@mwrob this video is from 3 weeks ago lol but I was just so confused as to why she said that π maybe I’m privileged to have never been picked on for being filipino.. I grew up in saudi with people from all over the globe and when I was in Germany, I was the only Asian in my class. Most people in my school had never heard of the Philippines but I would be so proud to educate them. Maybe I was lucky that my classmates were actually pretty curious and open to learning. I grew up loving and embracing my Filipino culture thanks to my Mom. My sisters and I up to this day get so excited to hear of someone else’s Filipino background because of our Pinoy pride π€ I hope more Filipinos abroad get to heal from their trauma, learn to embrace our beautiful culture and hopefully teach their children as well #proud #filipino ♬ original sound - Maureen Wrob

Self hate at its finest….
ReplyDeleteVanessa's mom is very Filipino. Baka naman yun great grandfather niya kakilala si Figafetta.
DeleteLol. Baka Meron yan wag kang nega agad.
Mas maraming Chineae lineage kesa Spanish, look it up!
Filipinos were required to change their last name for the sake of census and it's also a way for colonizers to rob Filipinos of their own culture and identity.
Delete2:18 Contrary to popular belief, hindi po marami ang Spanish-Filipino offsprings noong araw dahil in the first place, di ganun karami ang Spaniards dito satin.
DeleteMy grandmother has spanish blood pero makita mo sa mga anak nya (my mother and her sisters) meztiza lols. Nanay ni vanessa very pinoy
Delete0218 No need to tell me. Tisay ako but I tell people na Pilipina ako period even when they insist I don’t look like one. It doesn’t matter kung may lahi kang Spanish. If you were born and raised in the Philippines, you are Filipino.
Delete- 1113
I agree, it has to start at a young age. My siblings make sure my pamangkins know and learn about their Filipino heritage. Lalo sa mundo ngayon, being diverse should be cool.
DeleteDad niya π― did but born and raised sa dito sa California.
DeleteHaha!
Tested ππΌππΌ #ProudToBePinoy
ReplyDeleteHindi lahat, just like any other culture na iba-iba ang tao.
DeleteTheres positive and negative sa pinas or being pilipino. Wag tayong toxic positive and blind sa mga negatives gurl
DeleteI check the photos of her mom sorry she doesn't look like may spanish blood, Spanish blooded i know mga mestizas ang itsura
DeleteBaka Mexican... from Mexico, Pampanga!!!
DeleteHahahaha spanish sardine. Pwede π€ͺ
Deletemerun namang morena pero yung nanay nya is not morena type na pdeng latina noh
Hahaha
ReplyDeleteAlam mo naman ang mga hypocrite!
ReplyDeleteKakatuwa din yung mga classmates niya na they're open for learning.
ReplyDeleteKung ideny nya so what? Kawalan ba ng pinas yan? Wala namang ambag yan.
DeleteEnrique Iglesias is proud to be Filipino because of her mom and he doesn’t even look Filipino.
Delete12:41 even if they look Caucasians, Isabel Preysler was born here.
DeleteHindi naman siya sikat.
DeleteIt's okay if she's not proud being a Filipino but blatantly lying about your roots is not good at all.
DeleteYeah, though isabel is alta din kasi and really, could pass as a spanish lady.
DeleteThe family of Isabel Preysler, both sides, are Spanish born and raised here in the Philippines. She is usually referred as the Philippine born Spanish in several articles in Spain.
DeleteMarian was born in Spain and she is half Spanish. It is a pity that she doesn't speak Spanish fluently.
Nope 4:27. There's a paper about her - "The (Sexist and Racist) Image of Isabel Preysler in the Spanish Media Coverage of Her Romantic Relationships". If you read Spanish articles, Isabel Preysler is well known in Spain as an Asian/Oriental. She's known for being mestiza here in the PH, but not in Spain.
Delete1:42 That’s what I said, they consider themselves to be Filipino kahit mas mukha pa silang Spanish compared to this Shay Mitchell.
DeleteMaureen is proud to be Filipino but refused to speak Tagalog kahit more than 5yrs ng nakatira sa Pinas!
