman Chris Goulding got tangled up on a drive.
Australia big man Daniel Kickert responded with a forearm on Pogoy, after which Jayson Castro hit Kickert.
All hell broke loose after that, with both teams getting in on the action.
Players from both sides traded blows, with Milwaukee Bucks big man Thon Maker even trying a flying kick on Terrence Romeo.
Officials finally got all players under control. While referees were reviewing video of the incident, former Gilas forward Marc Pingris walked over the Philippine side to try to calm down the home team, even whipping out his cellphone to take a selfie. —JST, GMA News

Not Again

Sometime ago, Seasoned Actress (SA) earned a reputation that bordered on being pitied and hated. As a prime figure in the industry, observers have tagged SA as generous on the one hand and irresponsible on the other hand. However, no one can put down SA, as she manages to get out her predicament before losing everything.
Over the years, SA knew how it is to be poor and thus, her kind heart would often take over. Stories say that SA would even spend her earnings on treating the crew on her set and giving away her remaining money for the day. There is, of course, another side to this generosity. SA has developed costly vices as she navigated her career.
The pressure to maintain her status and the call to enjoy has led to a bottle or two, which became more. Consequently, her love for alcohol has affected her disposition and professionalism. Worse, she is alleged to have spent time in casinos, and as everyone knows, no one really wins on the gaming table. Losing money just makes gamblers want to play more with the hope that they would recover their losses.
Then, just as when most people, even her family, gave up on her, SA would manage to score a project or two and once again prove that she is still a force to reckon with on screen. Thus, networks would also gamble on her. Having SA in any project would still provide interest even if the investment risks are high.
When SA affixed her signature on the dotted line, hope prevailed that she would be true to her word. The contract allegedly had several limitations, such as not getting involved in illegal substances. The good news is that the contract assured SA of steady income.
To the surprise of many, SA would allegedly still ask for money from her costars for fare or even for food. Some noticed that SA would even request to take home food, which raised questions if she were scrimping on food. Apparently, SA is still short of cash, as she has been spending much of her income on her old ways. Sometimes, SA would come to work tired, as though she lacked sleep. Sadly, such moments would make people conclude that she could have spent the night allegedly playing at the tables or drinking so hard that a hangover would ensue.

Failed Competition

With the availability of smaller venues, celebrities, old and new, can stage concerts to please their fans and show off their talents. These days, coming up with a concert for promotions is an attractive marketing ploy to increase awareness of emerging talents as well. As long as producers see the potential in a talent, they would risk investing in a show to promote such talent.
Many talents can pull off a concert with just having their fans as audience. A fan base can sometimes be enough to fill in a venue or to generate the needed revenue to earn profit. Nonetheless, regardless of the earnings, seeing people flood a venue can inspire a talent to pursue improving his/her craft.
When Surprising Celebrity (SC) delighted the audience, her management saw much potential in her. SC had the charm and the attractiveness that made fans gravitate toward her. Moreover, SC knew how to carry herself and remain humble despite her countless breaks. Without much fanfare, her management team decided to give her a concert. As predicted, tickets were sold-out in a short period. Executives even allotted their precious time to watch SC.
The reviews were positive and consequently, the management decided to bring her show to other locations. By giving her the opportunity to be seen in many places, SC was on her way of establishing an admirable career.
By contrast, Close Competitor (CC) had her concert as well. Like SC, CC had a purpose for her show, and that was to promote her career. Her ticket sales did as well as SC’s, but the sales were tainted with rumors that many tickets were bought by her camp and were given away for free. The cost did not matter, as pride and reputation were at stake. CC cannot fall behind her contemporaries. However, competition was turning out expensive and sooner or later, the family coffers might be too depleted if she tries to outdo SC.
Perhaps, CC should try to understand that genuine support from fans is needed for a stable career. Moreover, talents who have a strong and supportive fan base usually are given projects. If fans patronize the products of their idols, then the return on investment would be high, and such is what producers and the network look for. While competition may be part of the game, a talent must reach out beyond her family for support.
