i have to agree (even during the mmff, the only reason this festival earns money is bcoz its the holidays and people are willing to waste time and money peeo if its a relugar day people will still choose what's showing in hollywood over a local movie), sobrang predictable at boring ng mga plot ng local movies. i hope magkaroon tayo ng production outfit like A24 na willing gumawa ng quality movies outside the usual formula na nakasanayan na ng local movie industry.
I would understand pa if sinabing films in general. With Netflix kasi this is whats going on na talaga. Oh well.
I watch local and international, dami din pangit na international films lalo na from hollywood, considering film is US main export.
May mga local actors/movies na dapat nga di na pinapanood kasi we know pangit. Pero siempre it is worth giving a chance naman to others.
Makapangit ka naman? Napanood mo ba yung Gomburza and Firefly? And iba pang Filipino movies recently na maganda.
6:42am ako napanuod ko yang 2 sa sinehan mismo last year and i agree with 11:25pm, compared sa mga kasabayan nila stand out talaga ang firefly.. yung sa gomburza, it was boring to me dahil na rin siguro alam ko na ang story because from elementary to hs to fil101 laman ng history books ang kwento ng life nila even mallari was a huge letdown, dahil akala ko historical and factual ang story tapos sa dulo fantasy pala. yung mga movie na available na ngayon through streaming, very predictable ang storyline, though i enjoyed becky and baddette. also, just cause hindi naka-align sa pov mo ang opinion ng iba eh you have to call them names, provide points and give example to your arguments on why local movies do mot s*cka** hindi yung para kang bata na nagttantrums dahil di nasunod ang gusto. ciao!
When it was available on Netclix, I tried watching it pero mga 1/4 lang kinaya ko. It's very predictable at may similarity sa isang foreign film na napanuod ko. Filipino films has not yet evolved.
🙄 Blame loveteams pa more, when that’s not even the issue kung bakit walang nanonood.
Even hollywood films.
1223 ako din di ko tinapos. Yun lang ganda kasi kapag wait na lang sa streaming platform, less waste sa money and time kapag di mo nagustuhan okay lang di na tapusin kesa mag sinehan pa dami gastos and nakakahiya lumabas.
@12:23 I watched it on Netflix and was really disappointed as well. It’s a supposedly a movie pero para talaga lenten season program. So sorry to the fans. But the truth shall set you free.

Respect people's choices din.
i kind of agree with janella on this issue at di me ate chona miii... i just dont want to tolerate or support movies with rehashed plots kadalasan kasi kapag nanuod ako ng ph movie lalo na ngayon may narerecall akong international movie with the same plotline unlike nung mga old movies natin by brocka/bernal.
Wag in-denial dear.
Let’s face it. Kaya nga most Filipinos (like me) prefer to watch KDramas because of the quality of their films e.

IMO Star Cinema and the Kapamilya network kinda killed the movie industry. Their stars almost could not work with other movie outfits. Since the 90s, they churn out the same formulaic movie one after the other. Tapos same directors, same writers. Parang pabrika lang ang approach sa films. Lacking in artistry. Puro love team movies and comedies mostly. Sadly, they did not want to invest in other kinds of movies. Look at Thai cinema. They come up with 10 movies a year pero ang budget, triple the budget ng Pinoy movies. They really invest in their movies. Quality over quantity.
quite the contratry, SC actually revived the local movie scene. i remember during the 90s juskoday ang mga sinehan panay "bomba and "ST" ph films ang palabas from viva, regal and seiko. the problem now is, yung mga bagong producers are trying to copy what SC have done successfully over the past few years hence why we are now stuck sa overused, nakakadiring LT formula ng mga movie.
Wala naman bago, but just because malaki fanbase, ayun pinipilit.
Huli teleserye napanood ko ata, on the wings of love pa. That was the time na addict pa ako sa Jadine Hangang na expired na ako maging fan. Last movie ko sa sinehan na Pinoy film is hello love goodbye 🥲. Sorry na yan ang Totoo… siempre yung Iba sa Netflix na pero selected lang I watched it kasi hype siya or pinag uusapan.
ako din hlg last movie na pinanood ko in an actual movie house. yung mga bagong addition sa netflix from the previous mmff, tried wtching them at napakaboring wala pa ako sa half, give up na ako sayang nga sa oras at buti na lang di ako nagpadala sa hype nung xmas.
