  1. Totoo rin naman her face is not pang big star, di pang bida, di bankable, ganun talaga dito real talk lang, di sa nilalait ko sya because she said it herself

    1. And you think there’s nothing wrong with that fact?

      Delete

      Delete
    3. 1:33 anon. Di mataas ang standards ng filipino when it comes to talent. If that's the case,Dolly would've been a big stat a long time ago. Talent wasted. Puro naman kasi loveteam inaatupag...Looks, sure. Gusto ng mga pinoy ang mga puti ang skin but beauty is very subjective.

      Delete
    4. 1:33 teh, sa itsura lang, hindi sa talent. Dahil kung sa talent, why did it take a foreign award giving body to notice her acting talent?

      Delete

Cause we know ham actors
with looks trump the goods ones.

      Delete
    7. 1:33 itsura yes mataas standard Pero talent jusmi, mag isip isip ka, saang kuweba or bundok ka ba nagtago???

      Delete

This is what sets the industry back. Obviously talent should take precedence, itsura is icing on the cake nalang. We miss opportunities to discover brilliant talents because of this shallow standard. It's pathetic, really

      Delete
    10. 1150 I remember Andrew E lamenting about how German Moreno chose Donita Rose over him despite her having no talent whatsoever.

      Delete
    11. 1:48 di sapat ang talent to make it big, it's a combination of bankability, itsura, marketing, talent, appeal, karisma marami pang iba, backer, management support, network support

      Remember it's show BUSINESS

      Delete
    12. From an actor’s POV, that is very wrong, but you also have to consider the POV of the guy who’s financing the film whose goal is to make something of his investment.

      Delete

      Delete
    15. our mga manonood are personality-based... basta idol nila kikita regardless kung magaling or hindi... sa europe and hollywood though not all but the best films tend to look at the talent to act. Secondary lang ang face. Hindi pa mature ang moviegoers sa pinas.

      Delete
    16. let's face the sad reality of Philippine Showbiz. Yung ganitong dating like Ms Dolly De Leon.Minsan pang extra na lang ang nararating. Or mapapanood mo man, ay sa Indie film nababagay.

      Delete

      Delete
    18. mababa ang standards ng entertainment industry dito. networks, producers, etc...bank on talentless love teams or pabebeng artista na halfie kaysa bigyan ng opportunity yung magagaling. for example na lang si therese malvar. one of the best talents sa gma pero hindi mabigyan ng bida role. yung mga artista nilang walang kalatoy-latoy umarte eh nagiging bida.

      Delete
Kung meron man eh sobrang konti. Parang dito rin sa Pinas at most countries. Bea, Angelica, Angel, Jodi, Kathryn etc yan ang mga counterparts nila dito or at least nung hey day nila.

    3. Pareho silang galing ng Dulaang UP. Graduate ng UP Theater

      Delete
    4. In fairness kay Irma Adlawan, she gets bigger roles and narerecognize naman sya. I remember she was nominated against Ate Vi pa nga for Best Actress.

      Delete
    5. same argument. The likes of Dolly, Irma Adlawan are character actress material. They are not the lead stars pero supporting characters.

    6. And Ms Ana Abad Santos ba yun? Napapansin na rin sya now.

      Delete
    2. 12:07 no, sa korea talent muna.

      Delete
    4. 1:25 so ganun din, looks still matter. Paano kung ayaw magparetoke?

      Delete
    5. @1:25 ok k lng?

      Delete
    6. @1:25 Nye, Lee min ho is a mediocre actor pero sikat. At mrami png gnyan sa Korea. D lng sa Pinas no!

      Delete
    7. 1:25 looks is very important to the Korean society. Almost all the celebrities and ordinary talents had undergone cosmetic surgery. Actually cosmetic surgery or enhancements is a must in their society. Usually is done before going to senior high school.

      Delete
    8. 12:07 sorry pero hollywood actors are still miles better than koreans. most hollywood actors are actually graduates of prestigious acting schools and aside from acting they can sing too kaya may mga iba nga diyan kaya mag musical. yung iba naman can write and direct other projects and still act. and most of all they don't need surgeries to get a big break. timing is key.

      Delete
    9. 12:07 TAPOS IRE RETOKE DIBA? bec talent is not enough LOL

      Delete

      Delete
    11. 1:59 Not everyone does method acting though.

Pareho kayong mali ni 1:25 to say that Korea is better than the US (and vice versa) because they value talent more than looks. Minsan looks talaga ang unang hinahanap. Real talk.

That's why we have character actors. Those who may not be charismatic or attractive enough to land the leading role but could act circles around the main star.

      Delete
    12. 1:07 youre wrong.

