I super like Erwan. Grabe yung love niya sa family niya and even to his sister Solenn's fam. And yes, yung dedication niya sa work niya talaga kahanga-hanga.
Ang tatak Pinoy kasi, kahit simpleng luto with minimal ingredients sumasarap kasi may "lambing". Yung it tastes like home. Gives you comfort. Ok din naman mag-experiment pero minsan parang too much and too complicated yung kanya.
I appreciate the research and the effort they put into their videos. Ganda rin ng quality. Ang off lang sa kin minsan, parang ginagawa nilang "oh, ang exotic ng Pinoy dish or ingredient na to!" para lang bumagay sa docu-type narrative nila. While in fact, some of the dishes and ingredients are common local food and ingredients. Parang, let's make it pa-deep and exotic para sa cultural eme eme. Para kasing they are doing it para sa international audience, kasi mahilig nga sila sa mga exotic food kuno. Then the recipes sometimes aren't very Pinoy na kasi kung anu-ano nang hinalo-halo nya. Nawawala yung essence ng pagiging local at simple. In other words, at times may pagka-pretentious.
Sabi nga ni Erwan, their aim is to introduce Filipino dishes to the rest of the world.
Oo, goal nila is to introduce the local dishes/food/ingredients to the international market. Pero gets ko rin naman yung point nung nagsabing parang ginagawan nila ng unnecessary hype minsan yung ibang dish or process of making food. They don't have to make it look like exotic sya. They just have to stay true to the local Pinoy flavor and processes. Medyo ang hard sell lang kasi minsan - too obvious that they want the international market to see this as exotic just to impress. Again, minsan lang naman ito and generally, the videos are well-made talaga. Parang ano lang yan eh...it's a thin line between marketing the local food to the international audience and making sure hindi sya exploitative of the local culture.
I’m not impressed with him as a cook. I remember when he was introduced as Solenn’s brother in Survivor and Solenn was saying he was a “chef” and there was too much hype and they weren’t even correcting it until the past couple of years ago when Anne said that he isn’t a chef but a cook kasi dami na rin nakakanotice na parang di naman siya ganon kagaling magluto.
Yun gawa nila pwede na bilhin ng Netflix or Amazon Prime to become a documentary series on food.
I really like the quality of their production. Very cinematic at well-researched ang content. Siguro ang lacking lang for me is the local flavor. The videos feel like they are made by someone from the outside looking in - sometimes it feels like di Pinoy yung mga gumawa. I know it's more of showcasing the local dishes, informative, narrative type - siguro nakukulangan lang ako sa puso doon sa videos. Doesn't have to have the "awww" moment, baka may mamilosopo dyan. It's more of the feeling na this is very Pinoy - relatable, may warmth. Baka kasi it's too polished and stiff? If the goal is marketing the Pinoy-ness, baka kailangan ng kaunting puso. Again, they're really well made. Kung may score ito, perfect score sila. Informative pero it does not stick with you.
It lacks the Pinoy charm. Kulang ng personality. Sa dami ng videos online promoting local dishes of his/her own country, nagmumukha syang one of those because it doesn't have the personality or the Pinoy-ness, sabi mo nga. Good na good ang videos nila as docu, no questions there. Yun nga lang mukhang generic. I'm guessing si Erwan ang writer kasi very Erwan din yung videos eh. Baka nga they might want to try to have someone else write it.
I personally don't like Erwan especially with that hairstyle but I appreciate his work his dedication his patience with his wife. Way to go Ser

DeletePatience with his wife? Part ka ng inner circle?
Delete12:12 AM And what did Anne do to require patience from Erwan? At anong basehan ng pagma-Marites mo?! Hahaha!
Delete2:52 si Anne mismo nagsasabi patient si Erwan as a husband and lalo as a father. Pag mang-iinsulto ka, siguraduhin mong may sense ha?