She always reply in a suplada way that is why she gets attack even if she tells the truth. Local films are sometimes made with "quality and creative approach" but mostly it's for the common filipino family standards that is to entertain and divert from the issue or poverty. Personally, I don't pay for Vice movie but I can watch it in Netflix or Iwantfc for some laughs. MMFF is the time for the poorest of the poorest to get some cash to use to watch a movie as a Christmas gift.
i prefer nonlocal films but nanonood nmn ako pag type ko or intrigued ako, kasi may mga ok din nmn like i recently watched deleter, then a very good girl, also in my mother's skin, and ndi nmn ako nadisappoint. Nag enjoy din ako sa 10 mistresses, tapos i tried to watch becky and badette but ndi ko kinaya ung 1st musical number nila kaya inoff ko lol. Depende na lng talaga yan sa taste ng tao but they need not disrespect other people's choice. To each his own kumbaga
1:44 that's the right attitude I think. Dont be closeminded and say na basta local film pangit agad.
Lolll it does not look like the commenter intended to be sophisticated. Wala lang sya talagang panahon at oras… mas si janella yung may tone and intended to be sophisticated, arrogant and condescending. IMO.
As if Janella. I cant blame him. Pati storyline same same lang
Mahilig ako manood noon ng local films.. pero nagdegrade talaga in recent years, so formulaic and predictable, with cringey dialogues and pinagtagpi tagpi editing… may mga maganda panrin naman pero mangilan ngilan na lang talaga… ung nagustuhan ko lately na not so mainstream bar boys, ellenya l… yung with famous actors naman, on the job and the gifted with anne and cristine…pero this one di masyado kumita or umingay unlike their first one na about kabitan…
To be frank naman kasi, the quality of local movie is really so-so. Yung ibang movie makers, as long as merong big emotional outburst, feeling nila Oscar worthy na. But that’s not the case.
She can sing but she's not exceptional. There are others who are way talented than her. She can act but she's not remarkable. Look what happened to Darna? That's a local TV series that she did and yet she doesn't watch local shows/films daw? In short, ma ere sya pero wala namang pinanggalingan yung ere nya. Nakatira yata to sa trampoline.
May point naman. Bihira ako manood ng movies, kahit sine or Netflix pa yan.
Most local movies, either very common ang plot, predictable ang story line, hype dahil sikat ang bida, pabebe love teams or trashy comedy lines.
Sorry, but with the quality of Filipino movies? They also need to step up. I gave Filipino movies a shot in the last year (via Netflix) after not watching in decades and was appalled at the lack of growth.
i used to watch tagalog films a lot as a child. Original stories talaga. Lalo na the old films from the 50s-60s. Kaya nga ok lang pag may replay sa tv before. Sadly, this is not the case now. Tv series pa lang, panay adaptation of foreign ones. Let's face it. mahirap maghanap ng local film na original ang storyline, There will always be something copied that will make the story predictable. Tapos yun mga artists nowadays,..... not the same caliber as the senior stars.
Kaya wag kayo mag inarte kung ayaw kayo panuorin not worth it at sayang pa pera mahal ng sine ngayon
Don't watch if you dont want to watch, pero yung sasabihin mo pa yun para magfeeling better person which the commenter imply.
Colonial mentality kasi. Pero kapag foreign film Kahit gaanong kachaka ipagtatanggol pa. Papanoorin, may time panoorin. Ew. Kaya hindi umuunlad pilipinas.
I don't think a Filipino who says he/she doesn't watch local films is being condescending. That Richard Juan is the one who is condescending. I'm a film enthusiast and to be honest, if you have watched films across the world, you'll realize how cheap and low quality most Filipino films are nowadays. The old films were classic. Then, directors gave us stories THEY want us to see. Today, directors give us stories that WE want to see. The only Filipino films I watched at the cinema for the past 30 years were On The Job and Honor Thy Father. And to Richard, I hope I could meet you personally to tell this to your face- you're a new producer and yet you have the gall to call out those who don't watch Filipino films. And for what? This cheap romantic movie you produced which isn't even up to par with Before Sunrise?! Do better.
