The sad truth is, despite HUNDREDS OF YEARS of history in the Philippines, it’s the unwelcoming actions like this that makes us Chinoys feel like we STILL don’t belong here 😢#ProudChinoy 🇵🇭 https://t.co/oDWPba1zTS

Baka mga good luck chenes yun.
DeleteHe IS Filipino. Half Filipino does not make you banyaga. He lives here and he claims the country as his own. Also...West Philippines Sea is ours! Haha
DeleteKaramihan ng Chinese meron nyan sa pinto. New Year greetings yan and wishing them good fortune.
Delete1:02 have some empathy please. Imagine kung fil am ka and you are trying to celebrate a filipino holiday then your neighbor begrudgingly puts up an american flag to try to imply your roots are frowned upon.
DeleteSa America po yun. Wag kasi palaging magkumpara.
Delete1:02 maybe because Ellen zoomed in on the Chinese words so people started assuming
Delete1:02 - same here in the UK.. you can walk 5km and you'll spot at least 1 to 2 houses with the Scottish/Welsh/English/GB flag. Then you can multiply that by 10 during major sporting events like the World Cup or Olympics.
DeleteOnly malicious minds would think that way,+ reading the tweet of a certain Richard Juan who thinks displyaying of PH Flag of Derek Ramsay is an unwelcome act for Chinoys and the caption of a certain news outlet then you have this. He couldve been the bigger person #perspective
Little knowledge is Dangerous ika nga ...
Delete1:30 lunar new year goodluck door couplets, pampaswerte ng mga Chinese sa new year
DeleteHuh? So it's ok to have a written chinese sign in front of your house and offensive for a neighbor to hang a flag? Unless Derek is purposely throwing a shade at his neighbor..what's the story here?
ReplyDeleteSinagot mo rin. Obviously he’s throwing shade. Anlayo pa ng Independence Day which is the occasion Pinoys usually hang the Philippine flag in their dwellings. Tapos all of a sudden may pa flag sya just because the neighbor had chinese writings on their house?
Delete@12:53 May pinagmumulan yan.
Delete1:33 korak
Delete1:33 and by doing this feeling nyo nakaganti kayo? LOLhow childish
DeleteRelax. Prosperity sign lang ang nakasulat for Chinese New Year. Tsk! Ang bilis ma-offend ng mga tao ngayon.
Delete@1:33 Here’s a rough translation of the Chinese characters: “May good luck arrive at these doors each year. And may all things be gradually fulfilled to your heart’s desires”. Parang wala namang traces ng bullying yung message.
DeleteIt is his house. masyado lang sensitive itong chinese guy. e sila nga may Chinese sign sa house nila. pag sila pwede, Pag mga Pinoy di pwede?
DeleteSo does that mean na okay lg to be shady even towards Chinese people na wala namang ginagawang pambubully? Because of the territory issue?
ReplyDeleteAnd everywhere. Never ending na yan
DeleteSo gayahin natin???
DeleteFyi, living in China for so many years, walang discrimination po. Yung mga pinoy dito, mas ng discriminate.
DeleteWalang pakialamanan.
Deletemali naman kasi sina derek at ellen. chinese new year greeting yung nakakabit sa neighbor nila and yet parang they are mocking them... so immature, so ignorant. derek is 50 plus na ha, jeez man
ReplyDeleteHaha so true!!! Sobrang OA and ignorante sa totoo lang.
DeleteLolo na yung utak
DeleteTrue.
DeleteBut Derek looks like he is in his early 50's baka kaya napagkamalan singkwenta ni 11:29
DeleteWhatever reason they have for putting up the flag, with shade or none, no big deal. RJuan making a big deal of this is petty. He should be the bigger person and just shrug it off. There was no direct shade thrown.
ReplyDeleteJuskodzai, the chinese new year greetings yan. Wag ignorante
DeleteHe is pure Chinese/Taiwanese at matagal na syang naninirahan sa pinas, dito sya lumaki, nag aral, graduate, etc. that made him a Chinoy.
