English is our second language and our medium of instruction in school. It is also our formal language. Our books mostly, that we use in school are in English. Marian is a college graduate with a degree in Psychology. How did she pass with her thesis? Just simple good English are always expected from most Filipinos.
But you cannotforce someone to speak in english. Even SOME germans, despite english as their 2nd medium of language, are having a hard time in speaking in english and prefers to speak their mother tongue. Clearly you are gauging someone's intelligence through fluency in english.
English is our second language because of colonization. English is expected but not a requirement to be a Jusge.
and it shouldn’t be “expected” of us bcoz IT IS our second language ONLY. we should criticize those who claim to be Filipinos but don’t know how to speak our language instead.
She might not be good in english, but she has the life that you don’t have. You think you’re very well in english? Well then, you should have a greater life than hers? Or atleast eating steak in a fancy resto? I bet na ah?!!! 😂
3:37 there are many Filipinos like Marian. So many Filipinos abroad with college degree who have bad grammar and tenses. Let’s not even talk about the pronunciation issue.
3:37 Exactly. She can express her thoughts in English but it is not the language she is comfortable with. Do you know that some people are better in writing than speaking? Her course is Psychology for sure her thesis is about Psychology and not about speaking in a beauty pageant using English. Bottomline the problem is the wannabe Filipinos. Go out the country and you’ll realize it is not all about how you speak in English.
Anon 3:37, in case you’re not aware, written and conversational English are different. There are those who can express themselves better in writing than speaking and vice versa.
3:37 Gurl, have you ever heard of MS Word's auto correction? Also, there are people who are good in writing than public speaking, but there are also few some who can do both. Grammar is not the sole basis for passing the thesis, and thesis is not a one shot deal like an exam there is a thing called revision.
If a person can’t speak fluent english doesn’t mean he can’t write a formal English. Intelligence can’t be measured just by a mere fluency in English but the way the latter can deliver. Even Boy Abunda commended her on how she deliver and respond to questions. It has dept and impact.
@3:37 - For someone acting so critical, then you should be able to tell that Marian has good command of grammar. It's the diction and the pronunciation that she doesn't excel at. So in that regards, your point already doesn't make sense.
Noong nag-aaral ako sa law school, may classmate akong mahilig mag English pero "did you bought" lagi niya sinasabi. Partida, college graduate yun ah.
Not a fan of Marian but itigil na natin ang panlalait at inggit sa kapwa. We should be proud that she was chosen to be one of the judges in the Ms. Universe pageant.
Why are you so hard on her?
Pwede nyo nlang gawin yan pambara sa fantards nya na delusional but not with her. For sure, wla na yang paki c Marian kasi successful na sya nakakastraight English man sya o hindi.
Di ba sya marunong mag english? Maybe she’s not fluent but she can speak english. And di naman sa lahat ng pagkakataon mag eenglish ka just to prove others na you can speak english.’Madami nga magaling dyan magsalita pero sabaw naman context.
La Salle Dasma, Cavite siya grad. Iba sila doon.
Yung formative school years niya from prep to high school ang mas hohone talaga ng english skills niya dapat.
Girl, I grew up watching ABSCBN shows so I’m not familiar with Marian but when I traveled to Vietnam Cambodia Thailand, they only know Marian Rivera and Kathryn Bernardo. It was weird for me but that’s how I knew Marian. They watch her shows
Marian is college graduate. And while that doesn't mean she's good in English, the fact that she finished college means she can at least speak it ("bad" intonation or not).
Mahalata naman agad yung call center agents intonations and grammar. They just got used to it because of speaking it on a daily basis coz it's how they were trained but it does not mean they are smart and true eloquent people.
I love her. Don’t mind those bashers, they’re just jealous of your achievements. A language is just a language and it should never be a gauge of someone’s worth or intellectual capacity.
It might be THE international language but it is NOT the most spoken language in the world. Ergo she was asked to be the judge which obviously doesn’t matter whether she soeaks English well or not. It is her body of work. Case closed.
She's too real for others to deal with. Lalo na sa mga pa sosyal. English is a language/skill you can learn. This is an easy fix. She can always hire a private tutor if she wants? But what for? She's highly educated naman. Can't beat a diploma from la salle compared to a person who can speak english fluently but has no depth.
