Himala of Nora Aunor premiered at the 1982 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it won Best Film and Best Actress for Aunor, among other awards. At the Metro Manila Film Festival, the film swept nine of the eleven awards available.
Nora Aunor Himala became a sleeper hit, earning ₱30 million, becoming one of the highest grossing Filipino films in the 1980s. The film premiered at the 1982 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it swept the festival awards, including Best Picture, as well as Best Actress for Nora Aunor.
Himala became the first Filipino film to be included in the Competition section of the Berlin International Film Festival. In 2012, on its 30th anniversary, Himala became the first film to be restored as part of the ABS-CBN Film Restoration Project, with a premiere at the 69th Venice International Film Festival as part of the Venice Classics section.
Already getting rave reviews on its initial release, Himala is still widely considered today as one of the greatest Filipino films of all time. Nora Aunor garnered worldwide popularity and is best known for her performance in the film as the purported seer and healer Elsa. Her portrayal is considered by most Filipino critics as one of the best of her career. On November 11, 2008, Himala won the Viewer's Choice Award for the Best Film of All Time from the Asia-Pacific Region in the 2008 CNN Asia Pacific Screen Awards beating nine other films voted by thousands of film fans around the world. The ten finalists were chosen by critics, industry insiders and actors.
11:48 Himala was filmed entirely in the Philippine province of Ilocos Norte for two months with a budget of ₱3 million (If adjusted by Inflation the film total cost of today's money is ₱43,031,949). For the final scene in Suba Beach, the 3,000 extras were called to participate which was done in just one take. Himala became a box-office hit, earning an impressive ₱30 million (If adjusted by Inflation is ₱474,298,146.37) becoming one of the highest grossing Filipino films in the 80s.
NOTE: The peso in 1982 is now worth ₱15.81 or approximately 1,481.00 % increase in the value of products or services after nearly 40 years.
Then why approve it for MMFF? I agree all films approved for screening on this period should be given equal number of cinemas. Then if may gusto manood pero wala na availablr then after the festival kasi kung may demand, it should be extended.
Ghurl it's a different take on the original classic.
sana may manood, pinoys wants to have fun w/ family when they ate out on holidays kaya mabenta ang comedy, horror and romcom.heavy drama and action medyo mahina yan
Checking on the comments here, very obvious na hindi talaga ready ang pinoy for quality and de calibreng films. Regardless if it’s being shown during christmas season or not.
I’ll watch it Direk.

ReplyDeleteSuper true!
Aminin.
ReplyDeleteYung Himala ni Nora Aunor sa MMFF din yun pero kumita yun at nanalo ng mga award because of Nora Aunor. Best Actress si Nora dun.

11:48, 30 million pesos noong 1982 was a lot.
DeleteNot 10:45
1148 Nora's Himala was in the 80s. Consider inflation. 30 million in the 80s is around 300 million ngayon. Esep esep din.

Deletefilm festival means it's for competition. ang alam mo lang yata na pelikula eh pang chuwariwap.

ReplyDeleteLeave the classics alone kasi. If it aint broke dont fix it.
ReplyDeleteGhurl it's a different take on the original classic.
DeleteObviously wala kang ka alam alam what this movie was about. May maikuda lang
DeleteAkala yata ni 1031pm na its a straightforward remake kasi same title at same plot haha. Baka wala siyang idea sa musical version
