“Squid Game” has made Emmy history with its incredible 14 nominations for the 2022 Emmy Awards!

On July 12 local time, the Emmy Awards officially announced this year’s nominees, and the global phenomenon “Squid Game” racked up an impressive 14 nods that included many of the ceremony’s top awards.

“Squid Game” has become the first non-English language series ever to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmy Awards, going up against popular U.S. shows “Better Call Saul,” “Euphoria,” “Ozark,” “Severance,” “Stranger Things,” “Succession,” and “Yellowjackets.”

Additionally, five “Squid Game” stars were nominated for acting awards, making them the first native Korean actors in history to earn nominations in their respective categories.

Lee Jung Jae is in the running for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Jung Ho Yeon has been nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Park Hae Soo and Oh Young Soo are both in the running for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and Lee Yoo Mi is up for Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk has also become the first native Korean to earn Emmy nominations for directing and writing, snagging nods for both Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

The other awards for which “Squid Game” has been nominated this year include Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (One Hour), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode, and Outstanding Stunt Performance.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of “Squid Game” on their historic nominations!

    1. Glad they gave Bob Odenkirk's character in Breaking Bad a spin-off series. Loved him in that show!

  15. I find this overrated. And meron kasi syang same or parang kinopya talaga dun na korean series din na una ko napanood kya not new na yung storyline for me. Swerte lang na ito yung na overhyped

    1. Overrated? I don't think so. The storytelling and acting were really good. Overhype is making exaggerated claims. What most people said about this show (and I'm talking about globally) were true.
People who find it overrated are those who are irked that they weren't able to see it first before everyone else. Minsan talaga ayaw mo ng panoorin ang isang palabas kapag marami ng nakapanood. Feeling mo di ka cool.

  18. Meh. It's either Better Call Saul or Ozark for me.

  19. ok lang. maganda naman yung series pero di ganun ka outstanding. Mas madami pang magagandang series sa ibang bansa or even sa korea. Overhyped lang talaga ito and Emmy needs an audience kaya Asian baiting muna.

  20. Yes !!! K series fan here

  21. It's good but definitely not better than the other nominees, imo. Succession or Better Call Saul for me. Sa cast ng Succession, walang tapon.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, they just needed the non-Western token nominations hence they needed this overrated series to be added to the mix. Succession will still win in the end.

  23. Sige na Emmy’s gamitin nyo na Asian para mapag-usapan ulit kayo.
