I don't understand why it would take this long for the academy to decide how to handle this. There is no gray area. It's a physical assault that was caught on film followed by a verbal assault. Then he refused to leave when asked. Justice should have been swift. It would have sent a message to everyone.
If it wasn't Chris Rock who's smaller than him, would he slap someone like Ricky Gervais who's more brutal with his jokes? Will was feeling entittled the whole night, he knew he will win the award. Hollywood should cancel him to teach him a lesson
