Her Moves to Belong

The glamorous actress (GA) cannot be faulted for acting the way she does among the people she wants to get acquainted with. GA has a colorful showbiz career that began in her teenage years and spanned for a little over two decades. She gained popularity for her classic beauty and sexy image. She led quite a colorful lovelife, too especially during her younger years, and until now that she has quietly settled, her every move still stirs up interest among showbiz followers.
However, amidst the fabulous life she has now, there's still this one aspect that is wanting. Seems that no matter what GA does, the need to be accepted by that social strata to which her partner/husband belongs has always been elusive to her. She is often direct in her dealings with people whom she wants to get acquainted with. At one time, GA found out that a high-end fashion designer from one of Europe's fashion capitals was coming to visit the country. She wasted no time and immediately organized a formal dinner for some big names in the fashion industry and extended same invitation to the said designer. However, since the fashion designer did not know who GA was, the invitation was declined. To save face and further increase her stock, the dinner reception got featured in a major broadsheet.
In another incident, GA tried to visit the residence of a prominent and wealthy fashion supplier. Her move was prompted by her curiousity upon knowing that the said supplier lived in an exclusively upscale condominium. GA wanted to be friends with him and sent a dinner invitation. But again, since the invitee wasn't really that close to GA and didn't see the relevance of a dinner date with her, said invitation was politely turned down.
For those who know GA, those two instances are nothing new. For the ordinary observer, it could only mean her trying really hard to squeeze into a society that finds it difficult to accept her. Owing to her image and past indiscretions, maybe it is high time that GA learns to accept the truth - that trying to belong should not be forced, but earned.

Snobbish Male Performer

At the appointed time, the stars were there, as promised. But the press waited long for RA to appear. The waiting stretched further causing them undue restlessness. They all sensed that RA did not seem to want to be interviewed. Good enough, the other talents saved the day, including a young controversial actress, who was very obliging to them.
The time wore on and the press got so pissed with RA's prima donna antics. They also complained that not one from among the organizers and the road manager even attended to them. You know the feeling if someone invites you to a gathering and when you arrive, you are ignored and left to fend for yourself. That was what these poor reporters' been through. And the only request they made earlier and which was promised them - to interview RA - seemed to be getting futile as time went by. The organizers obviously could not produce RA. But some few minutes later, lo and behold...RA finally showed up! The press was relieved -- but not for long 'though. For RA appeared detached, unfeeling and bored. He obliged to answer a question or two, then left, saying that he had other matters to attend to. How cruel is that?
How can RA regain his former stature if he treats people that way? Perhaps talents should begin to realize the value of out-of-town press conferences and positive interaction with each local showbiz media. The battle for network supremacy and star popularity is not only confined in Metro Manila but also fought nationally. If you're a star -- and especially if a comebacking one at that, like RA, this kind of impression is definitely the last thing you will need. In this business, if you don't go by the rules - either you bloom or get doomed.

Just another Jolly Stroll in a Magical Resort

Accomplished actress (AA) and actor politician (AP) were spotted enjoying themselves in a popular tourist destination outside of the country. AA has always been known to keep a quiet disposition amidst all the controversies that have been dragging her name. The latest controversy is her alleged affair with a former boyfriend of a more controversial actress of lesser stature. Rather than dignify the accusation, AA opted to keep quiet.
Meanwhile, AP is the opposite of AA in terms of his love interest. After becoming a single father, he has been linked to several young actresses, and has yet to commit to a longer relationship with any of them. Quietly, AA and AP were able to hide whatever they are building until they were spotted last week. While some social networking sites have confirmed their presence in the destination, here is a photo to prove AA and AP were indeed together. Hopefully, AA and AP finally have a lasting happy relationship.

