Last September 19, 2013 Manila, Philippines – The Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013 went big this year with fashion shows, interviews, and parties featuring themes inspired by ancient and modern architectures from around the world. Fashion influencers from the Philippines flew to Milan and attended the Stuart Weitzman Milan flagship boutique at the iconic Via Sant’ Andrea during the height of the Fashion Week, hosted by shoe designer Stuart Weitzman and the brand’s global ambassador, the iconic Kate Moss. These fashion and style influencers from the Philippines were Vice President of SM Supermalls Steven Tan, Assitant Vice President for SM Premier Malls Michelle V. So, Deputy Editor, Associate Publisher of Lifestyle Asia and Stuart Weitzman Philippine Ambassador Cheryl Tiu, Philippine Star Therese Jamora-Garceau, and international fashion bloggers Bryan Boy and Ingrid Chua-Go.

Set in the world’s premiere shopping destination, the 3,000-square-foot store at Via Sant’ Andrea marked the 100th Stuart Weitzman global retail store. The store also debuted the innovative retail concept designed by world renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Stuart Weitzman has been the forefront of style and design, and his collaboration with Zaha Hadid to develop these retail concept stores reinforces his vision and commitment to breaking new ground. Her works have been hailed as an architecture that transform our ideas of the future into concepts of bold and visionary forms. The retail design is fluid and playful with a dialogue of geometry and materiality that creates an enchanting rhythm of folds and recesses, futher shaped by functional and ergonomic considerations. Rooted in a palette of subtle monochromatic shades, Zaha Hadid creates an interior landscape of discovery, centered on two separate zones, to enhance the relationship between customer and the collection.

“The design is divided into invariant and adaptive elements to establish unique relationships within each worldwide location; yet also enable every store to be recognized as a Stuart Weitzman space,” explains Zaha Hadid.

“This is a major new initiative that will help achieve the next phase of growth and raise brand recognition worldwide,” said Stuart Weitzman, Executive Chairman. “I know that the marriage of Zaha Hadid’s incredible architecture and my collection will create a one-of-a-kind retail experience.”

A Catastrophic Affair

Amid all the controversies generated by their relationship, hope springs eternal for this Celebrity Couple (CC). ‘You and me against the world’ was the peg for the Boy (B) and Girl (G) whom most people have branded as a most-unlikely couple for many reasons. Yet the CC's commitment to each other is as solid as a rock, that continues to be stronger by the day.

For the longest time, people close to G always had reservations towards B whom they felt was only out to use G for his personal interest. His alleged chronic attitude and were of no help to calm them down. Yet, even from G's camp, there were also malicious talks that B was up for a personal gain in committing herself to him. Using G's penchant for good looks, and her past affairs as their benchmark, her bashers said that no way can B ever measure up.

However, if reports are to be believed, G's loved ones did have a point in rejecting B. Apart from what were already exposed, which were barely scratching the surface - there were also accusations of B being an womanizer. Reports had it that one of the many reasons why his Former Partner FP gave up on B was because of his alleged philandering. Many were privy to B's unlimited appetite for the femme fatale - of all shapes and sizes. He has been in this for so long so much so that he had reportedly contracted a disease. The blow to FP was so serious, the last straw for her to finally call it quits.

At the moment, B & G are taking their sweet time savoring every moment proving their detractors wrong. Meanwhile, they better be consistent as one bad move is reason enough for these critics to gloat to their content.

"The ideal man bears the accidents of life with dignity and grace, making the best of circumstances." ~ Aristotle

Gretchen Barretto : "Claudine Confined at Hospital Basement!"

MANILA - Socialite actress Gretchen Barretto finally confirmed rumors that her youngest sister Claudine Barretto was confined in a hospital for drug use.

In a statement sent exclusively to entertainment portal Pep.ph, Gretchen finally broke her silence after their father, Miguel Barretto asked them to drop their surname if they are ashamed of it. The statement confirmed the earlier claim of Claudine's husband, Raymart Santiago, that Claudine used illegal substances.

In her statement, Gretchen recalled that in January 2011, Mr. Barretto pretended to suffer from heart attack and was confined in Medical City.

"That was just a ploy to get Claudine confined at the basement for her severe drug abuse and mental condition."

"My brother, Mito, and his wife Connie, their son John, Marjorie and my parents planned and witnessed the confinement," Gretchen said.

She then revealed that Claudine's treatment for drug addiction was continued in a private clinic in Chana, Thailand.

In December 21, 2012, Mr. Barretto called for a family meeting.

"He said that he had just come from a meeting that morning with Ms. Eos Capistrano, a counselor from White Plains who said Claudine needed to be confined at the basement 12-18 months minimum. And that it was a choice of confining her at the basement or seeing her in the morgue at the rate she's going. I remind him again that I am just repeating exactly what he said then. My father told us that his choice was to see Claudine in the basement and, of course, we all wanted the same thing."

"I believe that it is up to my parents to own up to the truth to make this possible. It is not important now to point fingers as to who, what, why. We do not need to cover up anyone's stories or put up a front to avoid shame. We are beyond that. We hear Claudine's cry for help. Why can't you?"

Below is the full statement of Gretchen as released by Pep.ph on Wednesday.

GRETCHEN’ BARRETTO'S FULL STATEMENT

I have suffered long and hard in silence all through the verbal, physical, financial and, most painful of all, emotional abuse from my very own parents.

In April 2013, in spite of the attacks on my character from my mother (who publicly disowned me) and Gia Barretto-Reyes (who fabricated stories), I chose to deal with my pain privately.