😂 Then, good for her. Lol
La Salle is one of the premier universities here and many of its students and graduates speak more and well in English. By the way, how fid Marian defend her thesis.
7:26am, she's not one of the contestants so it wouldn't matter. I'm sure she'd ask questions based on the script. By the way, not all DLSU grads are English proficient. Dont question marian on how she got her diploma it has no bearing at all on her being Ms U judge and she will be there in Israel not you. She may not be fluent in english, shallow as some may say of her, but she has a 9 digit savings in her bank account. How about you?
Anon 257am. Umasenso sa buhay si Marian inday. If you earned millions, you sure you won't buy high-end products?😂😂😂 pilipinas is kulelat when it comes to english proficiency? HAHAHA. YOU'RE clearly ignorant. You have NO IDEA. I live in CA which is one of the most diverse place on the planet..come over here and see for yourself hahahahha..
Aside from being an actress, top endorser and a huge social media following(#1 on facebook), she is actually one of the first ambassadors of Smile Train in the Philippines. May tanong pa po?
7:30am yes may tanong pa. Kasi ano ang body of work niya as an actress? Kasi parang chineck ko sa filmography niya wala siyang iconcic films or roles aside from marimar. Sana di na lang sinabi as an actress kasi mas celeb influencer at endorser talaga ang focus ng career niya. So ayun gusto ko lang po maliwanagan
Thank you 8:45 for explaining for 5:40. God, these people! They are mocking Marian for using “body of work”, sila pala ang hindi nakakaintindi ng meaning nun. Shame!
what problematic views are you talking about?
5:23, I think what 2AM meant was improve on her english proficiency, not her life, hence, the reference to Sarah G. Kalma ka lang po, no need to go into other details of her life.
Our medium of instruction is basically in English as most of our school books are in English. This is more expected if one studied in a private school.
Shes just but a pretty face. She cant even act. Thanks to iconic darna, marimar at dingdong!
Di naman kasi yung English ang concern ng netizens kundi yung intellect and level of conprehension. Kahit judge sya at di naman contestant, in a way representative din sya ng Pinas. Whatever she says, nakakabit name ng Pinas dun
As if kinaganda ng buhay nila ang pagiging grammar nazi.
at di college graduate si juday pero nagsikap matuto, mas nakakabilib yung di college graduate pero nagsisikap matuto kesa yung college graduate pero di marunong mag ingles
While hindi natin primary language ang English, somehow it is expected of us, especially, when we are 2nd to India sa paningin ng mundo, when it comes to our ability for good conversational english (remember the time na nag-boom ang BPO industry because of that).
If she doesn’t see the need to improve herself then that’s her choice. Not tard haha
Mukhang affected siya at nasa stories pa nya yung sinabi nya rin lol Dami kasing resibo noon about her pronounciation sa English sa pagkanta at mga interviews...then she became the wife of Dong, Atenista at maayos mag Ingles. So si Dong, mapagpanggap kasi Inglesher? hehehe
Yung bashers bastos na talaga yun pero learning curve na rin actually ito sa kanya if she took it constructively and tried to improve through the years. Kaya naman nya, LaSalle graduate siya after all.
Go girl! Have fun in israel marian. 🙏🙏🙏
Hugs, I feel you.
6:34am, you shouldnt feel that way. Tell yout interviewer that you aren't that good in communicating using the English language but you'll be good in time. The corporate world isn't just for the english speaking people and among the graduates of top universities. I'm sure you're brilliant and you can top that
I don't understand how some people focus on the small stuff. Look at how she handled and is.handling her life. Took care of her family, worked hard and had shows that toppled the competition, kinasal sa binatang matagal nyang naging bf, kinasal ng hinde buntis, has given birth to 2 beautiful babies, and knows how to run her household. Tapos Ingles napuna ng mga trolls? Sana kasing husay ng buhay nyo buhay nya.
LOL! So low and so pathetic mga bashers.
She's now just projecting and these things are somewhat what she should have told herself from the start. She should have been true to herself from the beginning but these luxury posts and her fans putting her in a pedestal that she's perfect became her downfall. I'm not a fan of the other actress but when people told her that she was "maarte," she owned it. Marian should have done the same, hindi na sana ipinilit.