Abusive Intentions

Is Comedian Host (CH) taking advantage of his involvement with a group of elderly? CH seems to be always mentioning the group as the beneficiary of whatever winnings he will earn in contests that he joins. One time, after CH won in a contest, he was requested to present some members of the group. Some members showed up, and CH bragged that a good portion of the winnings would be given to them. However, not a single centavo reached the group, and the members who were present left empty-handed.
Sometime ago, the group held a regular, twice-a-month meetings at a venue owned by CH. CH charged each member a certain amount for the use of his venue.
While CH seems to be having a friendly relationship with the senior citizens, some are actually uncomfortable and feel that CH is merely using them. Worse, some of them think CH is already exploiting them. Yet, CH makes them feel that they owe him something. The members of the group come from all walks of life. Some are really poor, while others are just comfortable. The head of the group and CH are good friends; thus his behavior is often overlooked and not openly discussed.
CH is a good performer onstage, and can easily sound off as credible when he talks about social issues and political matters. However, his efforts have not been enough to secure him a political position in his area. Since elections is near, some members fear CH might exploit this group to gain votes if he decides to run again.

Scripted Move

Fast-moving actress (FA) arrived at an Awards Night with her troop of fans. The fans brought with them a lighted board with FA's name on it in support of their idol. Other guests saw FA with the fans and were even together when they passed by the lobby going to the theatre which was the venue of the event. Inside the theatre, FA sat on her assigned seat, while her fans occupied their area. When FA's name was called, she walked onstage, and her fans naturally screamed with glee. FA appeared surprised and acknowledged them and said, “Oh, there you are!” as if she did not know that they were there all along. Those who saw her with the fans earlier could only smile and shake their heads in disbelief.
FA entered showbiz with a lot of promise, her career moving quickly and she was hardly lacking of projects. She belongs to showbiz royalty where her family is considered a pillar in the industry. FA has appeared in several television programs and movies that further honed the thespian in her. Apart from her acting skills, FA's natural beauty is what makes her fans and including male admirers drawn to her. She had in fact been the subject of a fistfight between two hot and desirable men a year ago. However, some negative publicities about her continue to surface every now and then resulting to not-so-good impressions of her and her personal character. Nonetheless, FA seems to be bent on surviving these intrigues in her personal life. In spite of everything, she's focused on her career and she might even be the next important star of her network.

Exactly the Sprightly and Blythe Behavior That Means…?

On a flight going to a provincial show, two male singers (MS1 and MS2) and an upcoming talent (UT) were behaving in such a way that would make onlookers wonder if they were indeed confirming the rumors of their being "closeted." UT, who has yet to prove himself in the business, was overheard speaking bekimon while asking where they were to sit. As the plane was about to land, MS1 stood up and in shrill bekimon manner, asked if he could remove his seatbelt (obviously, he already did) even if the sign was still on.
MS1, MS2, and UT probably felt it was safe to let their guards down as they were only with their female handlers. Both MS1 and MS2 have been rumored to be gays for quite sometime, in which they have vehemently denied despite the subconscious flinging of their fingers. MS1, in order to dispel such rumors, even went on a very public dating relationship with a female performer in the past. However, they were not too convincing as a couple until they broke up .
On the other hand, while MS2 was moving up in the elimination rounds of a contest where he got his exposure, the audience quickly saw his softness and stance, which made gaydars go wild. However, despite the obvious image, MS2 denied he was gay and to dispute that perception, he owned up to a relationship with a female co-contestant. As for UT, he's got that 'good guy' image. Unfortunately, since he is very new in the industry, his demeanor comes out too strong for some of his fellow actors and lately, even to his supporters.