Truth is nakita namin how koreans make a drama and movies so tumaas ang standard natin coz sinanay tayo ng local films natin just for money mga ginagawa pare parehong kwento
sorry to say madaming kabit series/movies and rags to riches at basura na korean movies/series, same din sa pinoy movies. maganda kang ang cinematopraphy nila. i totally disagree with you in terms of tumaas ang standard because of korean shiz. i can sense na korean faney ka.
Like is it a regular thing for them?
I always get surprised when my coworkers here in America (Hispanics, some Samoan/Tongan) love watching Filipino dramas and movies on Netflix. Mas naaappreciate pa nila yun kesa sakin, admittedly. Yes, we all.have different tastes, pero atleast since some of my coworkers recommended Filipino movies they watched on Netflix, I've watched them as well. Word of mouth really helps. As a Filipino, I definitely want to do more of my part.
Meaning, they've seen limited movies aside from pinoy films.
E di hahanap ng brand na swak sa gusto di ba… same sa movies, its also business and may target market/audience…
New producer. That says it all!
Same. And infernez pinanood ko movies nya noon… yung heiress, with maricel pa yun pero, so so lang, pwede ng di panoodin… yung mermaid sya with elmo, anchaka talaga di ko tinapos.
Kung gusto nyong tangkilikin ang mga gawa nyong pelikula then give what the masses want.
Yabang mo. End of the day, it is our choice where to spend our money to. Can't blame people for feeling that way sa local films natin.
I’ve seen movies and series produced by other countries on Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video and I must say Philippines suffers in comparison production-wise. Other countries really spend on production design and costume. In the Philippines, sobrang tipid when it comes to production values. Mapili na ang moviegoers these days.
Yes true na time consuming manood pag sa sinehan. Magaaya ka ng kasama, tapos maliligo, magbibihis, magaayos, mag kocommute or babyahe (hanap ng parking), bibili ng food and drinks, mag antay sa oras ng showing THEN finally, uupo at manonood. Not only that, magastos pa. WHILE sa Netflix, at other streaming sites, wala pang isang minuto, pede ka na manood…. Kahit walang ligo at ayos. Wala pang mahabang pila sa toilet, pede mo pa i-pause, rewind if hindi mo naintindihan. Walang tanong sa katabi ng “ano daw?” You can even do other things while watching. Kaya dapat worth watching talga if one makes an effort to go to the cinemas……….
No time to watch LOW QUALITY local films.
Time is precious. Why watch something you don't like? I don't like watching pinoy movies too and I don't listen to opm or watch shows like eat bulaga, etc. It's called preference.
Kung ayaw niya manood wag, but maling these kinds of statements do not help in any way. Imbis na mag reklamo lang why don't you give an actual fully formed opinion so movie makers can be better.
Now i know why di sumikat etong janella like her contemporaries… ate chona pala… and maldita pa sumagot… sya kaya etong condescending at pa sophisticated sumagot. Lol
She can't simply insult us by branding us "arrogant" and "condescending" - so we should go watch Pinoy Movies. Wake up call din yan sa Pinoy Movie industry to be better.
Not all, but most local films talaga are not worth our time. Sorry for saying the truth.

Deletequite the contratry, SC actually revived the local movie scene. i remember during the 90s juskoday ang mga sinehan panay "bomba and "ST" ph films ang palabas from viva, regal and seiko. the problem now is, yung mga bagong producers are trying to copy what SC have done successfully over the past few years hence why we are now stuck sa overused, nakakadiring LT formula ng mga movie.
Wala naman bago, but just because malaki fanbase, ayun pinipilit.
DeleteEh, sa talagang walang time manuod, kayo nalang!
Huli teleserye napanood ko ata, on the wings of love pa. That was the time na addict pa ako sa Jadine Hangang na expired na ako maging fan. Last movie ko sa sinehan na Pinoy film is hello love goodbye 🥲. Sorry na yan ang Totoo… siempre yung Iba sa Netflix na pero selected lang I watched it kasi hype siya or pinag uusapan.
ReplyDeleteako din hlg last movie na pinanood ko in an actual movie house. yung mga bagong addition sa netflix from the previous mmff, tried wtching them at napakaboring wala pa ako sa half, give up na ako sayang nga sa oras at buti na lang di ako nagpadala sa hype nung xmas.
DeleteShe always reply in a suplada way that is why she gets attack even if she tells the truth.
ReplyDeleteYes, agree and they promoted fabricated kunwari totoong in love ang mga love teams in the name of money.