This is what the Miss Universe org wants and needs: clout, noise, critiques, controversy, headline, etc. Now, millions will watch it with hawk eyes on pageant night. Bravo organizers! 👏👏👏
Human nature - being judgemental! Nobody's perfect. Always remember God will not give everything we wanted. Language is just a language, the level of ability cannot just be measured through speaking particularly in english language. If a person were born Filipino then do not expect too much, although we were taught since elementary. Being excellent in English cannot be measured just through speaking but also comprehensions and writing. Some people have the ability and confidence of speaking english some people don't. And to those who don't speak english it doesn't mean they don't understand english. I was born Filipino, and live in Australia but here no one cares about grammar as long as you can express what you mean. *Note I guess judgemental people cares.
Ganito kasi ang utak pinoy :) They love good packaging kahit di naman maganda yung nilalaman :) Good example nito yung mga tagliserong hilaw :) When you listen to what they are saying, wala naman laman :) Maganda lang pakinggan :) Para siyang elevator music :) It has a catchy tune pero walang kuwenta ang lyrics :D :D Gets mo na? :D
Jusko mga pinoy, binabash talaga yung tao dahil sa bad grammer at diction nya, eh kayo marunong ba mag Spanish? Standard ba yung english sa katalinohan? Jusko! Multilingual yung binabash nyo uy, mahiya kayo
ayos yung "my body of work" 😂😂😂 wow! naloka ako! parang nora aunor levels lang 🤣 sino kayang nag pitch in na sabihin nya yan. yung ibang beteranang beauty queens and celebrities wont even dare say that. hehe
You cant question somebody else's education why she even pass her thesis! You cant judge a person who preffered to speak on her own language not becuz shes not smart but she is comfortable to speak in tagalog atleast not pretending to be englisera like others... there is nothing wrong to be honest! And thats marian!!! Legit not pretender!
May englisera nga mali mali naman. Bago matapos ang sentence daming you know, ahhh, hmmmm. Bawat bigkas ng english susunod agad taglish. Most speak plain English no depth at all.

ReplyDeleteEnglish is THE international language and many people of Israel speak English.
DeleteIt might be THE international language but it is NOT the most spoken language in the world. Ergo she was asked to be the judge which obviously doesn’t matter whether she soeaks English well or not. It is her body of work. Case closed.
Delete"hindi ako mapagpanggap". Burn.
ReplyDeleteShe's too real for others to deal with.
Lol
DeleteHow did she defend her thesis? Isn't La Salle a good school where English is the prime language?
DeleteTrue yan 1:45. Maraming akala mo fluent pakinggan pro "should of" ang gamit instead na "should have".
DeleteLa Salle is one of the premier universities here and many of its students and graduates speak more and well in English. By the way, how fid Marian defend her thesis.
Delete7:26am, she's not one of the contestants so it wouldn't matter.
DeleteShe went to La Salle-Dasmariñas, not DLSU-Manila. It is the latter which is in the list of the top universities in the Philippines.
DeleteAnon 257am.
DeleteWhat is this “body of work” she’s talking about??
ReplyDeleteSuper Nanay isa dun sure ako
Delete1:48 I am also puzzled by that.
DeleteThere's this thing called google
Deletemy thoughts exactly!🤣
DeleteMaybe she meant,"line of work??"
Hay nku, minsan lang mag banyaga, sablay pa. Purong tagalog nalng kc, wag kanang mag tag lish queen kuno
Knowing her she probably meant ung literal na katawan nya kasi seksi daw at she worked hard for it.
DeleteThe charities and organizations she’s part of.
DeleteMarimar, Dyesebel etc.
DeleteActing and entrepreneurship
Delete1:48 I am also puzzled by her statement
Delete@5:40 teh. Umagang umagang bitter ah. Hahaha
DeleteAside from being an actress, top endorser and a huge social media following(#1 on facebook), she is actually one of the first ambassadors of Smile Train in the Philippines. May tanong pa po?
DeleteAteng 5:40, that you don't understand (and even scoff at) "body of work" shows you're not as eloquent in the English language as you think you are :)
DeleteLine of work - profession; specific job that you do at any given time
Body of work - your total output of work as an artist
G?