LACK of Popularity
An overused but still effective formula in launching the career of a newbie is to team him/her up with another performer. However, some networks have gambled into pairing off a more popular talent with a newbie in hopes that the popularity of the former will rub off on the latter. In the case of this couple, rail-thin actress (RA) and hotshot performer (HP), the network is hoping that their gamble can pay off. As a love team, they do have the screaming fans, but both have yet to appear together in a movie that can test their box-office draw.
While there are denials that they are a couple, RA and HP are often spotted together in public and are behaving as if they are. The other night, an FP reader spotted RA and HP having dinner at a steakhouse near their network. The good thing about this date is that RA was seen eating, which could quash rumors about her having an eating disorder. Although they were seated next to each other in the darker area of the restaurant, they were with a chaperone.
After RA and HP were done with dinner, as they were approaching the door, the restaurant staff asked if they could have a picture with RA, to which she willingly obliged. HP and the chaperone were left standing near the door. A few seconds passed, no one bothered to invite HP to join in the picture taking. It was as if no one noticed him. Talk about being trapped in an awkward situation. HP’s face showed a lot of discomfort that the crew forgot that he, too, was a “star."
Can RA's magic do wonders for HP? One bad move might just make him fade away without even establishing a strong name and lasting presence in the business. Of course, HP could learn a thing or two from RA about being pleasant and amiable. But unfortunately, his pretty face just doesn't gel with the negative publicities that have been hounding him lately.

The Calculated Behavior of the Dramatic Actress

Dramatic actress (DA) invited her friends from the networks she has worked with for dinner at her home. DA exerted effort by preparing good food and coming up with a fab set-up. The matching silverware and table setting impressed her guests, and they sincerely enjoyed dinner.
Her guests thought that DA must be humbling herself after all the controversies that hounded her professional and personal life. Sometime ago, DA was caught on video crying her heart out over a failed transaction. That episode affected her so bad that even her performance at work suffered. Her colleagues called her unprofessional, causing the abrupt ending of her teleserye. Her most recent controversy had reached the courts, earning her a sarcastic title, and a new set of influential enemies. These incidents only strengthened the resolve of her former network not to renew her contract anymore. Amidst all these misfortunes, her resilient husband stood by her side and kept their family together.
Going back to her dinner, her friends were amazed at DA's graciousness, until they were invited to a room. To their surprise, her bags and shoes were lined up for their picking. DA then asked them to choose what they liked. Of course, her friends could not refuse as they were all captured into that awkward spot. The prices of her used merchandise were not cheap, and were almost the same as the prices of brand new items. As her friends chose their items, DA was considerate enough to accept cheques for payment for those who did not have enough cash on hand. However, no post-dated cheques were accepted.
On the one hand, did the guests give in to her “garage sale” out of embarrassment? Or was it out of sympathy over the fact that no matter what DA does, she still cannot get out of the rut she has placed herself in?