DeletePssst Taiwan is China
Delete1:38, not sure kung nagbago na batas ngayon. When I was born (Pinas), automatic Chinese citizen ako. Sinunod sa citizenship ng father ko, who is also born in Pinas from Chinese parents. My mom is a Pinay. That was late 60s. Nung early 80s, nag apply kami to become naturalized citizens. Yung mga ibang relatives ko, nagbago pa ng apelyido, while we kept ours.
DeleteWhat is wrong with that?
ReplyDeleteHa!??!! CNY yung sa neighbor, buti sana if nakalagay province of china , philippines. 🤦🏻♂️
DeleteYung sign sa kabilang bahay is custom ng mga Chinese pag CHINESE NEW YEAR, somebody translated it as wishing well those who enter their dwelling or something.
Same with derek, karapatan niya maglagay ng Philippine flag kung gusto niya.
DeleteDi po Taiwanese si Richard. Hong Kong kaya.
DeleteOh woww!
Laging pavictim.
ReplyDeleteI agrer. Ano bang offensive ginawa nila Derek. They are on philippine soil
Delete11:39 I agree. Pansin ko uso dito yan sa US na naka hang ang US within their front yard.
DeleteMaybe because people dont make them feel pinoy
Delete12:17 Taiwanese sya
So, for me.
Just like in the US, you see a lot of houses displaying their flag outside their house, why can't we do it here in the Philippines? My husband is chinoy, no Filipino blood in him and yet hinde naman sensitive sa mga ganito. I raise my children the Filipino way, Pinoys sila but they are aware of their Chinese roots. They don't feel any less than others but they know they look different from typical pinoy kids. Tayo na nga pinoy, tayo pa mag sad just?
ReplyDeleteI don't see anything wrong, nasa Pilipinas sila gusto nilang maglagay ng flag.
ReplyDeleteIf that was the inention sana
Delete12:18 Agree. It depends on when he put the flag up and for what purpose. If the chinese neighbor put it up to celebrate chinese new year, bakit kelangan tapatan ng flag??
DeletePlease watch the view and you will understand their intention
DeleteBut their intention is to mock their neighbor… na nagwi-wish lang naman ng prosperity for chinese new year.
DeleteIf the flag is displayed whole year round or if they displayed it in celebration of the independence day, then you can say that they are patriotric.
Obviously they just recently displayed it, hence people can’t help but speculate that they are putting it up as a response to what the neighbor hung by the gate.
I don’t understand what the characters meant but if it is indeed CNY wishes then I would view these two’s actions as trolling.
I don’t know if chinoys really feels unwelcome here since parang part na sila ng country dahil ang dami na nila here. Lol. But I don’t want to invalidate his feelings since I didn’t experience naman what he’s been through.
ReplyDeleteWrong display of patriotism naman kasi yung dalawa. Yung intention nila was to mock their neighbor celebrating chinese new year.
Ricky Gervais: “Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right”
ReplyDeleteMay good luck arrive at these doors each year. And may all things be gradually fulfilled to your heart’s desires - yan ang meaning ng nakasulat sa Pinto nila! E kadi nga Chinese New year like last week ba diba no harm done
ReplyDeleteNakakahiya itong sina ellen
DeleteOr baka wala talaga silang alam, di sila aware na chinese new year? Mukha namang walang alam ang mag asawang derek at ellen..
True wala silang alam kundi mag landian at mag harutan.
ReplyDeletePanoorin mo muna. The intention was in bad taste. Nasa Pilipinas tayo malamang watawat natin tamang ilagay. But they were mocking their chinese neighbor's chinese signs celebrating a tradition. Watch ka muna bago kuda. - filipino chinse girl here :)
DeleteOk derek walang tanggalan ah? Panindigan hanggang 2024 ang banner.
ReplyDeleteHis friends with Donalyn. He's a UP Grad but unfortunately, like the rest of influencers he's out for clout. What's wrong with Pinoys putting up their flag in their homes? Has he been to US where many put flags in their porch?