ReplyDeleteMy parents are Visayan but I grew up in Manila kaya I find it very difficult to form a sentence in Ilonggo.
DeleteI can understand why some Pinoys who grew up abroad cannot speak Filipino.
Delete12:59 well, lets be real here girl. They even force their children na magsalita ng english. Maiintindihan ko pa ang argument mo if shes an actress but shes not. Inis n kasi ako sa mga character n "balik bayan" or "laking states side".
DeleteI am Cebuana and hirap ako magsalita ng Tagalog.
Delete12:20 she tried to be an actress may movie sya last yr yung Banaue at contract star si Mau ng Star magic pero na OP dahil ayaw nya matuto magtagalog
Delete2:31 ohhh never know that.
DeleteDepende kung gusto talaga matuto and nagsasanay. I had a friend in med school na Fil Am pero looks more American than Filipino tas nung nag start mag med school hindi marunong mag Tagalog. She tried hard to learn the language and when we reached 4th year, fluent na sya and nagugulat patients and even speak behind her back in Filipino tas pag nag converse, tameme na at napahiya na sila kasi may mukhang foreigner na nakakaintindi pala sa kanila. I have cousing too in the US na hindi pa nakakatapak sa Pilipinas but fluent sa Tagalog kasi tinuruan at sinanay ng ibang relatives.
Sino ba kasi sya para I- own pa natin.
ReplyDeleteFull blooded pinay mama niya.
DeleteGirl you can be proud to be Filipino and not be able to speak Filipino.
ReplyDeleteCorrect! Si Marian ay 50% talaga!!
DeleteSelf check din Mau, loud and proud Pinay ka but you never love our language kaya walang gustng kumuha sa yo as an actress kahit nagsign up ka sa Star magic kaya lumayas ng US at nagjowa ng model sa LA
ReplyDeleteAko nga I'm half Spanish who grew up sa ibang ASEAN country. I look 90% Spanish 10% Filipino but I am always proud of my small nose I got from my Pangasinense lolo.π I always make sure that part of me is known because I love my Filipino grandparents so much. I'm actually in the Philippines for a long vacation, been discovering a lot of yummy dishes and snacks! I will take home a lot of pasalubong for my fam and myself.π€£
ReplyDeleteI know Shay had a bad experience growing up, but she also did an interview saying she's finally fine okay with it and talking about her Filipina mom. Turning 360° about it, she's delusional.
Yup, there was an interview about it. Tapos biglang kabig si ateng. Hahaha.
DeleteHi! Girl ka ba or boy? π
DeleteShe has always looked black to me not part Filipino.
ReplyDeleteKay phoebe cates tayo nasa wiki niya may dugong pinoy siya
ReplyDeleteWow really
DeleteHaven’t seen her mom..maybe she is Spanish? Lol
DeletePurong pinoy mama niya.
Sabi niya Lea always acknowledged them during shows and gave them backstage access parang ganon.
Deletei get her din in that i used to get asked what i was and when i said filipino, people used to say i didnt look filipino. theyd say i looked oriental because oriental descent or blood ako but i didnt identify as oriental because i couldnt speak a word of chinese halos. so one time someone asked me if i were filipino. i said yes. then naisip ko ay baka ibig sabihin descent, so i said no. then i said i dont know bec gulong gulo talaga ako. at the time i didnt think to say Filipino -Chinese kasi nga yung pagka-Chinese ko is hilaw. di nakakarelate mga tao who only have 1 identity. ang hirap lang ipaliwanag sa lahat yung background mo because they're asking for a 5 second answer but your heritage is much more complex than 5 seconds.
DeleteGirl, di ka kagandahan. Wag mong ginaganyan face mo, kakatakot.
ReplyDeleteYaan na yun. Kawalan ba nating mga Pinoy yung artista? Lols
ReplyDeleteSiguro matindi talaga ang maging childhood trauma nitong si Shame Mitchell coz of her ethnicity…
ReplyDeleteI’ll just give another perspective. M and S despite both being half had different backgrounds and environment. M is not that beautiful physically so less discrimination ang na experience nya. I’m not saying S is right but maybe her experiences growing up made her ashamed of being part Filipino. What if sa area where she grew up in nakaka hiya yung ugali ng Filipino? Or what if during the time of the interview she was surrounded by Filipinos na unsavory yung ugali kaya she didn’t want to be identified as one of them?
