Letter from a Reader: The Copy and Paste Food Blogger
Image courtesy of Fashion PULIS reader
Hi Fashion Pulis!
I would like to draw your readers’ attention to a food blogger’s (FB) penchant for copy-pasting. FB is a self proclaimed foodie, yet when it comes to writing about wines FB resorts to copying the winemaker’s notes verbatim, without crediting the sources.
To illustrate:
You can tell how weak FB's wine knowledge is with a simple slip-up like this:
There’s really no shame in admitting that FB does not have a good knowledge about wines, but FB should at least have the decency to admit this. Proper citation is a very basic rule of writing, and as someone who makes a living from writing, FB should know this full well and be more responsible about it.
FB's lifting isn’t limited to wine though. In a post about Vietnamese cuisine, I spotted these passages:
If you scour FB's blog you’ll find more snippets like these. It’s easy to tell which lines aren’t original because FB's real writing is different, so whenever a sentence is uncharacteristically well-composed, chances are FB simply copied it from somewhere, like a press kit provided by the establishment or company. There’s nothing wrong with referencing the press kit, but if FB is simply too lazy to paraphrase then FB should use quotation marks!
Plagiarism (whether borne of intent or ignorance) has always been something I strongly deplore, and I can't stand seeing someone gain so much popularity while passing off other people's writing as his/her own. Sadly, in our country intellectual theft isn’t taken seriously (hello Tito Sotto). I can only hope that this FB realizes the error of copy-pasting.
Thanks Fashion Pulis for helping bring this to light.
Yours truly,
Elle

Backfiring Assumptions

After a tumultuous event, Intriguing Actress (IA) finally found Someone Interesting (SI) online. Yes, IA had ventured in cyberspace to give love a second try. Soon, IA developed feelings for SI and asked him to come over to town. Unfortunately, IA found out that SI was not as well off as she had hoped him to be.
When SI came, IA had to be the gracious host, and thus, supported his needs. SI allegedly is staying with IA and is trying to make a career in the competitive culinary field. The irony here is that someone in IA’s past used to be in culinary as well. While restaurants are springing left and right in the country, putting up a restaurant with a foreign chef still requires much investment. If SI intends to establish himself, he has to offer something unique but attractive to the local foodies. Moreover, he has to be able to convince investors to support his endeavor.
Given that IA is still trying to reestablish herself in her genre, generating the money to support her alleged lover will be challenging. Before spending on anyone else, IA has to think of her children and other legal battles that have come her way in the past years. With such situation, however, IA seems to be amiss in some of her financial commitments. Some are pointing out that she might be spending on SI at the expense of neglecting to pay her obligations. Hopefully, her creditors will not make public such financial matters, as IA needs all the positive vibes to revitalize her struggling career.
Looking back at the life of IA, several points standout. First, at the height of her career, she had a series of movies that showcased her range of talents and she established a reputation for being one of the country’s finest actresses. Second, when IA loves, she is passionate to the point that she will readily give up her career. Third, IA can be quite feisty when it comes to issues involving her, and thus, she was, at one point, a favorite subject for media to cover. Finally, the many challenging moments in her life taught IA to swallow her pride, at least for the project she needs to sustain her lifestyle.

WATCH: Sexy Dancers in Post-LP Event Tolentino’s ‘Surprise Gift’?
Source: www.newsinfo.inquirer.net
The emcee in the event reportedly said the performers, a sexy singing and dancing group called Playgirls, were a “surprise gift” to those who attended the event from Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino.
Tolentino is purportedly one of the members of LP’s senatorial slate in next year’s polls.
He expressed his desire to run for senator on Tuesday in an event where officials from his hometown province of Cavite were present.
Tolentino, however, denied reports that he brought dancers to the gathering.
“I was just a guest at the birthday party. I did not bring any dancer or singer. The emcee probably got misinformed,” he said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.
Netizens, meanwhile, slammed Tolentino for his alleged act.
Twitter user Schweddy Balls asked: “Is this a bachelor party?”
User Renzo Blanco said: “Cheap and chauvinistic.”
Another user, Karl Rex Villaruel said: “I shiver at ‘gift.’ What is happening to Tolentino?! Strike 2 na siya this week!”
Cleve Arguelles opined: “A proof that PH political parties are still very much like an old man’s club.”
LP presidential bet and former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II led the oath-taking of 80 of its new members in Laguna on Wednesday.

Embarrassing the Actor to End His Amorous Intentions
“I love you,” are words that some people value hearing. Some wait for a long time to hear such words, while others spew out the statement easily. When Shy Talent (ST) whispered “I love you” to Non-Committal Celebrity (NC), he did not expect her reaction.
Throughout his young career, ST has undergone so many trials. He comes from humble beginnings and entering showbiz truly changes his life. From the boy raised in the province, ST had to deal with the sudden fame that came with his career. Initially, he was seen as someone who could not shake off his provincial roots, and thus, he had to improve his image. Worse, his initial foray into acting was met with criticisms.
Anyone who has a faint heart would have been easily discouraged at the comments hurled at him. He could have either quit or succumbed to temptation to relieve feelings of failure. His network, however, had faith, and patiently, ST improved his acting. From playing important roles in teleseryes, he even made several movies. His career was moving, and that was most important.
By contrast, NC built her celebrity status with a big splash. As soon as people recognized her talent, NC was plunged into fame. Other than looks, her assertiveness and honesty were her assets. Soon, she made it to television and even had opportunities to choose the network that best suits her.
Cast in the same project, ST and NC developed chemistry. However, even with rumors saying they’re an item, such stories were baseless behind the cameras. NC is someone who has no qualms with hooking up with a man she fancies. Since ST is attractive himself, NC allegedly made him part of her list. One encounter led to another and another.
For some, being intimate is a sign of love and eventual relationship. Thinking that NC feels the same way as he, ST said “I love you!” at the height of their desire. That line distracted NC, and suddenly, she was turned off at the attitude of ST. While lust pervaded, the thought of ST having feelings for her made NC uncomfortable. Love might lead to commitment, which was something that was not in her mind and heart. Thus, to awaken ST to the reality that she is not ready for any personal relationship with him, she told him to stop if ever he has plans of courting. To stress her point, she sort of embarrassed him by choosing to be with another actor, when she was supposed to be with ST. Poor ST, he is still quite young and naïve at playing the game of love.
‘There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections.’ – John Lennon
