Cheslie Kryst, who won the Miss USA crown in 2019, is dead after a Sunday morning fall from her high-rise home in New York City ... TMZ has confirmed.

NYPD responded to a 911 call at 7:13 AM to Cheslie's midtown apartment building on 42nd Street. Officers and paramedics responded, but she was pronounced dead on the scene. Police are investigating, but they believe Cheslie -- who lived on the 9th floor -- jumped from high up in the building.

She was last seen on a 29th-floor terrace of the building ... according to the NY Post, which was first to report Cheslie's death.

Just a few hours before she died, Cheslie posted a photo of herself on Instagram with the caption, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”

Kryst took home the top honors at the Miss USA pageant back in 2019 as Miss North Carolina. She was an attorney, and after winning the title, she also worked as a correspondent for Extra.

She used her Miss USA platform to speak out about social and criminal justice reform. She once joined us on "TMZ Live" to discuss that very topic.

She reportedly left a note Sunday morning, stating she was leaving all her belongings to her mother. Her family released a statement saying, "Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined."

The family added, "Most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague -- we know her impact will live on."

Cheslie was just 30 years old.

RIP

  1. You can't really tell if a person is going through something unless they tell it, this is so sad

    2. My husband suffered from General anxiety last year maybe due to the stress brought about by the pandemic. Ang daming naubos na pera but thank God he is now healed pero grabe ang pagsubok. Mabuti nalang we are very close kaya napagtulungan naming labanan. Ang hirap intindihin talaga I never knew it was real til it happened to us. Nakakatakot at nakakapagod. Praying for everyone na may pinagdadaanan.

    1. Usually a depressed person are so good in hiding their depression. In america it’s very common to live alone and talking to your family everyday is a rarity, then the next thing you know, someone already committed suicide. Happened to my cousin in law after Xmas… he went to visits all family across the coast just like a normal visit. Then the next thing we know, he shot himself on the chest, left a note, then kaput!

Once hope is gone, everything will falter. Talk to God. Naiintidihan Nya tayo at inaalala Nya rin tayo. Wag sana tayong mawalan ng pag-asa, pananampalataya at pag-ibig.

It’s a chemical imbalance sa brain that needs medication and professional help. Kailangan talaga ma educate ang mga tao about this, ang babaw ng “nalulungkot” lang ang tingen sa depression

    6. 12:24 Let us also not force our beliefs on others.

      Courage, ang light to everyone.

    7. 1:09 maybe 12:38 is fed up with people thinking that depression is just 'malungkot'. Depression is a mental illness. It is NOT a question of faith nor it's just being sad. You can always opt not to comment on something you do not fully understand

    1. She’s a lawyer. I don’t think it’s about goals in life. Maybe she just didn’t want to live anymore. I think andun yun sa suicide letter. Baka they’re not going public with the content. Whatever the reason was, I don’t think she wanted to be saved.

RiP Ms. Kryst I'm so sad with what happened to you.

  16. I read her essay she wrote for Allure in 2021. It feels like she succumbed to the pressures eh. It's so so sad. She wrote about ageism. How society isn't kind to older women. She wrote about the pageants' standards of beauty and the criticisms she had to deal with as the "oldest" winner in history and as a black woman. I think all these are stressors that compounded over time and took a toll on her. It's so sad. Whenever I hear tragic stories like these, i wish the world hadn't created social media or news or unachievable high standards that we impose in our society :(

  17. Ang daming depressed dito sa America. I also went through it after I gave birth dito. It's not just a feeling of loneliness, it's something more deep than that. Yung parang ayaw mo ng gumising at masakit yung katawan mo coupled with mood swings and anxiety. You feel so hopeless. It pays to seek counseling and a support system. RIP Cheslie.

Its different from unhappiness lang. My mom suffered from depression and is taking meds for it. Side effect lang pinatay ng meds ang emotion nya so wala na syang feeling as in parang dead inside ba.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Those medications according to some studies are actually very dangerous, it numb your emotions and you go stale, you move like a zombie . The moment you withdraw from meds, brain will show more damage where patients become more unstable, suicidal if not end up killing others. A neuroscientist recommends slow decrease of dosage. Guys listen up. At first, it’s depression caused by life losses and it only take 6 weeks and a person chemical will change to a permanent mental case. .then you need meds. Shake it off while it is early. Laban sa buhay. We are all in this!

      Delete
    2. Meds help actually- been there. Had to go to a psychiatrist to treat me - she prescribed meds for me and it helped. Plus support from family. I’ve my share of challenges plus the death of my parents contributed to my depression and anxiety. It takes a while for meds to sink in.

      Delete
    3. I have depression. On and off for 30 years now. I resisted the meds kasi I was so scared of losing custody of my kid in case the meds don’t agree with me and made me an even worse basketcase, and I knew having doctors experimenting and/or adjusting would take months if not years—and yun na nga I could lose my child in the process.

I stumbled upon information about magnesium a few years ago. I’m not sure if it’s just placebo effect but I swear I feel better when I religiously take magnesium. It might not be a powerful as meds because I’m still lutang some days, but I am definitely better than circa 10 years ago, considering I’m now pre-menopausal pa! I also recently started having a more Buddhist philosophy. Philosophy lang—I don’t worship Buddha, I worship God pa rin. I think discovering the Buddhist philosophy is in fact God-sent.

    4. I'm like your mom. Took meds for depression and insomnia tapos parang flatline na Ang emotions. Mas mahirap maging masaya pero mas madaling malungkot at umiyak. But it's a million times better than having depressive episodes.

  20. I don’t want to invalidate her death and what she was going through but, it’s not also remiss to look at another angle for the cause of death, esp sa klase ng trabaho nya.

And lasty, 1 Peter 5:7 cast all your anxiety to Him because He cares for you. If naniniwala ung isa na si Lord and makakahelp sakanya at ang hope niya, RESPECT, We can educate without being feeling above that person.