ReplyDeleteTruth!!
Deletei prefer nonlocal films but nanonood nmn ako pag type ko or intrigued ako, kasi may mga ok din nmn like i recently watched deleter, then a very good girl, also in my mother's skin, and ndi nmn ako nadisappoint.
ReplyDelete1:44 that's the right attitude I think. Dont be closeminded and say na basta local film pangit agad.
Walang sense yung movie.
DeleteSorry to hear that. Congrats on the movie and whether it's a hit or miss with locals, at least you tried.
ReplyDeleteTakes one to know one Janella, js
ReplyDeleteFlop ba yung movie nila?
DeleteLolll it does not look like the commenter intended to be sophisticated. Wala lang sya talagang panahon at oras… mas si janella yung may tone and intended to be sophisticated, arrogant and condescending. IMO.
ReplyDeleteThis!! Defensive kasi sila at condescending nga.
DeleteAs if Janella. I cant blame him. Pati storyline same same lang
ReplyDeleteMahilig ako manood noon ng local films.. pero nagdegrade talaga in recent years, so formulaic and predictable, with cringey dialogues and pinagtagpi tagpi editing… may mga maganda panrin naman pero mangilan ngilan na lang talaga… ung nagustuhan ko lately na not so mainstream bar boys, ellenya l… yung with famous actors naman, on the job and the gifted with anne and cristine…pero this one di masyado kumita or umingay unlike their first one na about kabitan…
ReplyDeleteTo be frank naman kasi, the quality of local movie is really so-so. Yung ibang movie makers, as long as merong big emotional outburst, feeling nila Oscar worthy na. But that’s not the case.
ReplyDeleteShe can sing but she's not exceptional. There are others who are way talented than her. She can act but she's not remarkable. Look what happened to Darna? That's a local TV series that she did and yet she doesn't watch local shows/films daw? In short, ma ere sya pero wala namang pinanggalingan yung ere nya.
Bihira ako manood ng movies, kahit sine or Netflix pa yan.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but with the quality of Filipino movies? They also need to step up. I gave Filipino movies a shot in the last year (via Netflix) after not watching in decades and was appalled at the lack of growth.
ReplyDeleteUng mga lumang pinoy films entertaining at magandang panoorin. Ngayon mema na lang. Mapa sa tv or sa sinehan or sa streaming apps.
ReplyDeletemost local films naman talaga are not good. we can only name a few na maganda.
ReplyDeletei used to watch tagalog films a lot as a child.
ReplyDeleteAgree.
Kaya wag kayo mag inarte kung ayaw kayo panuorin not worth it at sayang pa pera mahal ng sine ngayon
ReplyDeleteDon't watch if you dont want to watch, pero yung sasabihin mo pa yun para magfeeling better person which the commenter imply.
ReplyDeleteIf he chose a more popular leading lady, papatok ‘to.
ReplyDeleteColonial mentality kasi. Pero kapag foreign film
ReplyDeleteKahit gaanong kachaka ipagtatanggol pa. Papanoorin, may time panoorin. Ew. Kaya hindi umuunlad pilipinas.
Just because you have low standard on films eh patriot ka na lol
You're only saying that because you're doing local films.
ReplyDeleteWala kaming time mag sine, Janella. Ikaw na lang.
ReplyDeleteDear lahat tayo makakaranas ng rejection. Hindi ka espesyal.
ReplyDeleteI don't think a Filipino who says he/she doesn't watch local films is being condescending.
ReplyDeleteAnd to Richard, I hope I could meet you personally to tell this to your face- you're a new producer and yet you have the gall to call out those who don't watch Filipino films. And for what? This cheap romantic movie you produced which isn't even up to par with Before Sunrise?! Do better.
Best comment. Sya itong mayabang. Very valid naman yung comment na "no time for that" for so many reasons.
DeleteTruth is nakita namin how koreans make a drama and movies so tumaas ang standard natin coz sinanay tayo ng local films natin just for money mga ginagawa pare parehong kwento
ReplyDeleteVery well said! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Deletekundi kabit, rags to riches tapos naghiganti
sorry to say madaming kabit series/movies and rags to riches at basura na korean movies/series, same din sa pinoy movies. maganda kang ang cinematopraphy nila. i totally disagree with you in terms of tumaas ang standard because of korean shiz. i can sense na korean faney ka.