ReplyDelete11:56 It depends on why he put the flag up. Is it for patriotism, or just to mock their chinese neighbor who were celebrating chinese new year (and thus the chinese phrases displayed)?
Delete12:43 so without a doubt you know their true intention? Psychic ka?
DeleteWhat do you think was the intention?
DeletePano nyo nalaman ung intention? Tinanong nyo ba sina derek?
Delete11:56, was the flag displayed whole year round like people in US do it or was it just displayed recently because of what the neighbor displayed?
Deletelegally, can they do this sa flag? ung nakadikit sa wall? at malapit nang lumapat sa sahig?
ReplyDeleteWhy? Its the Philippines, so we are allowed to post our flag, its not a big deal and as far as I know, Chinoys are well off than the majority of Filipinos. Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteBut their intention is to mock their neighbor.
Deletemarried to a Chinese. there’s a reason kung bakit ang richest pinoys are Chinese. ibang iba ang mentality nila, hindi tamad and really smart sa business. like wow
ReplyDeleteAnong konek baks?
DeleteIm a Chinoy pero I dont see anything wrong sa ginawa ni Derek. Nasa Pinas lang sila for business and convenience.
Pang mock, parang ganun. Eh ang nakasulat lang naman dun is in celebration of chinese new year.
Daming alam
ReplyDeleteEllen is Filipino Chinese?
He confirmed it many times at may Philippine passport siya.
ReplyDeleteHong Kong siya and my Philippines passport siya
DeletePinanood nyo ba video? Zinoom kasi yung Chinese display nung kapitbahay while they’re showing off the PH flag. Obvious naman may meaning.
ReplyDeleteAgree
DeleteAnong meaning? And why do you think putting up a flag means showing off?
Delete12:28 ang dense mo naman. It’s not showing off. It’s like rubbing it in your face or like pataasan ng ihi ganon.
DeleteI'm Chinoy and I also speak Bisaya. Ellen said something to the effect na "Look at Derek (zooming in) cause the Chinese is driving him crazy". No issues with him putting up the Philippine flag per se, but his intention to mock his neighbour who is just celebrating his heritage.
DeleteDami namang echos.
DeleteKung “china rules” ang nakasulat, by all means tapatan niyo ng flag. Pero something harmless like chinese wishes, tatapatan ng flag? How childish. Sabagay, obvious naman sa mga pinapakita nilang videos how immature they are
ReplyDeleteWala daw syang dugong pinoy. Foreigner sya. Sya dapat mag adjust. Pilipinas to, malamang kahit saan makakakita ka ng watawat
DeleteAnyone care to translate the Chinese chatacters? Baka naman fan sign for Derek. “Wo ai ni Derek!” 🫶🏻
ReplyDeleteRough translation: “May good luck arrive at these doors each year. And may all things be gradually fulfilled to your heart’s desires”
DeleteHahaha lakas tawa ko sayo baks😂
DeleteWala naman atang Pinoy blood yan. Alam ko HK o Taiwanese parents niya, di nga mainland China e. Naging Pinoy lang dahil dito nanirahan at nag-aral.
He holds a Philippine passport.
There is nothing wrong with hanging a Filipino flag but it's their intention behind it that makes it petty. You can hear Ellen laughing pa and commenting to the effect that he is doing it "because the Chinese is driving him crazy". The neighbour just pasted couplets which contain wishes for prosperity in the new year, something that they are also entitled to do to celebrate their heritage.
ReplyDeleteYes it's petty but it's still his right to choose whether to ignore it or not ignore it though. To me, I don't find a problem with this but what I find problem with is when somebody dictate somebody to do what he wants just because that's how he feels. Everybody has freedom of expression/speech but our rights does not extend to forcing other people to 'do' what we want because it violates their freedom of expression/speech. As long as there is no tangible damage, I have no problem with it.
DeleteBaka naman mainlanders yun neighbors nila? Iba ang chinoy sa mainlander.
ReplyDeleteMainlanders or hindi, he shouldnt mock the chinese tradition of putting up chinese couplets.
