A Time for Me
Time to lose weight.
Time to try wake boarding
Time to travel.
Time to share your blessings.
Most of us would think that these items are farfetched. Worse, as we examine our progress towards achieving these and see nothing, we feel dismayed. But there are things on our list that need no thinking time; only an impulse action to make things happen. Think—time to don a red dress, time to buy a new bling, time to dress up your Chihuahua, time to carry a big handbag, time to wear a pair of cobalt blue pumps, and what have you. And sometimes, we only need a spark of idea and a rekindling of buried hopes which may be jumpstarted by some visual foray during a shopping spree or a graphic exhibit. Why not enjoy both in “A Time for Me”?
A “Time for Me” is an exhibit of things you need to find time for, coupled with a shopping bazaar that could just get your creative juices flowing. It’s happening at the Eastwood Central Plaza on November 16- 19 from 10 am to 12 mn daily.
There’s no time to waste. Get your ME-time in no time as you check out this bazaar!

An Amnesiac 'Carinderia' Girl
Some weeks before the premiere night of her solo movie opposite a very Popular Actor PA, her former friends and co-workers from the carinderia FC, who had then become her biggest fans saved up money to come to Manila to attend the premiere. They sent messages to RS multiple times to ask if she can give them tickets to catch a glimpse of her. But until the day of the premiere, there was no word from RS. Thus FC's efforts to come to Manila to see and watch her were put to waste. Needless to say, they were all hurt and devastated.
Perhaps it's time for RS to take stock and take a long hard look at her past. Maybe, it's not yet too late to acknowledge the people who one way or another had been a big part of what she is today - her FC's who had been supporting her from the very start. Who knows, if RS will do this, fate will be kinder to her and her next movie will fare a lot better and not bombed at the box office.

Letter from a Reader: Get and Go?
Dear Fashion PULIS,
When a big and popular gym decided to open a branch in Binondo, I was happy as there is no modern and new gym in our area. Upon inquiring, they confidently said that the gym would be operational by Oct 15, 2012 and that their target soft opening was on September 2012. Given that they have three months time, I told myself that would be enough for them to do all the construction-related work and therefore decided to join them 1st of July and paid the corresponding fees.
Came October, I passed by this mall (where they have a booth) and followed up on the status of the opening of the gym. I was told that there were some delays but they promised that it should be operational by mid-November. Came November, I asked and followed up again, and was told by the manning staff that I can start going to the gym by last week of November. Excited, I decided to pass by the area to check on the construction progress and how the gym would look like. To my surprise, the whole area is still covered and construction work seemed to have just started. I spoke to the contractor and was told that their deadline is December 2012.
I went back to the booth and asked for their manager, and the staff explained that by last week of November, the group exercise area will be ready and will be part of their soft opening. I doubted it very much as the said area is still under construction for interior works, wiring and all. I spoke to someone from their head office and all they could do was apologize and offered excuses that there were some problems with licenses and turn over of tenant space.
Apparently, what this gym has been doing is to get more accounts as possible to sign up for them and give false hopes and endless promises as proven by the events unfolding. This is a complete fraud and I wish to warn people not to be fooled by their sales talk. By the way, a refund will take 60 days to process.
Thank you for publishing my letter, Fashion PULIS. This is for everybody's information and hoping everyone will be warned.
Sincerely yours,
Paulo

Smart Scores ‘5-0’ over Competition in NTC test
The latest network quality tests conducted by the National Telecommunications Commission has confirmed the network superiority of Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) over its competition, according to the company spokesperson.
“This time the score is ‘5-0’,” said Smart public affairs head Ramon R. Isberto. “Smart outperformed the competition in all five parameters of the 3rd Quarter Quality of Service QoS) Benchmarking tests.”
Representatives from the NTC made over 2,189 test calls while inside a moving vehicle to measure the performance of the two telcos, which had both recently modernized their respective networks in Metro Manila.
Smart had a clear edge in the Blocked Calls or Grade of Service (GoS) parameter, with only 2.54 percent of calls made on the Smart network not connecting successfully. Globe had more blocked calls, registering 2.75 percent in the said parameter.
Globe also had more dropped calls, with 2.75 percent of incoming calls made on the Globe network terminated involuntarily. In contrast, Smart had a Drop Call Rate (DCR) of only 2.15 percent – against the minimum 2 percent DCR standard.
Smart still dominated in terms of Average Receive Signal Level, registering -61.14 dBm against Globe’s -69.21 dBm. This means Smart had stronger signal strength while the voice calls were ongoing.
Smart was also ahead in the Average Signal Quality category. Smart scored 0.65 while Globe scored 1.03, against the minimum acceptable range of from 0 to 4, or the closer to 0, the better. This shows that Smart had better voice quality transmission than Globe.
Smart also outshone the competition in terms of Call Set Up Time, or the time it takes for a network to activate the called party. Smart met quality standards with a score of 11.23 seconds, versus Globe’s 11.56 seconds. The acceptable industry standard is below 14 seconds.
“What these numbers mean is that Smart subscribers enjoy better-quality service,” Isberto said. “We are able to deliver superior voice, text, and data services even though we have the largest subscriber base.”