Today, after the false statements made by my father, I feel I've earned the right to say my piece.

As to whether they are bad parents or they raised bad children—we all know that all children are born good and pure. How they turn out, whether good or bad, will reflect on the parents.

I recall from a very young age my mother saying when asked how many children they have, would say "I have 7 monsters" and maybe in her eyes, we were and still are.

It pains me to be depicted by our parents as the ‘bad children’ who are only out to ‘bully’ Claudine. Everyone knows NO ONE can bully Claudine! No one will dare.

We supposedly envy her success, which our father says, is ‘sibling rivalry.’ Why would we seek the destruction of our sister? What possible benefit does that give us?

We are happy with the lives we have and we are content and happy. But it certainly does not add to our happiness to see this family drama played out in public.

He also said that we should back off. "Tumahimik na kami." But I realized that "puede akong manahimik pero hindi ako matatahimik".

What JJ, Marjorie and I are prepared to do is to defend ourselves from repeated lies, from undeserved attacks, and from the idea that each of us can be sacrificed and that our lives can be ripped apart to promote the illusion that all is well with Claudine.

My father said that Raymart is promoting a lie in exposing Claudine's history of drug abuse.

We are not willing participants in Claudine’s war against Raymart. But she forced us to speak out when she named us in her complaint-affidavit, weaving her tale of ‘abusive sisters.’

We submitted our affidavits, guided by one simple, unbending rule: to tell the truth. We swore to tell the truth and we told the truth.

And Raymart is telling the truth.

I would like to remind my father that in January 2011, he pretended to have suffered a heart attack and confined himself in Medical City and got my sister-in-law, Connie, to call Claudine at 2 a.m. so she could go to the hospital.

However, that was just a ploy to get Claudine confined at the basement for her severe drug abuse and mental condition.

My brother, Mito, and his wife Connie, their son John, Marjorie and my parents planned and witnessed the confinement.

The following month, Claudine's treatment for drug abuse was continued in a private clinic in Chana, Thailand. After arriving back in the country, she had counseling with Mr. Dondi Ayuyao.

Again, I would like to remind my father of a family meeting that he called Connie, JJ, Marjorie, John and myself to attend at 3 p.m. on December 21, 2012 at Da-Ude Tea Place at the Fort.

He said that he had just come from a meeting that morning with Ms. Eos Capistrano, a counsellor from White Plains who said Claudine needed to be confined at the basement 12-18 months minimum.

And that it was a choice of confining her at the basement or seeing her in the morgue at the rate she's going.

I remind him again that I am just repeating exactly what he said then. My father told us that his choice was to see Claudine in the basement and, of course, we all wanted the same thing.

Our family has, for the longest time, struggled with the problem of how to deal with Claudine's problem.

Sadly, we now recognize that any effort to help her was doomed to fail because my parents are not capable of dealing with the truth. Another example of this is the drug test result they recently showed to the press.

We did not reject our parents. They rejected us.

Sadly, they mistake our concern as envy, and our refusal to support their lies as betrayal.

Whether they believe it or not, we care for Claudine.

However, the Claudine that we see and experience now is not the Claudine we used to know.

In my quiet moments, I am in desperate search of that Claudine.

The sweet Claudine, the loving Claudine, the caring Claudine.

Our hardworking and successful baby sister who brought so much pride and joy to the family.

In a perfect world when I dream everything and anything is possible, I'd like to believe that I can see the vibrant, loving, caring, generous and beautiful Claudine, come back.

I believe that it is up to my parents to own up to the truth to make this possible.

It is not important now to point fingers as to who, what, why.

We do not need to cover up anyone's stories or put up a front to avoid shame.

We are beyond that.

We hear Claudine's cry for help. Why can't you?

Not Giving It All

No job is perfect - even the best and coolest jobs have their downside. No matter how attractive one's job is, there will always be bumps that you wish were not there. But if you are a professional who love your job - no bump is too hard to hurdle.

Hosting is one of the most fun (if not glamorous) jobs one can ever have. Whether one is hosting a television show or an event, there is nothing like being at the center of it all while connecting to a live, receptive audience. Being the master of ceremony, the competence of the host is paramount to the success and failure of the program. The energy of the show will depend on how professional and skillful the host is - the more energy he/she puts in, the more likely the event will be successful.

Sometimes 'though, there are small glitches that happen along the way - like a slight change in the chronology of the program, the names of people to be called, and the like. Usually, these are not that huge as to turn the program upside down. There will always be changes on site, and hosts should be flexible. After all, it's such a small sacrifice for a job that pays well.

Being well-connected, this popular Celebrity Host CH gets to host several big campaigns and corporate events. Owing to her celebrity status, CH is paid a lot bigger than ordinary hosts. Some say that it's only her name – not necessarily her skill or lack of it, that CH banks on and gives her the edge over the competition. While she scores big on the former, she fails on the latter - a number of her clients have soon realized.

CH got a big project to host an event of a multinational company. It was a big corporate gathering that showcased the milestones of the company internationally. However, when the show began, CH displayed such attitude that pissed off the organizers, and later on, the client.

Reportedly, CH got annoyed with the changes in the spiels and greetings of the program. She refused to adjust to the program and heed the instruction thus putting the event in jeopardy. The organizers, as well as the company executives were extremely upset with CH's attitude, wondering why she couldn’t even deliver something that's part of her job. Allegedly, some executives even complained at how boring CH handled the whole event.

Expectedly, when the same client recently launched a big company breakthrough, the name of CH was already deleted as host. Overheard that the company executives were really disappointed - did not want a repeat of the same - CH's attitude and performance.
