    2. Marami rin ganyan dito sa US. Must speak Spanish mga ganun. Bottomline discrimination is global.

      Delete
    3. Kung Hispanic businesses naman siyempre dapat marunong? Lalo na at maraming Hispanic sa US.@12:45

    4. 12:45 iba naman dito hano

    5. In my opinion, yung must speak Spanish is for the demographic of the location - mas discriminatory naman yung may requirement on weight and clear complexion.

      Delete
I’m a nurse here in Texas sa southern part at karamihan ay Spanish-speaking lalo na pag adults. Tinaggap naman ako kahit hindi ako marunong mag Spanish but I’m learning the language at may translator din na available 24/7 sa mobile phones na gamit namin sa work.

      Delete
    7. 12:45 girl, don’t lie. Walang must speak spanish requirement unless translator yung trabaho. Preferred nila kung meron man but not a must ang nakasulat sa mga now hiring posters. Ang dali kaya mang sue sa US for discriminatory things.

      Delete
    8. 12:45 I agree with you pero yung nakalagay na MUST is probably most of their clients speaks that specific language or in an area where spanish population live kaya need nila ng ganun.
Iba talaga sa pinas kahit picture kailangan isubmit sa application.

      Delete
    9. 12:45, that ia true. Anywhere meron talaga. Dito sa Middle East, even profrssionals basta Asian, mahirap umakyat sa ladder at talagang nadidiscriminate.

      Delete
Naghahanap yata sila ng model for a waitress job. Lol

    11. taas ng standard parang flight attendant lol

    13. 12:45 must speak Spanish is a qualification, kasi siguro karamihan ng customers are latinos. Yung weight must be proportionate to height is discriminatory, kasi hindi naman yun basehan at never makaka-apekto sa ability mo to work well.

      Delete
    14. 12:45 hindi porke sinabi must speak spanish is discrimination na agad hindi mo ba naisip na baka they cater to a large number of spanish speaking people. Minsan ayusin ang pagcocomment. Kc dito meron din minsan must speak english and tagalog or english and mandarin not because they’re discriminating its because some people are more comfortable talking to someone who understands and speak their language. Katulad mo obviously di ko na intindihan

      Delete
    15. 12:45 speaking Spanish is skill based meaning they will most likely be serving a pre dominantly Spanish speaking clientele. They didn't say has to be Spanish which is discriminatory.

      Delete
    16. 9:38 "must speak Spanish" is a skill, wala naman kinalaman sa racial discrimination. I know some who can). Similarly, may Europeans and Americans who cam speak Asian languages.

      Delete
With that Spanish thing, needed naman kasi yan for workers to understand other people who can't speak English.

      Delete
Although I've never heard of that, usually incentive yung spanish speaker and you get paid more for having that skill but workplaces don't discriminate against those who can't speak spanish. Of course, if it's between a non-spanish speaker and a spanish speaker na parehas lahat ng qualifications then the spanish speaker would get the job cause that person has more skills. Most of the time ang discrimination sa US workplaces implicit, for example people with ethnic sounding names get overlooked, or di kaya asians in the workplace get perceived as working machines cause of their tendency to not complain. Yung klase ng discrimination na nangyayari sa pinas at sa ibang asian countries though such as looks, kung saan ka nagaral (to some extent), age, all of the western world have moved past that.

      Delete
    20. 12:45 Bilingual or multilingual requirement is not discrimination. Spanish is the 2nd most spoken language in the US. A lot of things considered to be discriminatory in the US but not this one.

      Delete
    21. 1245 - certain areas lang nila kelangan ng bilingual for better customer service. Nakaka frustrate on both parties kung may language barrier. Its not discrimination.

      Haist!

    2. True kaya madaming mas gustong mag abroad na lang kahit malayo at dilikado minsan.

      Delete
    3. Totoo, nung time ko 25+ years ago, sa newspaper pa kami nun nahanap ng work… kelangan graduate ka ng UP, Ateneo or DLSU - it was specified so dun ako mas nag aaply kasi alam ko na qualified ako even if I didn’t graduate from those schools. Grabe rin discrimination di ba.

    5. So truth. Tpos ung mga politicians natin, my gahd!!!! Super baba ng credentials or qualities to be hired on that position. Mga mukhang mabaho and unpleasant to look at.

    6. Hi 10:49 From TESDA ako and kung hairdressing NC II or kaya beauty care NC II wala namang calculus fun kundi practical knowledge and skills training na angkop sa industry standards.

What anon meant was bat need pa ng degree eh TESDA certificate is more than enough na naman since di naman need mag calculus as a hair dresser. Mentioning calculus was intended to exaggerate bakit hindi na need ng college degree kasi oa ng requirements nila. Gets?

    12. 12:45 i think you did not understand what 10:49 said. It is the hair salon who discriminates TESDA certs.