Desperate Measures
Cover girl CG is acting up like she is so desperate for a lover. Once she was linked to the Hottest Guy HG in town. After her split with HG, she hooked up with a Very Popular musician VP who after a while dumped her. Right now, CG's undivided attention is focused on this one cute Media Personality MP.
CG tries her best to get noticed by MP at all costs, to the extent that she relentlessly stalks him via social network. Only recently, CG allegedly sent MP something sweet to his office. Unfortunately, due to health limitations, MP wasn't able to consume it. Hence, it was his staff who did the consuming for him. At MP's latest tv guesting, the Host HO, who was a friend to CG made insinuations to MP that CG's got a crush on him, as in he is the apple of her eyes. Surprised by such declaration, the ever gentleman PM, didn't want to offend HO and managed (or pretended?) to look like tickled, or "kilig" in tagalog. Being in media and aware of how television can cruelly magnify expressions, MP's reaction was understandable.
In one of MP's tv assignments, his heart went out to his subject, a Weather Forecaster WF. He took pity on the man for being so lowly paid that he couldn't even afford to have a cellphone. CG who was as expected watching MP at that time took the opportunity to once again make her presence felt, and perhaps gain points. Guess what CG did? She immediately sent over units of cellphone to MP's office. The package's sender's names indicated it came from CG and her gay bff.
But wait, there's more! In another situation, MP was going to host a formal corporate event and he tweeted asking his friends where he could buy a nice suit. CG read his tweet, and again came to the rescue and offered to send someone to take MP's measurements -- a subtle yet vulgar way of saying she would provide what he needed. But MP politely turned it down.
Seriously, those in the know said that MP just wants CG out, as he is completely turned off by her over-aggressiveness in pursuing him. Sounds cruel to hear for someone being alluded to. But, yes, the truth really hurts.
For those who don't know MP's background, his actions speak a lot about him and where he comes from. He just can not be dazzled and bought. And to CG, after your experiences with MP, guess it's about time to reassess yourself and learn more on what works best. Try another tack, something that won't disappoint big time. Also, prayers help.

When She Gets Hired, I Plan to Resign!
Is the management of a major network (MN) up for a major reorganization? One of the original heads (OH) when the network was launched is threatening to resign. The reason: the network is hiring a consultant (C) with whom OH has some problems with. When OH accepted the offer of MN, the position gave him more control over the direction of the network, its talents and shows. Under his leadership, the network had good productions and managed to lure the big stars under its wings. Unfortunately being new in the game amidst the crazy competition, no matter how hard he worked, the network could not seem to move up the ladder of ratings. Some reasons for such were already beyond his control, anyway.
Meanwhile, C had established a legacy prior to leaving her former network. C was able to make some of her ex-network’s discoveries carve names for themselves. She also had several shows that earned good ratings. Thus, when C moved on, she decided to contribute to the industry by professionalizing talent development.
Recently, C and OH were part of a team that aimed to develop fresh talents for MN. However, controversy hounded them as some were not happy with the final choices. Nonetheless, the program was able to generate noise and interest. OH seemed fine with the arrangement as C was under the capacity of a consultant, while OH was the head of a department.
Now, that C has allegedly been hired by the network, OH is not comfortable with the development as his issues concern integrity. C has been known in the circle as one who is shrewd and scheming, as was proven in their last project that just concluded. In that project, C made sure that she'll make huge profits for her business which she attached to the project. Likewise, majority of MN people share OH's sentiments that C is not a fair team player.
Will C’s new role run smack into OH's plans for the network? Will OH be relegated to a lower position since C is more senior than him? Incidentally, the top honchos of MN are not keen on accepting his resignation. Hence, the waiting begins. Will MN attempt for a win-win situation or will it drop OH in favor of C or vise versa? In the first place, why did the network decide to hire C anyway? Will C manage to turn around the fate of MN? Again, it’s a waiting game.

