You Cannot Change Her Mind
When one wants to be real, one must be consistent in his/her stand as well as not mind criticism. If one could dish it, then he/she should be able to accept the consequences of actions or words. However, what might be deemed as hardheadedness might actually indicate the firmness of one’s stand on an issue.
After signing up with a major network, Late Bloomer (LB) was assigned to take over the schedule of Network Talent (NT). LB realized that this opportunity would, so far, be the biggest break of her career, and she would not let it pass. Before saying “yes,” LB knew the challenges that she would face.
As LB struggled to make sure NT was not missed, the rating game was not kind. The show of LB, although gaining interest, hardly made impact on viewing habits of the local audience. Even with new faces, the show could not pull the desirable audience share. When the management noticed the trend, strategies had to be planned.
Meanwhile, a good source of what viewers want to see is reflected in their feedback. Today, local radio and TV show often ask the audience to participate by sending online messages for suggestions. After reviewing the common factor, the results of viewer suggestions were not at all shocking. The viewers wanted to see Beautiful Tandem (BT) and Daring Couple (DC) on the show.
Seeing LB interview either BT or DC would definitely raise the ratings, as their fandoms are very active in making guestings trend in social media. Naturally, the idea of guesting BT and DC reached LB. An insider told LB that airing interviews with either BT or DC could solve their ratings problems. However, unlike others who would prioritize a win-win strategy, LB refused. Thinking over the idea made LB realize she would be very uncomfortable in conducting potential interviews with BT and DC. There would be too much competition going on, and she, knowing herself, would not be neutral. Of course, even if she tried to be professional, her affinity with Another Couple (AC) would take over. Of course, LB would be very conscious in making sure that AC would shine above BT or DC. The flow would be very awkward, which LB allegedly reasoned out. Hence, the production team had no choice, as LB was not budging on her stand, which was “No!” to the guesting of BT or DC in her show.

Movie Review: Working Beks

The movie is about five gay men from different backgrounds whose lives are peppered with struggles as they face the world trying to survive and make each day count.
Champ Reyno (Edgar Allan Guzman) is an actor who gets involved in a viral sex video that scandalized his career and family. Gorgeous (John Lapuz) is an over the top family breadwinner, who deprives himself and only lives to provide for his huge family.
Tommy (TJ Trinidad) is a marketing executive who experiences gender discrimination at work and is sidelined for promotion. Jet (Prince Stefan) is a call center agent with active sex life with multiple partners, becomes so paranoid he could have contacted the deadly HIV.
Mandy (Joey Paras) tries with all his might to counter his gay tendencies a few hours into his wedding.
The conflicts shown in ’ Working Beks’ are real and matter-of-course. Issues like discrimination in and out of the workplace, as well as HIV issues are every gay’s major predicament. The movie tries to address these issues but stops - leaving everything hanging.
As expected, humor is there, spread in each of the character’s episodes but the treatment of the core issues falls short to have an agreeable finish. Everything appears to be a smorgasbord, offering a variety of stories that never develop and conclude.
If at all, the only one that stands out is that of Champ Reyno’s character whose story truly depicts how harsh it is to be a closet gay in the midst of a cruel and pretentious world he is in. Bela Padilla’s acting nails it, as expected. On the other hand, Mandy’s story is overstretched, yet still fails to engage the viewer why he does what he does, to get into a marriage with a partner very willing to love him hook, line and sinker.
Acting-wise, TJ Trinidad levels up as a family loving and career-driven gay executive. But his story would have been more appreciated had the circumstances in his non-traditional family been allowed to unfold. Throughout his story, the viewer eagerly waits for that one reveal – but nada. As such, the acting effort and the inspiration all went for naught.
Same goes for Gorgeous and Jet whose narratives would have impacted big if only. Gorgeous’ quiet demeanor in her daily struggle is quite intriguing, yet it is not given proper perspective. Jet’s great fear of HIV and coming out with secret lover Champ would have added a very good flavor, but sadly.
All told, what goes on in the minds of every viewer after watching the film are questions that need answers to their whys’, what’s, who’s. Indeed, the half baked film fails to grow on you and not allowed to conclude beautifully making the experience half, if not truly wanting.

A Bad Trip Moment
By contrast, things moved after puberty for PC, who was slowly exposed to the primetime audience via supporting roles. When a major star had to lie low, SN saw the potential of PC and soon, she found herself topping the list of talents for big projects. SN was right because PC was the next gold mine. After several hit projects, PC’s name was at par with VA.
While peaceful co-existence dominated their relationship, as SN did not position VA and PC as competitors, things seemed different in the real world because of Confusing Thespian (CT). Sometime ago, CT and VA were the toast of the town. Two seemingly different personalities found love amidst the craziness of the business, and their fans loved seeing them together. However, things did not work out, and soon, both were left in the cold.
Nonetheless, CT is not one who will remain still. While their breakup story was still very warm, the next stories were already about him hooking up with PC. Fans reacted differently. Some bashed PC and she was called names, as sympathy seemed to gear towards VA. However, other fans were supportive of CT and PC. Then, just like that, PC was seen dating Another Talent (AT).
In one gathering, PC sat with AT, and both were enjoying the night. In the nearby table sat VA. Both were civil. Then, CT walked in, approached the table of PC, and made small talk with her and AT. They were smiling and exchanging pleasantries, all within the line of sight of VA. After sometime, CT walked away and did not even make any gesture to go near were VA was seated. This snub made VA furious and prompting her to comment that she was getting bad vibes in a voice that was loud enough to be heard at the next table, but soft enough not to make any scene. With that spewed out, VA and her friends left and found another table far from PC. People who saw the incident concluded that all might not be well between VA and PC after all.