Deleteit's not about displaying the flag. you can display the Philippine flag whenever you want. it was their way of displaying it na obviously to compete with the display of their neighbor of for the Chinese new yr celebration. yes they can ALWAYS display the flag. But they've been at the house for a long time. Why now? Dont tell me they suddenly felt patriotic because someone is celebrating Chinese new yr in front of their house. Halatang nang aasar lng. and it's way more disrespectful for our flag to be used for something like that.
ReplyDelete1228. well said. so true.
DeleteFinally, someone gets it! Perfect score ka classmate
Delete12.28 You already said it yourself that they can 'always' display the flag 'whenever' they want, so why do you still have to ask 'why now'? Always means all the time. Whenever means at whatever time. You are hating that's why you did not understand you said. So there.
DeleteContradicting ka 12:28. Sabi mo, "you can display the Philippine flag whenever you want" pero kapag Lunar New Year hindi pwede? Bakit?
DeleteIt appeared that way to me as well. I say 'appeared' because I wouldn't know if Ellen & Derek do tend to regularly show patriotism and love for country. Basta ang dating sa akin was, there was a bit of an effort too call attention to themselves and that they were going for reactions and publicity.
Deleteyung mga tao dito di naiisip the obvious malice that derek ramcey's video shows. oo nga normal lang maglagay ng Philippine flag and placing one a labas ng bahay mo does not mean you're being unwelcome to Chinoys pero obvious naman na may ulterior motive sina Derek with placing the flag while also showing yung chinese characters sa likod. Malamang may hidden meaning that makes Chinoys feel unwelcome.
I would not find it an issue if I regard myself as Filipino.
ReplyDeleteung intentions ang offensive kasi may gustong patunayan
DeleteDid you watch the video?
DeleteSome chinoys thought they are not welcome?? May kakilala pa ako parents did not support the marriage ng son nila sa pinay kaya walang gift or anything while yung bro nya chinese din napangasawa binigyan ng bagong house. So sino ang di welcoming?
ReplyDeleteOuch!!
Hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteFor the clout lang tong tao na to.
Whatelse do we expect with this couple? Money can't buy class. Rooting for them to stay together forever as they are made for each other.
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely nothing wrong in putting a flag outside your house, just like what americans do. But, the intention is clear. It is to mock, to provoke, which is not right. #theAYABAngers
Lol
ReplyDeleteBut really, I also don‘t like my neighbors. 🫢
Respect other people's culture. By putting a flag in front with the intent of mocking the chinese display, it is disrespecting the chinese culture. They are educated people who lives in a rich subdivision. If they have issues with their neighbors, they should discuss matters with the association.
ReplyDeleteI am a chinoy and i felt offended.
How did the 'putting a Philippine flag' disrespected chinese culture? People can put the flag anywhere they want! You cannot dictate people to put the flag on the location you want! If you are offended by their choices, that's your problem. I'm sorry but you cannot dictate people to follow your likes just because that is how you feel. Gamutin mo 'yang sarili mong damdamin, dahil wala kang karapatang ipagamot ito sa iba by asking them to kowtow you. Sila nga nagrant ba sila sa socmed nung may chinese characters silang hindi mabasa at maintindihan? No. They dealt with it and just put a flag. Wow. You feel so special.
Oo may halong kalokohan kasi mga loko-loko sila eh! pero hindi na ito worth it i-bash noh! walang nabastos. kung merun man, ano bang malay natin baka kaaway tlga nila yan or baka yung kapitbahay nila ang racist. that was just a small video pinapalaki niyo!
DeleteThe culture that 12:54 is talking about is the celebration of the Chinese New Year. It its a norm that Chinese would decorate their houses with decors stating good wishes.