Rigodon of the Network Couples
First, Couple 1 had certified box office actor (CB) and low profile actress (LPA), whereas Couple 2 had box office hunk (CH) and naughty actress (WA). Both couples remained steadfast amidst each respective trials. Couple 1 kept breaking up and reconciling, whereas WA remained loyal despite rumors of alleged infidelity of CH.
Then, CB and WA were paired in a movie that required them to go on overseas location. The distance could have been a factor to ease up on their own personal issues, that somehow led CB and WA to become close, (err, physically close?) After that, the pact was set that everything that happened in that location would stay in there. When they came home, it was back to normal business, as if nothing happened. Unfortunately, someone leaked information to LPA. A woman scorned, she confronted CB who of course denied everything.
Since LPA could not get an answer that she wanted, she called CH, and sarcastically asked if WA got piqued by her conscience, meaning LPA wanted to know if WA opened up to CH. Expectedly, CH got mad and broke off the relationship. As for WA, she had enough of CH's infidelities and could not remain unaffected forever. She saw no point in salvaging the relationship and agreed to a break up.
In one incident, LPA and WA had some kind of altercation when they bumped into each other. Hints of the alleged confrontation slowly leaked into the media but were immediately censored as such stories would not help the network, CB, and LPA and WA.
Therefore, since CB had no more LPA, and WA had no more CH, they stood their ground and never looked back. Well, regardless of the reason, it only proves that the stars are just like everyone of us, capable of committing indiscretions. Thus, the couples deserve second chances at happiness despite all odds.

Is Celebrity Couple Secretly Married Overseas?
How true that amidst the malicious rumors about them, this controversial couple had already tied the knot very quietly (and secretly) on a recent trip abroad? Between the two, it is The Lady TL who is more ecstatic for this milestone with The Gentleman TG, her boyfriend for years. Eversince she became Mrs. TG, TL has been on a happy mood and always wearing a beautiful smile for everybody. She's been slowly showing different persona --- charming, tactful, friendly. Indeed, what beautiful love cannot do? Having her one true love, TG to finally affix his signature on that very significant contract was the be all and end all for her.
For the longest time, their relationship had been put on the line as TL believes that TG was often target of dangerous flirtations from various beautiful women out there, something that "playful" TG has a hard time resisting. TL's insecurity is widely talked about in their circle. She is just too tired of wearing that RED lipstick over and over again just to prove herself. She believes that the only way to end her misery is for both of them to ink that pact.
On the other hand, TG realized he just had to give in to TL's persistent pleas to have this marriage --- for her peace of mind, and his, as well. 'Though he admitted that it wasn't that easy at first. Apart from TL's constant nagging that really annoyed him, TG weighed all the pros and cons, including a lucrative career that can be imperiled if and when TL decides to leave him for good. And the fact that his family didn't fully approve of TL was another thing he risked and really gave up for the "love" of her.

