Recovery from alcoholism is lifelong, and the risk of relapse is high. Sometimes, a stint in rehab or a religious conversion are not enough to "change" a person with addictions. If there are underlying psychiatric issues that led to the alcoholism (trauma, anxiety, etc), these also have to be treated intensively during and after rehab. Triggers for the urge to drink can potentially be anything, as long as these are associated with the memory of drinking. Jamie should have known these, having worked as a rehab counselor herself. Dating and marrying him was a huge risk, for herself and her innocent children.