Just take a look kay Hwasa ng Mamamoo. Pure talent tlga. Maraming nagsasabing hndi sya maganda and hndi pasok sa beauty standard, but she prove to everyone na hndi kailangan magparetoke para maging sikat

      Delete

      Delete
    14. 1:25 Hindi all the time may pa-audition sa Hollywood. May mga A-List na automatic kinukuha kasi they can bring in the money of their fans. Check mo film packaging, etc. in Hollywood. Kaso ang maganda dun, kahit hindi mag-audition, most A-Listers there are talented, hardworking, and worthy of their fame,

      Delete
    15. 9:59 unfortunately, thats the case sa Pinas. Current example ay Dream Maker, ung show n ala making kpop group chenes. Halos lahat talentless, ung konting meron puro mediocre nman. Gahd, pinas is really hopeless.

      Delete
    16. 10:54 the producers have their first choice but they still have to audition. Kahit nga sa marvel may pa audition pa rin and they get cast sa 2nd or 3rd call back pa lang

      Delete
    17. Not all the time, 2:25. Ask film industry people who work in Hollywood. May packaging kasi need sugalan isang project (usually mga book adaptations). Uso rin palakasan dun and not everything nadadala sa talent. Because if that were the case, hindi kukuning actors mga famous Tiktokers nila dun.

      Delete

      Delete
    19. 12:12 Exagg naman nito. Di kagandahan si Gyojin pero talented naman. Saka the difference here and there is may PR training at natural na class gumalaw ang mga entertainers nila, dito kulang sa PR.

      Delete
  4. Kahit saan naman eh. Even in Hollywood. If you don't have the face, then you need the charisma. If you don't have both, then sorry.

    ReplyDelete

      Delete
    2. 12:09 like who? why do you think so many shows get cancelled in Hollywood? because talent isn't enough. kung walang charm ang artista mo, wala kang fan service in short di ka sikat why would advertisers/producers fund your project? ano balik sa kanila? show business is still a BUSINESS

      Delete
    3. 12:03 2:06 nah, mas talent based din. Hindi naman sumisikat mga pabebe actors sa hollywood na puro face value lang. you need both, looks and talent and above that charisma and x-factor.

      Delete
And a lot of Asian na may role sa mga series and movies wala pa akong Piolo level na nakita and I watch a lot of series and movies. 5 years na akong naka maternity leave eh. 😂 Even Jokoy is not really mabenta looks in the Phil, sa true lang. Lol

      Delete
    5. True, tingin ko d nagmamater yung looks dun..as long as may talent at pasok face mo sa character na iniimagine nla for the character, dun sla...kaya nga dba yung ibang Pinoy artists na magaganda/gwapo nagtatatry sa hollywood d masyaopng pinapansin kasi ganda/gwapo lang, walang talent d pumapasa kasi normal face nlng sla dun sa dami ng magaganda at gwapo..

      Delete
Do you think people like Simu Liu and Akwafina that much? Beautiful and handsome Asians like Henry Golding and Gemma Chan are more noticed. Also, put Pokwang there and you'll notice na kahit lookalikes sila, Lucy can take on femme fatale roles because of her charm and sexiness.

      Delete
    7. Nope 12:03. Have you tried watching European cinema? Andami dun physically hindi perfect (Vanessa Paradis, Nora von Waldstätten, etc) but they are respected actresses in Europe.

      Delete
    8. 12:36 Vanessa Paradis is beautiful. Hindi issue dun 'yung ngipin nya. She's not a good example for what you're trying to argue for.

      Delete
    9. I have to disagree, yes looks are a big factor pero mas ang talent. Hindi ka cguro palanood ng Hollywood movies saka ng mga award shows nila like Oscars. Kse if you are, dapat nakita mo na lahat ng mga winners ng Oscars. Dun pa lang makikita mo na eh.

      Delete
    10. 2:41 I didn't say Vanessa Paradis is unattractive. I said physically not perfect, kasi if Hollywood standards ang basehan eh di perfect dapat ang teeth nya.

Pls re-read my comment. I wasn't arguing. I was trying to share na sa European cinema, the actors and actressess are not drop dead handsome nor gorgeous, nor perfect in terms of physical symmetry, yet they have the charisma and talent.

      Delete
    11. 206 girl, watch 911 series. Even Asian extras sa mga series and movies mukhang mga normal Asian lang tlaga. 😂 And yes, I watch a lot of everything. 😁

      Delete
    12. 6:25 I wasn't arguing din. I said Vanessa shouldn't have been one of the examples you used. Paradis is not a Hollywood actress AND judging by how much her daughter Lily Rose looks like her, panalo rin beauty nya dun. She's constantly praised there everytime name-mention sya (Vanessa). Ang issue is she doesn't directly work there so the Hollywood standards don't apply to her. Besides, if you meet a lot of the beauty standards except one (her teeth,), hindi issue 'yun. It's seen as charming.

You can say America Ferrera, for example. She's not the Hollywood ideal type when it comes to Latinas.

  7. Ang problema din kasi, we don't have enough movies or TV shows na kakaiba ang plot. Kaso even the so-called 'bankable' stars these days, maganda or guwapo lang, wala namang dating at mga talent.

