It was mostly white people who hosted those events. And the punchlines have always been humorously darkly offensive. But they didnt laugh much with Jokoy because he why, he wasn’t that white to make fun of them?! Come on.

It's been repeated multiple times, plus you can feel Jo Koy was so nervous or unsure when he delivered the joke. It just didn't land this time. No hate whatsoever.

But had it been delivered by a well known personality, I doubt kung magmamaasim ng mukha si Taylor. The joke wasnt even harsh. Mas nakakahiya pa Yung ginawa ni Kanye sa kanya dati na on stage pinahiya. Whether you like it or not, jokoy was chosen to host GG and even in such short notice, na sa iba e months pinaghahandaan, he did well.

Moving forward, at least this has served as a learning experience to Jokoy. The worked his way up for the past 2 decades now. For those who are saying he is using the Pinoy card, well nope! I remember Ellen also struggling when she hosted Oscar’s. She didn’t get that much glowing review din. Golden globes is more intimidating actually kasi napaka intimate ng set-up. Yung mga previous hosts din naman meron part na hit at off ang jokes. So ok lang din. Nde nag iisa si Jokoy. It just hits harder for me as Pinoy kasi syempre kabayan. Hehe.

ReplyDeleteI watched the whole monologue. The only thing I didn’t like was when he threw his writers off the bus. But the rest, some funny some meh to the point na parang dad jokes na lang. And to almost everybody there in the audience, Jokoy is a “nobody.” If it was Kevin Hart I bet they won’t find the jokes offensive. Just google Ricky Gervais, he roasted every entitled celebrity in the audience but nobody gave a flying f—k. I just hope Jokoy won’t lose his career after this GG brouhaha.

ReplyDeleteHis demeanor as a host was too nervous. Probably felt intimidated with the power audience he wasn't friends with, and the lack of prep. Anyway', hosting is not his forte. At least he gave it a go. Lesson learnt.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the joke was not exactly a dig at Taylor but the media’s fascination with a celebrity’s lovelife: The constant speculation whether Taylor was going to attend a game, whether the relationship is still going strong, the constant camera shots during a game on Taylor to see her reaction, etc. if jimmy Kimmel or a white comedian cracked that joke and not a tiny Filipino I think the backlash won’t be as huge.

Hence we dont get good competition according to merit but rather according to DEI. Hence, I'd rather watch stuff elsewhere. I have 90% turned back from anything Hollywood. So plastic, preachy and recycled. I wanna be entertained, not lectured to.

Jo koy is the winner in the end, viral siya and pinag usapan and that is the name of the game in hollywood.

Deletewhile I do not find his jokes funny during GG. I wasn’t like other Pinoy na grabe maka bash kay Jokoy. I am still his fan. I watched him perform live here sa US in one of his tour . You can really tell that he has a lot of followers coming from all ethnicities. Ricky Gervais they said was funnier, he also had offensive jokes during previous GG. Kung OA si Jokoy , mas OA ang reaction ng karamihan ng Pinoy na naglipana sa social media outlets. Yes, I noticed karamihan Pinoy pa ang bumatikos kay Jokoy
ReplyDeleteDamned if you do, damned if you don't talaga si Taylor Swift dito. First off, swifties and haters need to calm down. It's not offensive, just a tired recycled joke. She tried to keep a poker face by sipping on wine instead tbf. If she didn't find the joke funny, would you rather she give out a fake laugh or chuckle or smile just so Jo Koy will feel better? He's a comedian, some jokes just don't land.

DeleteJokoy was a last minute choice, sa dami ng mga a-attend at mga nominees, yong 10 days kulang to write a really polish material. Totoo naman na pag celebrity ang bf/gf ng players, madalas sa kanila ang camera ah? Bakit gigil mga fans ni TS? Kaya lang naman naging issue kasi Jokoy is not famous among these crowd. Put Tom Cruise there, di ba kahit corny tawa yang mga yan.
