Brewing Trouble Behind The Show

Image courtesy of Fashion PULIS reader

When the variety show needed a change after its original director left, the network decided to have two directors handle the show. The system was implemented such that Directors A and B would alternately take charge of the show every other week. After all, two heads were thought to be better for the show.

Unfortunately, demoralization among the production is brewing after they found out the negative comments of some followers of Director B in his alleged site. In the fansite of Director B, criticisms regarding the work of Director A persist, and some are even demanding for the resignation of Director A.

Sadly, the bullying tactics of the followers of Director B are affecting the morale of some production people. They feel that instead of discouraging such comments, Director B, as the alleged owner of the said page, is actually letting his fans dish off the criticisms. Some comments paint hatred it when Director A earns praises for a job well done.

The consequence is that the show's episodes handled by each director have turned into an unhealthy contest between them.  Of course, the loser in the said “competition” is the production team who has been working hard for both directors. After all, the team only has the welfare of the show in mind regardless who directed which. Some are losing enthusiasm when it comes to Director B as most are sympathetic to Director A.

Instead of being inspired to do their work, most get discouraged from all the negativities that permeate the air.  If the internal matters cannot be resolved, then the show might really just fall far behind the real competition, i.e., the show on the rival channel. They better do their homework quick before the rival eats them whole. As it is, the shows' episodes of late leave a lot to be desired.

Is it Time to Say Goodbye?

Looks like the start of the year has become an axing season for this network. Apart from a weekly show that already went off air, one is on the chopping board anytime soon, there is another show AS in the line up that might bid adieu soon.

People will be shocked for sure as AS’s forthcoming fate is not at all being felt even within AS's production team. Yet major players and insiders have expressed same sentiments – that the show is seriously being considered to be removed from airing.

To be fair, AS has been enjoying good ratings. The sad fact according to insiders is that AS is rather difficult to mount and can be really financially draining. Simply put, advertising income can hardly meet the costs of production. Now network heads are meeting up for a replacement soon. Suggested stars are buddies who have recently bonded in a hit project.

The show has survived many controversies, yet it stood tall and AS’ stars to this day stand united with each other. To the credit of the show’s production team, controversies in the past within AS were immediately ironed out so as not to jeopardize the show’s content. But as they say it over and over again, in showbiz, you’re only as good as your last performance. Nothing is ever permanent!

Reaching the Show's Boundary

Earlier this week, Fashion Pulis gave the scoop on the cancellation of two shows. Then, the announcement suddenly came that Sarah G. Live! will air its final episode tonight. What could be the other show (OS)?

When OS first aired, it changed the weekly viewing habit of the audience because of its innovative  way of presenting the topics. In such a short time, OS became a regular Sunday routine of the network's loyal followers.

As years passed, OS evolved to meet the demand of the times and the competition. Of course, the "constant changing of the guards" aka changing of mainstays added more interest to OS. Moreover, the reasons why they leave the show were as interesting as the other features. Then, the production was  successful in stirring the interest of the audience in introducing new talents for the show.

The cancellation of OS will definitely cause a stir among the viewers, and probably, even that of the competition's. It might even come as a surprise to its talents, who have yet to learn of this last major move of their network. However, these talents should not feel bad as after a show gets cancelled, who knows if there's something new for them from their network? If not, that is just what showbiz, and life is in general: Nothing is permanent, except change.

So, what show will replace OS? Let’s just say, the original is coming back to re-establish their reign on that timeslot.

Additional Condiment in the Bag

Some press people visited the location of an audition of a reality contest of a network. The production people entertained the press and offered them food and drinks. Specifically, the press people were given popcorn and drinks. The press enjoyed the treats.

After munching a lot of the snack, one of the reporters shook the bag of popcorn. When the reporter opened the bag, a dead cockroach surfaced amidst the kernels. All the while, the reporter was enjoying the bag of infested popcorn. After the incident, the reporter started to vomit, felt discomfort, and suffered from a bad tummy.

Whether the physical effects were triggered by the psychological suggestion, we will not know. The only thing for sure is that the reporter will be extra careful whenever snacks will be offered by any network. Of course, this incident is not a good way to start the publicity of the latest and grandest brainchild of the newly hired bigwigs of the network.

Another Cancellation?

From offering huge paychecks and pirating talents from the entertainment and news departments, to coming up with reinvented shows, those are the issues that continue to hound this network. When the alleged amounts of contracts started to leak out, people wondered how the new network could pay up and remain liquid in times of the country’s not so good economic standing. Part of the doubt had something to do with the fortified measures taken by the other two networks as well. Network A firmed up its dominance of primetime by coming up with no nonsense stories in their original teleseryes. Network B beefed up its daytime and news programming. The new network, although having the staff and the talents, could not really get close to the two networks. In fairness to the station, some of its shows have better concepts than some shows of the other networks. Still, advertisers, other than the homegrown consumer goods, were not enough. (Could it have something to do with its free yet bad TV signal, which has limited its viewership?).

Consequently, rumors of axing shows oozed from the network. Quickly, the network and its talents, who were allegedly bound to be affected, allayed fears and insisted no such moves would happen. Then, controversies came up that eventually led to suspensions and resignations. The reaction to the axing issues generated interest but it was not sustained. Lately, another issue has leaked out. Allegedly, the public affairs department of the station is due to be shut down. Gone were those days when the network was generous with the staff, as they are now feeling the scrimping and cost-cutting here and there. Some were heard to have regretted leaving their former network. Nonetheless, this alleged shut down could also be a way to strengthen the network’s other station (where its top-rating show that probes on legal issues was transferred last month). It was done so that the flagship network can concentrate on its entertainment programming. All told, are these things all forthcoming or will the network,as in the past, issue a quick denial again?

Circumvent the Aerobics

While it seems its first season finished without much trouble, a controversy is brewing in the rumor mill. As the contestants did their crunches and curbed their cravings, another competition was happening right in front of them. It was the contest of who was the better motivator of the teams. Of course, the team that won the challenges showed that it had the superior trainer. Reestablishing one as an effective fitness trainer can earn more than expected. Endorsements will increase and so will clients.

One of the trainers did not take this competition lightly and gave a lot of diva attitude for the win. The contestants felt it but they has no choice but to follow and live with the harsh training and tough stance shown to them by the trainer. As viewers wondered how fast weight was lost in a short time, allegations are floating that medicines were used in the contest.

Did the trainer have a hand in this? If the trainer indeed knew about this, why was there no objection? Is this how far one would go just to rebuild one’s image as a fitness guru?
