With the explosion in social media of discovering breakthrough talents, mainstream players are on the lookout for a cut in the pie of the next big personality. Of course, newbies who start their careers via social media have in mind the goal of going mainstream to achieve wide fame.
Many talents have been discovered and singled out because industry movers saw their potential as moneymakers in the industry. Thus, many have responded to offers and allowed themselves to be taken care of as far as their career is concerned. Contracts are signed and bookings made to increase the reach of the talents.
Unfortunately, regret for some comes when these signed talents realize what they have gotten into. First, their movements have to conform according to the conditions set by their mainstream managers. Second, their creativity is affected as they might have to keep within the image set for them. Finally, the financial aspect becomes a considerable factor. Apparently, prior to being managed, the talents get their social media earnings fully. However, as signed talents, the management gets a huge share of their earnings. Sadly, the practice is ongoing and talents could only think twice if being managed by the big industry players is the best way for their careers.
‘One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.’ ― Shannon L. Alder

You have to make sacrifices if you want to make it big. Gusto yata libre lahat? 🤣
ReplyDeleteI guess entertainers sa Pinas are starting to share the plight of Korean entertainers, that of abusive managers and agencies. Dapat magset na ng guidelines ang gobyerno to make sure na di ma-abuse especially mga kabataan, especially against very long term contract. Otherwise baka dadami din ang cases ng depression and we know what happens afterwards. Yung kayod ka ng kayod pero di mo nakikita pinaghirapan mo.
ReplyDeleteYung isang manager na kahit tapos na yung contract pinagkakakitaan pa rin
DeleteHi Anon 12:52am yan yung residual receipts na tinatawag. that project was signed when the talent was still under contract. since it was thru the management effort that the project got materialized it is just and fair that they will get commissioned.
Deleteganun talaga kaya yung ibang influencer ayaw ng may management. but at the same time mas lalawak connections mo lalo na sa brands if may naghahandle sayo. give and take lang. u have to make sacrifices. sabi nga nila “heavy is the head who wears the crown”
ReplyDeletethat's literally the price they have to pay for seeking popularity
ReplyDeleteKawawa rin iyong ibang new talents, ini exploit ng mga evil abusive manager.