7:30am yes may tanong pa. Kasi ano ang body of work niya as an actress? Kasi parang chineck ko sa filmography niya wala siyang iconcic films or roles aside from marimar. Sana di na lang sinabi as an actress kasi mas celeb influencer at endorser talaga ang focus ng career niya. So ayun gusto ko lang po maliwanagan
DeleteThank you 8:45 for explaining for 5:40. God, these people! They are mocking Marian for using “body of work”, sila pala ang hindi nakakaintindi ng meaning nun. Shame!
Kaya deserve natin ang third world country. AHAHAHAHAHAHA
ReplyDeleteTotoo. Hay nako pinas, you can't win with these haters.
ReplyDeleteCan you cite that "problematic views" you were referring with?
Deletewhat problematic views are you talking about?
DeleteAno pinag sasabi mo problematic views and actions dapat I call out? Maraming ka work niya nagmamahal s kanyan fyi
DeleteProblematic views? Like what po?
DeleteSample naman dyan ng problematic views and actions. As far as i know, isa siya sa hindi mapag patol sa issues.
DeleteShe knows how to speak and write in English gusto nyo lang mga bashers perfect. Let me hear your spoken English skills 😆
DeleteParang hindi yata si Marian tinutukoy mo?
Delete1:53 you are absolutely correct.
DeleteMarian dedma s mga basher.."Wala akong time, Sorry ha. Ako ngayon NASA alapaap...very thankful and honored n nangyayari ito"
Pero it’s not bad rin naman to improve. Parang si Sarah G.
ReplyDeleteDarling, she now has 2 kids, runs multiple businesses and her household, and a showbiz career na sa lagay na yan eh nag-lie low pa siya.
5:23, I think what 2AM meant was improve on her english proficiency, not her life, hence, the reference to Sarah G. Kalma ka lang po, no need to go into other details of her life.
DeleteHindi matalino but nakapag-aral ng mabuti. Our medium of instruction is basically in English as most of our school books are in English. This is more expected if one studied in a private school.
Delete2:12, well, kasi if you don’t have a higher education, most likely you won’t be any good in English, especially speaking. Gets mo baks.
I cannot!
ReplyDeleteYes, wrong is wrong. You need to make it right it. Gets mo.
Shes just but a pretty face. She cant even act. Thanks to iconic darna, marimar at dingdong!
DeleteIndeed!!!!
ReplyDeleteAffected
ReplyDeleteMay limit din ang pasensta ng tao. Sana yung pagiging hater mo may limit din.
DeleteIkaw affected. Hahahah
Deletesobrang affected. nagretaliate siya this time, sa dami ng issues noon, dito pa siya talaga nagreact eh totoo naman.
DeleteShe addressed the issue correctly and nailed it! Ngayon wala kayong maibato, hahaha!
DeleteNganga!
Haters gonna hate!
"NANG naaayon sa nararamdaman ko"
ReplyDeleteDi naman kasi yung English ang concern ng netizens kundi yung intellect and level of conprehension. Kahit judge sya at di naman contestant, in a way representative din sya ng Pinas. Whatever she says, nakakabit name ng Pinas dun
ReplyDeleteLevel of comprehension? Can you expound and give us examples?
ReplyDeleteMay mga anak sya no. And choice nya yun. Wag kang pala-desisyon
DeleteLock in taping for one month or more plus quarantine before and after start ng taping vs. 3 days out of the country plus quarantine pagdating.
ReplyDeleteSi Marian ba naman ang nagpa presscon to announce at nagpa pictorial for press release e. Malamang hype talaga yan
DeleteOf course, once a lifetime LNG Yan..at Hindi niya kasalan kung mas maraming attention s kanyan. Marian is Marian
As if kinaganda ng buhay nila ang pagiging grammar nazi.
anong body of work? baka dahil sa facebook followers, pwede pa.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Wala man lang siyang iconic film or character. Marimar lang. Let's face it. One-hit wonder lang talaga siya. After marimar wala na
DeleteThis!
DeleteWhile hindi natin primary language ang English, somehow it is expected of us, especially, when we are 2nd to India sa paningin ng mundo, when it comes to our ability for good conversational english (remember the time na nag-boom ang BPO industry because of that).