Ang labas tuloy kinukutya nila yung sine-celebrate ng neighbor nila and that is disrespectful.
walng msama sa ginawa nila..yung gnawa nila sa vid ang medyo offensive. c ellen tlg nilalabas nya ang kbaliwan ng mga jowa nya like jl before vinideo na lasing
ReplyDeleteIt's a chinese sign that says about prosperity kasi nga chinese new year wala naman harm done, bakit need pa may pa ganyan, anyway your house your rules naman
ReplyDeleteWala din harm na may ph flag. Nasa pinas tayo.
DeleteIt is their right as Filipinos to display the Philippine flag in the Philippines but it is the malice behind doing it that is offensive.
DeleteChinese new year po kasi?
DeleteRespect other people's culture. Same goes with the japanese.
Delete10:59 so why is Derek the only one getting the flak for hanging the Philippine flag in the Philippines?
Da who si koya? Mind your own business kasi. Your house, your rules
ReplyDeleteI agree.Pakialaman nya sarili niya.Do not impose values on others.
DeleteIt doesnt matter who he is, but he represent the voice of people who are utterly disgusted by the insensitivity of the Ramseys
Yet ignorance is not an excuse for making fun at other people's culture. Its like bullying in high school.
Harmless ba or mockery?
Deletethey are mocking their neighbors out of ignorance. kaya madaming nag react.
Deleteexactly!
DeleteIt is not a simple video. It is a video mock the culture and tradition of other people. This is simply disrespectful and deserved to be called out. Or else we will raising the next generation with this bastos behavior. In a generation where people push for equal rights for lgbtq, dapat lang na alam nila na ang ibang kultura ay may karapatdapat na respeto rin.
Delete11:01 Na-analyze mo agad with that video alone? Mocking the culture and tradition agad? WOW. Ang taba ng utak mo girl! Hahahaha
DeleteI’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. We don’t know the full story, baka funny banter lang yan or may alitan, who knows? Pero hanging the flag is not offensive. If you take offense of seeing our own flag in the Philippines then you’re the problem.
ReplyDeleteDi ba chinoy yung asawa ni Derek? Bakit sya na offend sa culture my misis nya?
ReplyDeleteHUH? You are in the Philippines and that is our national flag...if you think that is not respecting your kind then go to whatever else country you want. Here in the US we have US flag and the neighborhood most of them has it too. The Mexicans or any other race dont tell them they are disrespecting them because its their country and they have the right to do that. Kakagigil ka!!
ReplyDeleteI really don't like this couple. Negative talaga ang dating nilang dalawa.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think they mean to offend the neighbour, Ellen has Chinese blood, her mom is a Go
ReplyDeletePogo yung nakatira kasi dun. Renting lang
ReplyDeletego go derek! proud pinoy, para sa pilipinas
ReplyDeleteDi ba she comes from a Chinese family din?
ReplyDeleteSo I guess Pinoys in other countries should not talk, write, or speak in Filipino. In short, Pinoys in other countries should not be Pinoys?
ReplyDeleteMy parents have a Philippine flag up in front of their house all year round. No biggie.
ReplyDeleteKey words “all year round”. That makes the difference.
DeleteMga Americans dito sa US nagdidisplay ng flag because of patriotism, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day.
Not really one to comment about social media posts, neither am I a fan - but I take exception with this one, really, what is wrong with displaying a Philippine Flag in our own country ? and this made me think I should probably also start displaying our flag proudly--
ReplyDeleteRichard Juan is a Filipino.
ReplyDeleteYou said you are Pinoy but you got offended with the Philippine flag? Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteDerek was obviously mocking. You can hear it as Ellen spoke in the video. Anyways, mga ogobsh ning duha. Money cannot buy class.
ReplyDeleteAs a Chinoy.... all I can say to Richard Juan is... GIVE ME A BREAK! Can u imagine someone who get triggered seeing a the Philippine flag while living in the Philippines? Second what flag would like to put in? China or Taiwan mamili ka muna! But while ur at it LEAVE THIS COUNTRY utang na loob!
ReplyDeleteBig deal. Here in Canada you see Canada flags in some houses (porch, balcony). Just being proud of your country, nothing wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteWhat’s the big deal. Just being proud of your country. I don’t see anything wrong.