ReplyDeleteNahihiya sya dahil madaming caregiver sa Canada at ayaw nya isipin na nanny mom nya.
Deleteoh love this perspective. thanks. makes sense.
Deletesaka di si shay lumaki dito. dito pa lang daming pinoy na di nagfilipino di nagidentify as pinoy tumitingin kayo kay shay who lived and grew up mostly in canada.
so i've only heard about this shay mitchell because of these issues, in other words DI SIKAT. 2nd i checked photos of the mom, doesn't look spanish to me. nagkakapampangan pa daw. if she doesn't want to be associated with Filipinos, we don't want her either. pwe
ReplyDeleteCorrect!
How can you claim to be related to Lea yet pretend to not be Pinoy π€¦♀️
DeletePlease understand Shay is trying to break into Hollywood and if youre typecast into a specific ethnicity mahirap na. Mas maraming Spanish roles kesa Asian roles. Sana maintindihan niyo din siya. She's still trying to find her place kasi.
ReplyDeleteDear diversity era ngayon sa hollywood advantage nowadays ang mga asians and black people ang daming tv shows and movies featuring different ethnicity
Deleteuhhh ok. if you say so, clearly shay feels differently and she's the one who probably has better knowledge since oh i dont know, she has been working for years now trying to find work. obvious naman there are more roles for hispanic over filipino asian. sa bridgerton nga magkaka-east asian (oriental), may indian may itim, may bi (benedict) , may gay (fran and michaela), pero walang pinoy. lets just admit mas madaming ibang need to be represented. was hoping so bad si liza man lang makasama pero wala eh, maski anong hope mo. till now yung crazy rich asian 2 di nga natuloy. sa tingin mo kung pinay siya and it would get her roles, she would not declare it? i dont judge her kasi mahirap mamuhay sa ganong mundo nila. pinay pa din naman siya she deserves support. masakit man sa atin o hindi. yung toxicity ng kababayan and bashers now will just push her further away from her filipino-ness. and maybe she feels shes spanish because pinoys naman talaga have lots of spanish influences and she probably doesnt know pinoy but maybe speaks some spanish. anyway di ako nakikipagaway. wala naman tayong makukuha dito ako lang lets just try to be supportive bec she is a human being. wala naman siyang nagawang masama sa atin mismo personally. wala siyang away sa atin.
Delete3:11, marunong ba sya mag Spanish if yun Ang binabalandra niya?
Deletetrying to break eh tagal ng artista nyan haha
DeleteNoong araw many Fil-Ams would hide their Filipino-ness kasi ang hirap i explain when most Americans have never heard of the Philippines. When my dad was little he went to international school at akala ng classmates niya Chinese siya. Even if he tries to correct them that he is a Filipino, hindi nila ma gets kung ano yon kaya napapahiya lang siya.
ReplyDeleteThings are different now. There's no more excuse dahil world renowned na ngayon ang Pilipinas thanks to Pacquiao, Jollibee, etc. So why bother lying?
DeleteKung tun gusto nya do be it. I will do I will choose to be a Japanese
ReplyDeleteKids like Maureen are proud because they were taught from a young age by their parents to be proud of their roots and heritage. They grew up embracing the culture. It all boils down on how the kids are raised. Shay’s mother obviously didn’t teach her this or her raise her this way. Maybe her mother is embarrassed of her being Filipino herself.
ReplyDeleteWhy are we even talking about Shae? Let's forget those who forget they are Filipino yeah?
ReplyDeletenever a good look to add to the negative chatter when you're a celebrity.
ReplyDeletebuti pa si Manny Jacinto proud sya sa roots nya as a Filipino.
Naalala ko tuloy si Kirk Hammett, "I am Filipino and Filipinos love to eat goat."