The huge premium bestowed on good looks has made the business of beauty and wellness a multi-billion dollar worldwide phenomenon.
A few decades ago, cosmetic enhancement was considered as a taboo subject, a tightly-guarded secret of movie stars and wealthy socialites. But several years back, people have become more open and accepting toward cosmetic enhancement, and even your average John and Jane have candidly admitted undergoing procedures. Today, it seems that there is a solution for almost every conceivable skin or figure flaw.
Some teens go through it mostly for health reasons, while others, prefer it just like how it is for the older patients - wanting to enhance their self-esteem. A teenage girl with an extremely big nose who is called Pinocchio and is a butt of jokes in school and a double-D breasted 16-year old who finds it hard to exercise or even walk are usual candidates for the procedure. But other than these, it maybe ill-advised. The thing is to make sure that the teen is emotionally and physically mature enough to undergo the chosen procedure.
On the local front, the Philippines is likewise far from being left behind in terms of technical advancements and modern facilities available. Such that more privileged Filipinos are also into cosmetic enhancements, young and old alike.
Today’s youth are a lot bolder and more adventurous in many ways especially in matters that concern their appearance. And lately, more and more of these come from the movie industry. Nowhere in the years before would you hear of any showbiz star as young as 18 go through these procedures in the hope of clinching more projects and endorsements, gain more fans and acceptability.
Apparently, their own management and/or network tolerate them, and if rumors are to be believed, even encourage them to have these procedures. The gullibility and excitement of these stars to have a brand-new look is really disturbing. But that excitement is nowhere to be found when they are pressed for answers to procedures done on them.
Take these three major female stars of a major network. These stars allegedly patronize the services of a doctor for their cosmetic concerns. This low-profile surgeon is not as popular and prominent as other celebrity doctors.
Star A is confirmed to have had series of operations from her nose, cheeks, breast and had a fold in her eyes to make it look big and dramatic. Sources say she had that boob job for the sake of an ex-boyfriend thinking she could win him back. But sad to say, it was too late since handsome ex-bf was already seeing other women outside of showbiz.
Star B had her nose slightly fixed to add bridge and narrow edges and had taken skin whiteners, too. Her last and also her major enhancement was when she had her breasts done. The change is so obvious and she continues to flaunt them by wearing outfits that show off her new assets.
Star C had one too many reconstructions on her body that it has already become a habit. Like some sort of an addiction - breast, eyes, cheeks, chin, teeth, liposuction, overdose of glutathione, lips. Her latest and the most controversial is that one on her nose which had undergone more than one procedure that it has already gone "haywire," so to speak. Her nose has become too long and thin that it has already altered her face.
All stars from A to C have another one thing in common 'though. For all the very obvious alterations they have done on their bodies and faces, no one, as in NO ONE had dared owned up to them. In short and in truth, all three are in denial!
Star A says she doesn't believe in cosmetic surgery. She once said, " Real beauty is not just about physical. For me, if you're a kind person, you become beautiful. If you believe you're beautiful, then you don't have to change anything." Her defender even said that Star A's boobs appear that way because she's wearing wired brassiere that lifts and makes her breasts look bigger and better. But people contend that for such a skinny person to have that sudden big bulk infront of her is clearly baloney, you think?
Star B who is often bashed for her negative attitude towards her fans and co-stars alike is also into the denial habit. She who is ever so vain and conscious of her looks and image had repeatedly denied undergoing all the rumored procedures on her body. Like Star A, she was into every inconceivable cover-ups to justify everything she wants hidden. Once she was quoted saying that the type of brassieres she was wearing could be the reason why her breasts look bigger. Oh well, just how original can that be?
But Star C who tops them all with her unlimited enhancements doesn't confirm nor deny she ever had them. Even her long-time boyfriend was non-commital when pressed for answers. Perhaps she may be thinking of that most-abused cliche, "What you see is what you get." To which her critics would retort back, " Oh yeah right, you are not Pinocchio for nothing, eh?"
Just what makes these stars and others like them to have the gall to deny everything that is so downright obvious is beyond their fans and the viewing public. Cosmetic enhancement had long been accepted as an option especially in the entertainment industry. And it is exactly for this reason why they do it in the first place. Then why deny? Are they into delusions that they can fool the public into believing everything they say, hook, line and sinker? True, they are entitled to some privacy, but anyone who wants the public's attention must accept public scrutiny of their actions. After all, we didn't ask them into our lives --- for fame and monetary gain, they came voluntarily and impose themselves on us.

Bad-mannered Comedian

The comedienne (TC) has always been known to be a competent performer. TC was so good that she even left her group to embark on a solo career, which turned out to be a very good decision. TC, other than being funny, is also a good singer and a convincing actress as well. Her antics have gained her sizable followers and her name often brings in crowds in her shows.
Sadly, her joyful on-cam persona does not jibe with her off-cam disposition. While overseas, TC was seen at a famous square at the East Coast. The Filipino immigrant who saw her politely approached TC and requested if she could have a photo with her. Instead of accommodating the request, TC behaved like a native of that city. She frowned at the "kababayan" and acted like as if nothing happened. TC was snobbish and proud and even her Kabuki-like make up could not hide her rude behavior. Perhaps, TC has every right to keep her privacy while off stage, but being gracious is still a virtue that fans expect from celebrities especially if they come for a visit. Indeed, the not-so-pleasant side of some these performers are revealed when they are no longer infront of the camera. What a big let-down.