So si Dong, mapagpanggap kasi Inglesher? hehehe
ReplyDeleteHindi atenista si dong. Hindi siya pumasa sa college.
DeleteYung bashers bastos na talaga yun pero learning curve na rin actually ito sa kanya if she took it constructively and tried to improve through the years. Kaya naman nya, LaSalle graduate siya after all.
Goes to show she needs to defend herself pa.
DeleteWe love you Marian!!!
ReplyDeleteGo girl! Have fun in israel marian. 🙏🙏🙏
ReplyDeletewhat the heck is that body of work? lol
ReplyDeleteShe has an impressive body of work on TV. Madami syang shows na matataas ang ratings.
ReplyDeleteHugs, I feel you.
Delete6:34am, you shouldnt feel that way. Tell yout interviewer that you aren't that good in communicating using the English language but you'll be good in time. The corporate world isn't just for the english speaking people and among the graduates of top universities. I'm sure you're brilliant and you can top that
DeleteGuys , fyi Mikee Cojuangco is herself a " conyo " girl but she speaks straight Tagalog during interviews Basta Pilipino Ang nag interview
ReplyDeleteGirl we’re talking about Miss Universe here where you need to ask and interact with others in English! Hindi Sa pinas gagawin ang pageant
Deletenapakadaming English grammar nazi sa Pinas pero sa totoo lang mali mali sa salitang Filipino which is our first language. dapat dun tayo maging concerned.sariling wika na nga mali mali pa. tama si Marian English is our second language naman talaga ginagawa kasing social status ng iba ang pag i-English
ReplyDeleteMarian is a woman of substance and depth.. She is always gracious and sincere..
ReplyDeleteAnong “body of work” tinutukoy niya?
DeleteA-list celeb siya in terms of endorsements.
In denial.
DeleteLol fyi A,list actor siya
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how some people focus on the small stuff.
ReplyDeletePrecisely!
So low and so pathetic mga bashers.
ReplyDeleteBasta I love Marian Rivera. Kaya sya nagustuhan ni Dingdong kasi totoong tao sya at maganda pa.
ReplyDeleteThat’s really embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteSpanish-fil sya fyi bakit ba ipipilit nyo sya mag english???????? Bakit kayo diktador????
She's now just projecting and these things are somewhat what she should have told herself from the start. She should have been true to herself from the beginning but these luxury posts and her fans putting her in a pedestal that she's perfect became her downfall. I'm not a fan of the other actress but when people told her that she was "maarte," she owned it. Marian should have done the same, hindi na sana ipinilit.
ReplyDeleteThis is what the Miss Universe org wants and needs: clout, noise, critiques, controversy, headline, etc.
ReplyDeleteNow, millions will watch it with hawk eyes on pageant night.
ReplyDeleteGanito kasi ang utak pinoy :) They love good packaging kahit di naman maganda yung nilalaman :) Good example nito yung mga tagliserong hilaw :) When you listen to what they are saying, wala naman laman :) Maganda lang pakinggan :) Para siyang elevator music :) It has a catchy tune pero walang kuwenta ang lyrics :D :D Gets mo na? :D
ReplyDeleteJusko mga pinoy, binabash talaga yung tao dahil sa bad grammer at diction nya, eh kayo marunong ba mag Spanish? Standard ba yung english sa katalinohan? Jusko! Multilingual yung binabash nyo uy, mahiya kayo
ReplyDeleteayos yung "my body of work" 😂😂😂 wow! naloka ako! parang nora aunor levels lang 🤣 sino kayang nag pitch in na sabihin nya yan. yung ibang beteranang beauty queens and celebrities wont even dare say that. hehe
ReplyDeletebaka hindi naintindihan meaning ng body of works! dyeske marimar body of works na ba yon? joke of the century!
ReplyDeleteYou cant question somebody else's education why she even pass her thesis! You cant judge a person who preffered to speak on her own language not becuz shes not smart but she is comfortable to speak in tagalog atleast not pretending to be englisera like others... there is nothing wrong to be honest! And thats marian!!! Legit not pretender!
ReplyDeleteMay englisera nga mali mali naman. Bago matapos ang sentence daming you know, ahhh, hmmmm. Bawat bigkas ng english susunod agad taglish. Most speak plain English no depth at all.
ReplyDelete
