Twice ata ako naka encounter in 13 years. Yun sinasabi Michelle na barcode, must be Paylah but hindi pa ko naka encounter. I also lived in Shanghai, China for a while, way back in 2017, through QR code in WeChat na talaga ang pag pass ng money dun even to beggars. Shookt din ako back then.
Scammer yun and not beggar. Begging is illegal in SG. Kahit yung mga street performers kailangan may permit or gov will give something for them to sell in return for your cash.

The elderlies and disabled naman can apply for license to sell tissues at mrt stations. Some do busking pero need din ng license.

Pero these people are licensed. They are usually the oldies and or disabled. Meron din yung FOREIGNERS na nagbebenta ng keychains, pens sa mga malls and kopitiams (na obviously not licensed) na nagbebenta ala quiboloy peeps. Pero di din sila namimilit. May mangilan ngilan na hihingi lang ng dos kunwari pamasahe nila papunta sa other side of sg. But they usually just ask for $2 or so. Never encountered any with barcodes.

Regarding the code, I think it's PayNow or PayLah which is a standard way of payment here in SG recently. I actually went to church today for a Good Friday Mass, I also saw some codes pasted on the pews for those who would want to give their money offerings in a cashless mode. Last time I went to SG wala ako nakita nanlilimos. May nakita ako parang homeless, matanda sleeping on a bench malapit sa library with a stroller full of stuff.
Dito sa Toronto, nanghihingi ng token noon $3 , ang reason, naiwan ang wallet at walang pamasahe. Kapag nakarami , ibebenta at ang sasabihin. Hindi na kakailanganin. Ngayon, pinalitan na ng pass card. Maraming homeless dito sa sobrang mahal ng rent at presyo ng bahay. Ang taas ng interest rate. Maraming nawalan ng trabaho. Nagsarang store. Struggling pa rin.
Dito sa Japan wala pa akong na encounter na beggars. Pero homeless meron dito kaya lang hindi dahil mahirap sila kundi dahil pinili nilang maging homeless talaga...kasi pwede naman silang suportahan ng government kung lalapit sila.
I'm this ignorant. Pero may beggars pala sa SG. Other countries, yes. But for SG I had no idea.

Nope, that's a qr code. Most likely Paylah or PayNow. It exposes the account of the receiver, not the sender.
