Volunteering is a great and beautiful thing, but I dont get why we must always find purpose from other things or people, instead of loving ourselves directly and making our own selves and lives our purpose? Para hindi flimsy ang happiness.
I also volunteered a lot. I even travelled to Israel. Its a good thing but also, its a way to validate the self and one's own goodness. Marami akong nameet sa Ulpan na young Americans and Canadians who volunteer to prove they are 'good' at nakalista ang volunteering nila sa CV nila. One told me that it increases their social responsibility factor. I get it, they did it for kudos points. when they were with us sa Kibbutz, they were beyond bored and couldn't wait to go home.
If you do it for validation, doesn't it defeat the purpose? Also, isn't being good not a one-time validation but lifetime? It's a way of life, it applies to choices we make everyday. Please don't get me wrong, I have nothing against volunteering, and in fact, I wish more people volunteered because it means people or creatures that need help get them, but I just wish that instead of finding reasons and purposes through the others, whether it's people or things, we should do it for ourselves. This is how we become real with ourselves and not see us through others, and become unbreakable if we work on ourselves instead of others.

Her name is the headline - Marimar, Darna, Amaya, Dyesebel, etc. hindi lang sa Pinas pati na rin sa ibang bansa na bumili ng teleserye ng GMA. Marian is happily married, with a committed husband and children. She has a good relationship with her in laws. She just became a costar to a billion peso history making movie and yet incomparable siya kay AT na matagal ng wala sa showbiz at everytime nagpi PR DD parati ang topic at nagagamit pa si Marian? ReplyDeleteVolunteering is a great and beautiful thing, but I dont get why we must always find purpose from other things or people, instead of loving ourselves directly and making our own selves and lives our purpose? Para hindi flimsy ang happiness.
ReplyDeleteI also volunteered a lot. I even travelled to Israel. Its a good thing but also, its a way to validate the self and one's own goodness. Marami akong nameet sa Ulpan na young Americans and Canadians who volunteer to prove they are 'good' at nakalista ang volunteering nila sa CV nila. One told me that it increases their social responsibility factor. I get it, they did it for kudos points. when they were with us sa Kibbutz, they were beyond bored and couldn't wait to go home.
DeleteIf you do it for validation, doesn't it defeat the purpose? Also, isn't being good not a one-time validation but lifetime? It's a way of life, it applies to choices we make everyday. Please don't get me wrong, I have nothing against volunteering, and in fact, I wish more people volunteered because it means people or creatures that need help get them, but I just wish that instead of finding reasons and purposes through the others, whether it's people or things, we should do it for ourselves. This is how we become real with ourselves and not see us through others, and become unbreakable if we work on ourselves instead of others.
Delete9:59 Ako si 5:00 pm. Yes, if you do it for validation, nawawala ang point ng volunteering. Also, if done for a sense of status amd to pad the CV, parang giangamit lang ang concept ng volunteering for self interest.