Yomenya Goemon opens in Greenbelt 3
Japanese Spaghetti HouseYomenya Goemon launched its first Philippine branch on October 18, introducing local foodies to Italian pasta and pizza cooked the Japanese way – which is fresh, upon order – and infused with indigenous Japanese flavors.
Yomenya Goemon, which literally means Western Noodle Restaurant, first opened along Koen Street in Shibuya Prefecture, Japan in 1976. Its logo sports the face of a famous lawbreaker with a heart of gold. “Ishikawa Goemon is a legendary historical Japanese outlaw hero who stole from the rich to give to the poor: kind of like a Japanese version of Robin Hood,” explained Richmond Yang, Managing Director for Yomenya Goemon.
The brand famously hijacks the Japanese staple of noodles by marrying it with Western-style pasta, using premium ingredients from Italy (durum wheat semolina spaghetti noodles and extra virgin olive oil) and Japan (onsen egg, nori, mentaiko, Ao-Shiso, and Karashi Takana).
“The menu is special as Yomenya Goemon is able to seamlessly integrate Japanese and Western ingredients in a harmony of flavors that is recognizably Western but distinctly and undeniably Japanese,” said Richmond Yang.
“The result is a perfect fusion of East and West, with Japanese Spaghetti Noodles meant to be eaten and enjoyed the traditional Japanese way, which is slurping them with chopsticks,” Yang said.
The “Japanese spaghetti house” has become such a favorite among the ramen-loving Japanese that it is now the second largest food and beverage player in Japan.
Under the Nippon Restaurant Systems Group, Yomenya Goemon currently has over 300 restaurants and more than 2,500 stores covering 40 brands, in Japan alone. Other locations include Singapore, Shanghai and now the Philippines. Plans of expansion are also underway in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan.
Filipinos familiar with Yomenya Goemon abroad needn’t worry, however, as all ingredients are either imported directly from Japan, or sourced locally through distributors of imported items.
Local franchise owners Richmond S. Yang, Luigi Vera and Robert Epes adhere to the strictest standards in the kitchen, that even the equipment is exactly the same as those utilized by the Yomenya Goemon outlets in Japan and Singapore.
“Our Sauces are prepared in our central kitchen using recipes approved by our Japanese principals following the same recipes in Japan and Singapore,” said Luigi Vera.
The kitchen staff initially conducted training in Singapore, with follow-up training classes on food and service standards conducted under the auspices of Japanese and Singaporean Chef Trainers in Manila.
“Food preparation is meticulously Japanese in cooking style as all the Japanese Spaghetti and Japanese Pizza dishes are cooked fresh upon order, to deliver you the best product possible,” said Luigi.
Customers may choose from the Grand Menu, 90% of which is composed of items served in all countries, and the rest originals based on “popular local flavors” as concocted by the research and development team
This means that Filipinos may not only sample 30 unique Japanese Spaghetti variants and seven Japanese Pizza variants, but also original dishes particularly tailored to the Filipino taste.
“For most of Japanese Spaghetti & Pizza dishes, they are available in the Philippine market bearing the exact same taste profile as the same dishes in Japan and Singapore because we feel the Filipino’s palate is already at the level of sophistication to fully appreciate their unique and distinct flavors,” said Robert Epes.
“The Philippine Flavors line-up of Japanese Spaghetti & Pizza dishes, however, are uniquely Filipino as they were developed exclusively for the Philippine market using indigenous ingredients such as our ubiquitous aligue or crab fat paste and longganisa breakfast staple,” Luigi added.
The menu helpfully marks with a Philippine flag the dishes exclusive to the local market, such as the Pork Longganisa & Broccoli Spaghetti (P285); Crab, Shrimp, and Scallop with Crab Paste Spaghetti (P325); and Longganisa Pizza (P395).
All-time favorite dishes, which stand out because their taste profiles represent a Japanese take on a classic spaghetti favorite, are tagged by the Goemon head logo.
These include the Squid Ink Spaghetti (P240); Carbonara with Yolk and Bacon (P260); Hokkaido Cheese Cream Soup Spaghetti with Scallop, Corn, Bacon and Potato (P295); Carbonara Meat Sauce with Onsen Egg (P325, in beef or pork meat sauce variants); Smoked Chicken and Three Cheese (P350); Avocado, Bacon and Shrimp with Cheese Cream Sauce (P375); Mentaiko, Shrimp & Japanese Herb Ao Shiso (P395); and Porcini Pizza with Bacon and Three Mushrooms (P450)
Japanese Spaghetti dishes’ serving sizes are either regular (120 grams) or large (160 grams), both generously portioned but meant ideally for individual servings. Diners may upsize to large portion (P120), and order add-ons of soup (P20) and wafu salad (P100).
The Japanese pizzas, meanwhile, come in a single size: 10 inches with eight slices good for three to four persons.
In addition, Yomenya Goemon also provides Regular, Large and Dessert Set Menus, where one can enjoy considerable savings compared to ordering á la carte, as well as three different Half & Half Sets (P450-P550), each with two half-portion fixed Japanese Spaghetti variants with a soup and a single-serve drink.
A kid’s set menu is also inclusive of Neapolitan spaghetti (50 grams), chocolate cake, and orange juice.
The dessert menu provides options such as Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Ice Cream (P160), Soufflé Cheese Cake (P160), and Mango Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream (P160).
There is also a range of hot and cold beverages, including Iced Royal Milk Tea (P80; with ice cream, P100), and a choice between bottomless Red Iced Tea (P85) and bottomless Lemon Iced Tea (P85).
Yomenya Goemon is located at the 2nd level, Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati City. It is open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday till Thursday, and from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. For reservations, call 729-0586.
For additional news, Yomenya Goemon Philippines provides updates on Facebook (www.facebook.com/YomenyaGoemonPhilippines) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/YomenyaGoemonph)