    1. Please teach us how you were able to do it po, especially how you were able to go and stay there.

Yung alam ko lang kasi is to study sa UK yung entry pero super mahal naman yung bayad sa immigration companies, and you really have to go to school and work at odd jobs at the same time pangtustos sa school. So pano naman makakapadala sa family back home, or if dala mo na family pano sila bubuhayin ng isang working student? Life is so hard here sa Philippines especially if one also suffers from a mental condition. Kahit pa high-functioning, something’s got to give.

      Delete
    2. Malamang married sa citizen si OP?

      Delete
    3. 10:54 PM kaya ka nga student visa. Meaning kailangan mag focus ka sa studies mo, yung sa work part time lang yun para ipang tustos sa gastusin mo. If wala kang bahay, mahihirapan ka kasi mahal.

      Delete
    4. 12:41 malamang talaga? And even so he/she is indeed married to one, you still sound discriminatory yourself

      Delete
  4. Weight must be proportionate to height ba?

Patay gutom ganern. Walang payat na nagkukilimbat ng paninda? Ewan ko sayo

      Delete

      Delete
    3. So feeling mo majujubis gumagawa neto? Ganun ba? Tapos mga mapapayat hindi gagawin yon?

      Delete
    4. pinagsasabi mo dyan! kahit ano pang tama nang sinabi mo or may katotohanan man, dapat sa sarili na lang nila yan when they are doing the hiring process. ang malaking pagkakamali nila, nilagay pa talaga nila ito sa papel para mabasa ng lahat kung gaano sila magdiscriminate ng tao based on appearance. akala mo naman kung ano ang trabaho at kalaki na sweldo na kailangan gaganda ng empleyado 🙄 sobrang nakakadismaya!

      Delete

Mataba ako pero di ako namimili ng Potato Corner kasi hyped and overpriced sya for me.

  28. To cook fries you have to have a good set of teeth? Customer service doesn't require a big beautiful smile, only a great attitude.

Kaya dito sa Canada it's illegal to ask an applicant to attach a photo on their resume/application form. They banned that practice more than 20 years ago. Dahil ang ibang companies mag-discriminate na agad based on a photo kaya mas fair and equal kung hindi mo makita appearance ng applicant, and the job can be awarded based on actual credentials and experience. Madaming Asian countries like Philippines and Korea are still heavily favoring looks over skills kaya they still require photos on resumes and physical appearance requirements.

      2. Having misaligned or crooked teeth is different from being bungal. Just because hindi pantay ang ngipin doesn't mean that the person has poor dental hygiene. Could just be genetics.

  39. In most countries, it is against labor/recruitment laws & regulations to include gender, age, ethnicity, & physical attributes requirements in job advertisements. Surely, may ganyang batas din sa pinas to protect employees from any form of discrimination. Speaking as someone who had a certificate in employment intermediaries from Singapore. Sana hindi lang apology and mangyari, if may naviolate na regulation sana ma-penalize din. How I wish na sumabay na ang pinas sa labor practices ng mga bansa sa SEA, sobrang napag iwanan na tayo tbh.

    1. 12:51 AM - Your conclusion can only be partially true. You have to accept the flip side that other applicants at that time must have had better schools and grades than you, did better during the interview, and were better looking too or were more pleasant and confident - hence they were hired instead of you.

  43. Sadly, this does not promote equal opportunity employment and this practice still exists in the Philippines. I remember years ago when I was looking for an office job in the Philippines, the job qualification clearly states that the candidates must be graduates of top universities, i.e., UP, Ateneo, DLSU, and UST. There is also an age bracket and must submit photo ID. Ang lakas maka-discriminate.

    1. I had my practicum sa HR sa isang big hospital before and one of my jobs was to administer IQ tests to applicants and I can tell you this, I can detect with a fair amount of accuracy kung sino galing sa big 4 schools na yan based on their IQ scores and how well made thier resume is. Ibang usapan na yung softskills, work ethics, etc. but dun ko nalaman it does pay to study in those schools kung yun yung basehan.
Yung mga na callback for interviews were from those schools not because of the school they came from but kasi mataas score nila at matalino sila on paper. Hindi sa discriminatory pero it is what it is. As an employer anlaki ng pile of resumés at bat nga naman magsasayang ng oras sa aplikante na mababa score.

  55. As someone who worked on a jobs platform where we enforced on discriminatory content, ito yung main points:

    - A lot of people here seem to focus on the appearance issue, but the truth is, not all personal attributes are considered as protected characteristics. Ang "totoong" discrimination dito based on common universal labor laws ay pag dating sa age, skin color and gender. There's no justification as to why a 31-year-old or someone who identifies as male/other or someone with dark skin would not be able to do this job.
    - If a company has high standards pag dating sa academic qualifications, that's their prerogative. But of course, mahihirapan silang mag hire kung hindi naman akma sa role yung requirements nila.
    - While not a protected characteristic, it's definitely archaic to make "looks" a qualification. It shows na outdated yung hiring practices nila. Nobody looks at a staff member's height or weight kung bibili ka lang ng fries.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Grabe maka discriminate!

    ReplyDelete
Sana wag sa looks or age ang criteria or reqts for employment kundi ang skill set or values man lang nung applicant.