DeleteSa mahal ng bilihin ngayon at products nasa atin na if mag aaksaya tayo ng pera for non quality films local man or hindi
ReplyDeleteWow dun sa Janella pa mismo galing yung arrogant and condescending? HAHAHAHAA
Like is it a regular thing for them?
DeleteHindi kami makanood kasi paos kami.
ReplyDeleteRichard Juan- eto ung may issue dati fiba?
ReplyDeleteI always get surprised when my coworkers here in America (Hispanics, some Samoan/Tongan) love watching Filipino dramas and movies on Netflix.
ReplyDeleteMeaning, they've seen limited movies aside from pinoy films.
DeleteMakasalita mga laiteros dito ng local shows and films mga all knowing. Try nyo gumawa kung kaya ninyo!
ReplyDeleteProducer ba kami. Target market kami. E di hahanap ng brand na swak sa gusto di ba… same sa movies, its also business and may target market/audience…
DeleteSa madaling salita flop yung movie 😆
UNDER PARALLEL SKIES
ReplyDeleteNew producer. That says it all!
ReplyDeleteTrue. He talks as if he knows many things about the real problem.
ReplyDeletehahaha same. Ex., pag gerald ayoko panoorin. Imbes kiligin, nabi bwisit ako. lol
DeleteSame. And infernez pinanood ko movies nya noon… yung heiress, with maricel pa yun pero, so so lang, pwede ng di panoodin… yung mermaid sya with elmo, anchaka talaga di ko tinapos.
DeleteKung gusto nyong tangkilikin ang mga gawa nyong pelikula then give what the masses want.
ReplyDeleteWe have so many talented writers in different genre kaya nagtataka ako bakit almost same lang ang tirada ng mga pinapalabas ngayon.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Buti pa dati eh, yung panahon nina Vilma, Nora, magaganda movies.
DeleteSi Janella kaya nanonood ng local movies?
ReplyDeleteHer comment was a bit hypocrite actually. I like her pero na-missed nya yung point.
ReplyDeleteYabang mo. End of the day, it is our choice where to spend our money to. Can't blame people for feeling that way sa local films natin.
ReplyDeleteI’ve seen movies and series produced by other countries on Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video and I must say Philippines suffers in comparison production-wise. Other countries really spend on production design and costume. In the Philippines, sobrang tipid when it comes to production values. Mapili na ang moviegoers these days.
ReplyDeleteYes true na time consuming manood pag sa sinehan.
ReplyDeleteNadale mo, classmate!
No time to watch LOW QUALITY local films.
ReplyDeleteLove you to the stars and back ng joshlia yung last kung pinanood na movie sa sinehan .
DeleteTime is precious. Why watch something you don't like? I don't like watching pinoy movies too and I don't listen to opm or watch shows like eat bulaga, etc. It's called preference.
ReplyDeleteKung ayaw niya manood wag, but maling these kinds of statements do not help in any way. Imbis na mag reklamo lang why don't you give an actual fully formed opinion so movie makers can be better.
ReplyDeleteLol. Janella is rightfully tickled. She probably knows filipino movies are sh*t and isn't worth anyone's time.
ReplyDeleteWag ka ng pa cool, you're in a Pinoy chismis site.
Delete11:51 Cheers!
DeleteNow i know why di sumikat etong janella like her contemporaries… ate chona pala… and maldita pa sumagot… sya kaya etong condescending at pa sophisticated sumagot. Lol
ReplyDeleteJust like you Janella, you are arrogant and condescending. No wonder, you're still a B-lister
ReplyDeletemga trying hard mag pa-cool kasi yang mga "no time to watch local films"...
ReplyDeleteDi kasi lahat mababaw at like you…
DeleteYes local films are awful and my time is too limited to spend on mediocre and awful.
Win and Janella, lakas ng chemistry nila
ReplyDeleteI don’t watch local films unless horror cya kc puro basura sa Totoo lang
ReplyDeleteKung may time manonood?
She can't simply insult us by branding us "arrogant" and "condescending" - so we should go watch Pinoy Movies. Wake up call din yan sa Pinoy Movie industry to be better.
ReplyDeleteLike Janella, we just want to define our boundaries - that's why we don't watch Pinoy movies.
ReplyDeleteeh bat nagaartista!?
ReplyDelete