Turn-Off Behavior of the Lifestyle Writer
As in any product launch, there were freebies or gifts given to the guests as tokens of appreciation and product promotion as well. These gifts are usually given during or towards the latter part of the launch. Since the guest list was screened, it goes without saying that the organizers expected a smooth sailing launch, which meant that no one would go around asking for his/her gift bag ahead of everyone else or acting too comfortably while mingling with the other guests. Or so the organizers thought…
One of the guests at the said launch was lifestyle writer (LW) who is known for his social crossovers to various forms of media. Prior to the start of the event, LW was seen along the hallway of the holding rooms looking like sneaking to get a few gift bags. Then, he handed the gift bags to his assistant with instructions, “Itago mo!” The two proceeded to the elevator while the assistant occasionally glanced in case there were witnesses to their mischief.
With his sneaky behavior, one could not help but think if LW behaves in this way in every product launch he attends. No one talks about it if ever maybe because of his status and influence.
Incidentally, if LW did not ask permission for the gift bags that he got, what do we call his act? And what do we call a person who commits such act? I can almost hear your brutally honest answers.

Just Unstable or Merely Resentful?
Movie Lead Actress LA1 has hurdled life's major difficulties even at an early age. Her life is a story of survival and was probably the reason why she has that certain strength of character as some people observe. But along with that also is a rumor of her being "inconsistent," to put it mildly.
Before the rehearsal of a scene of her movie, Lead Actress LA1 and some Extras EX were briefed about the details of the scene: execution, the emotions involved, and even the wardrobe to be worn by the characters that were shown to them. LA was cool about everything and had no complaints, outfits included.
But just when everything was ready and was about to shoot, LA1 suddenly demanded that her outfit be changed because it did not look good and was not suitable for the scene to be shot. The EX were dumbfounded because it was just minutes ago when LA1 said that she was okay with everything. Then someone commented that maybe the rumor was true after all, that LA1 has some "instability" problems.
Then while LA1 was changing outfits, someone from the staff overheard her saying, " Hay naku, bakit kasi hindi ako pinayagan magdala ng stylist, eh yung isa pinayagan, " ( referring to her fellow Lead Actress LA2 ). Turned out, along with "instability," it was also insecurity that got the better of her.
Such rumor did not die but actually surfaces everytime she displays mood changes at the click of a finger, oh well.

Dial "Play and Fun"

Good looks runs in the family of this sociable celebrity SC. His physical looks and towering height alone will make for an ideal leading man material. But unfortunately, it was his choice to do only a few movies and instead opted to concentrate on what he does best. Apart from being visible in social events, SC is also an in-demand talent in his field. Some girls who don't know any better, really fall for him.
But there's a caveat.
Showbiz has enough of attractive men whose gender preferences will make girls scream in dismay. Rumors are abound about those who for one reason or another refuses to come out. Yes, it is, dear readers, SC is a confirmed one, yet not out. To his credit, he manages and carries himself well on gender issues surrounding him. Well, probably it just takes some getting used to. But rumors are rumors and SC can not get away with it.
One of them came from a massage parlor receptionist who says that SC is a frequent client. The place described as a red light district is quite popular among gays located somewhere in what is now called the new Sin City. But SC is very careful, or he won't be smart for nothing. He does not physically show himself at the joint but gets to enjoy and have fun just the same. Yes, SC prefers to "order" by phone and have the "goods" delivered to him - massage with extra service, that's more like it.
Certainly, SC can have his cake and eat it, too -- that's right!
Do you know SC? Please abide by the GUIDELINES in writing comments if you want them to be posted. Initials and comments that are too explicit will not be accepted.