  11. Big factor din kasi yung looks. If walang looks dapat may charm ka man lang, and she lacks it. Walang arrive.

    4. Harsh but true.

    2. She already won awards for this role kaya we need to help hype her up more para nasa radar siya ng Academy aka Oscars.

      Delete
    3. 12:38 acclaa amacanna!

      Delete
    4. Hyping just wont do. The awards' season is brutal and a favorite starting September might wane until January to
March if the studio's promotion isnt backing it up. It helps that her movie is a favorite that will get her on the radar.

However it is a miracle that the HFPA noticed her alongside, say, the cast of Women Talking who as much as Im proud that there's a Filipino in the noms, wala si Claire Foy. Parang mas beneficial if she did interviews on the awards campaign na and hindi na dito. Iintrigahin lang sya dito at iingitin pa.

Critics awards isnt enough to win. Kristin Stewart won almost every award for Spencer. She also needs to court SAG, which is an Oscar precursor. All the best! Gooo!! The Europeans and critics love her performance so syempre ride naman ang media natin.

      Delete
    5. Golden glibe is more pretigious than the oscars like emmy. Oscars is more hyped!

      Delete
    6. Nominated pa lang but it's a big deal of she wins, it will open opportunities

      Delete
    7. She already won some of the awards leading/pre-cursor to these big awards. And this seldom happens. Golden Globes has a history of giving lesser known/newcomers din the award over more know actors e.g. America Ferrera.

Dolly needs the traction. She needs the build up and attention talaga.

  21. Hollywood is also guilty of taking looks, status and so-called charisma over talent. Julie Andrews played Eliza Doolittle in Broadway for 3 yrs so by the time casting for the movie version of My Fair Lady was being made, you'd think she'd get the role. But no,t he producer Jack Warner, thought she wasn't pretty or famous enough, so they offered the role to Audrey Hepburn, who painfully took voice lessons but still had her voice dubbed by the ghost singer, Marni Nixon. Who did the same for Natalie Wood for West Side Story. Same thing here, you would have thought, Rita Moreno would be perfect for Maria. Powerhouse talent, can sing, dance, act and has Puerto Rican roots. But no, not pretty enough to be the lead, so was relegated to Anita role. Luckily for Julie, too, Mary Poppins came along.

Tingnan nyo kapag nanalo yan s Golden Globe the Pinoy Proud hypocrisy lol… totoo din naman sinasabi nya, ganun ang kalakaran s showbiz

    ReplyDelete
  25. This is a harsh reality in Philippine Entertainment Industry. That's why mas sumusugal ang mga film & tv producers, as well as business investors/clients who act as sponsors in creating a film & tv shows sa mga magaganda at gwapo kahit wala namang talent na artista. Dahil mas marami sa kanilang manonood, may profit at may ROI. Maganda/Gwapo/Charismatic > Talented

Anong magagawa natin? Change our perspective sa mga talents. If we'll support them, it will create hype and eventually an opportunity for businesses to invest on them until maging kalevel na rin nila ang mga tinitingalang mga stars ngayon. Sana dumating ang araw na may manonood ng sine/tv show kasi magaling umarte ang aktor/aktress hindi dahil ang cute or maganda/gwapo sila.

  35. Magna-names ako ha for example lang 'to. Kung maglead sa movie ba sina Joj Agpangan at Buboy Villar o kahit si Dolly de Leon mismo at Pen Medina manonood ba kayo? I doubt.

    1. Have you heard Ozark, Breaking Bad and Blacklist? Ang bida dyan mga matatandang guys. 😂 How to get away with M@rder, good girls and a movie Lou - lahat yan middle age to old women ang bida. I am in my early 30s and I love those.

  38. Sadly, hindi na bago ito. But we shouldn't blame those in the industry. As proven by Madam Dolly, hindi naman kulang ang talent ng Pinoy when it comes to acting or even creating stories. It's just that at the end of the day, it's still a business.

And then they ask why do Pinoys prefer Hollywood or Korean stuff. The movers, shakers, and changers in the PH entertainment industry has never elevated their mindset.

  45. Awful movie but Dolly De Leon did a good job

  46. Reminds me how Eugene Domingo had her break when she was matured age already. Sadly if the actor is not of beauty standard (hindi tisay, pango, hindi balingkinitan etc), sumisikat lang sila sa Pinas pag na recognize na overseas

    1. yes si uge talaga yung naiba at sinuwerte. but of course, she deserves it and sana doon pa lang sa success ni eugene eh natuto na yung Philippine entertainment industry and could have given other actors a big break.

No seriously?

  49. Face value kasi ang importante sa showbiz kahit sa hollywood esp sa musical contest..simon won’t give you a break if you lack the charisma to lure the audience!

  50. Censorship kasi ang problema kaya di umaangat ang Filipino artistic scene
