YANAGI, So Japanese

What surprises you in every turn? Midas Hotel and Casino will take the wind out of your sails. Inspired by the bequest set by the building’s former occupants, Midas Hotel and Casino surface from its historic roots and redefined itself as a design-led lifestyle hotel. It delineates the luxury, intimate and quirky experience with an out-of-the-box ‘avant garde’ approach. Notwithstanding its prominent structural design that marks the onset of a picturesque tradition in the hotel industry, rekindled by dazzling lights in harmony with its theme-centered interiors, Midas Hotel and Casino embraces by heart a culinary gem at the Mezzanine floor – the Yanagi Japanese Restaurant.

The restaurant’s enchanting name was hailed from a mystical Japanese willow tree that legendarily boosts the essence of love and dreams. Coinciding with its enthralling name, Yanagi put forward a bracing catch on authentic Japanese fine dining inviting guests to its homely-pondered setting. The greatly savored flavors of Yanagi’s Japanese dishes were ingeniously crafted by its Executive Chef Kimito Katagiri who seasoned his expertise through across-the-board training in the kitchens of Japan and sweeping toil in five-star hotels in the Philippines for over thirty years.

Yanagi offers a wide range of Japanese core dishes, which includes sushi selections, teppanyaki and fusion-inspired creations, though not overlooking into the traditional Japanese staples. Chef Katagiri bears in mind that serving authentic Japanese dishes is a rule of thumb, still he guarantees that the dishes are deep-seated traditional yet entwined with unique taste and presentation style.

Stirred by the thoughts of Filipinos not keen on eating raw foods, Chef Katagiri set off a dish that exemplifies Yanagi’s vision in upholding authenticity squeezed with creativity – the Aburi Sushi Five Kinds. This one-of-its-kind sushi that everyone can enjoy is comprised of slightly burnt hamachi, eel, salmon, tuna and lapu-lapu. For food enthusiasts, Tempura Maki, a share of deep-fried filled rice and enormous tempura rolls is a craze to fuss over with. Hold tight on your seat as you spoil yourself with a serving of Ebi Tamago, a plateful of huge prawns sunken in an exceptional egg sauce. To remarkably tote up with this delectable cuisines is the Kaki Papaya, a slice of a grilled tropical fruit cuddling a boiled Japanese oyster topped with caramelized miso mayo sauce. With all these lip smacking servings, freshen up your taste buds with Yanagi’s signature brewed citrus iced tea.

Yanagi’s humble beginnings broadened by genuine offerings and style have reaped its sweet fruits from the high preference and sugar-coated tongues of the top-of-the-line celebrities and personalities. YANAGI now offers “MISONO DAYS” weekend buffet lunch for only P1088net per person – bringing back the hey days of the famous restaurants from the previous hotel occupants to put into your week, but this time with a new bite. Hook up and feel the seventh heaven at Yanagi.

Yanagi Japanese Restaurant is located at the Mezzanine floor of Midas Hotel and Casino, 2702 Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City. Be delighted with all its surprises from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm and from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm. For more information, please call (02) 902 – 0100 or go to www.midashotelandcasino.com.

The Pick of the Season

The appeal of Good-looking Singer GS caters to general audience and to the straights and gays alike. GS looks wholesome, reserved and clean cut. Physically, he looks like someone that a girl would take home to mommy.

However, some gay rumors attributed to him have been persistent to this day. Expectedly, nothing has been confirmed from GS’ camp. For years, he had succeeded in evading the sensitive issue of his preference. It helped that he is a quiet guy and had no known enemies who would want to nail him down.

But somehow, rumors like these were doused off when GS had a relationship with a Hot Celebrity HC which kind of shocked his fans and showbiz followers. His sudden but brief affair with HC had sparked ugly rumors once more that GS was just trying to divert the public’s assumption from his real persona.

At a just-concluded reality search of his network, GS took a liking at one of the Show’s Finalists SF who stood out for his singing prowess and extremely good looks. When the television search ended, SF being a finalist got to have some regular appearances on the network’s special variety show.

Prior to the rehearsals for the show that weekday, GS reportedly took the opportunity to engage SF to a private tutorial – in GS’ house of course. GS was allegedly so smitten by SF that he started doing the tutorial regularly at his home.

Everytime the said tutorial was done at his home, GS would make sure that SF would feel really special and cared for. How? GS would reportedly have the food specially catered for them and that SF would be picked up and delivered home only by GS driver.

Clearly, if that is not special enough, I don’t know what is.

Will GS and SF’s togetherness be for a long haul this time? As they say – only time will tell.

The Lip-syncher

Controversial Actor CA did it again! CA can probably make a sizable collection of all his controversial ‘bloopers’ done in a year.

CA seems not to tire being snooty and tactless towards just anybody he is displeased at. Most notably, observers say, CA is rude to people perceived to be lower in rank than him, whatever that means.

It can be said that among the new crop of actors, CA is one blessed, lucky guy to have been given the breaks other actors can only dream of. Thanks in a big way to a Major Star MS who paved the way for him. If not for MS, critics believe CA would still be struggling to this day.

But observers and critics alike believe that CA’s diva attitude needs a major overhaul. For a man like him, his issues seem so trivial to even get involved in. Big or small, CA’s name crops up into issues with wild abandon.

At a mall during the launch of his album, the venue was filled by fans and buyers of his album. Take note that these fans buy the album with a promise that every unit bought would be correspondingly autographed by CA. Reportedly, on stage as CA was singing some cuts from the album, the audience realized that he was not singing live but lip-synching.

The audience probably felt cheated and bad about it that some could not control themselves and booed CA on stage. How did CA react? Reportedly, CA was pissed by the booing and did not sign the cd’s bought by the buyers who patiently fell in line for his autograph. Instead CA allegedly left right away and told the staff that he was rushing for a commitment.

There you go! This is the latest, and the list gets longer. Yes it is - done today, then tomorrow.
