  3. Direk, looks like Hollywood propaganda to me. Voir in a nutshell, the movies is the greatest invention since sliced bread.

  4. Why call out SC specifically instead the whole industry as a whole?

They need movies about reality.

    4. Simple, because star cinema leading with big earning movies sa atin, and sila nag trend set. Kaso nga mga pinoy mga pabebe and love story lagi trip.

    4. 5:11 duh ka rin. Viva kaya ang unang sumugal sa kanya. Remember Joyce Jimenez, Albert Martinez and Ekis of Sunshine Cruz? Latter na yung sinasamba mong SC. Kalokang fantard😭

  6. Yes, there should be growth in terms of quality and story of movies produced but knowing the Filipino masa audience they still gravitate towards cheesy rom-com and melodramatic plots. Even Regal keeps on producing their Mano Pos and Shake Rattle & Roll. Also, Erik Matti should check movies released on iwanTFC. There are a lot of quality films and series there not released into mainstream. Maybe he isn't aware of the said streaming platform. Only those who have access to Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Apple & other international streaming are exposed to quality and fresh content while the masa who is the majority of the market still prefers their old movie formula.

    1. Agree ako rito. I'm taking playwright class in school right now and yung prof and classmates ko award winners sa literary contests on stage play pero they tend to write cheesy rom-com for tv networks and films. Iba ang target audience nila for SC. I think kaya nga nagdeviate ang iWantfc (na may good quality heavy series/films) and Black Sheep (under ng SC and semi-indie) kasi they can target a different kind of audience. The Philippine cinema landscape is still growing pero kinoconsider pa rin ang target audience.

    2. It's the media's job to shape the way people think though, and they've been neglecting that job for a while now. Kasalanan din ng media, not just the masses. They can make people consume better content if they put some effort into marketing it, but they don't really want to do that cause ang focus nila is to maximize profit while spending as little as possible. Hindi 100% na magandang example sa context ng pag elevate ng content for the masses but in terms of marketing something that doesn't seem to have value, I think safe to say na magandang example ang mga kpop entertainment companies. Just look at how they've managed to promote yung physical albums ng mga idols nila. CDs are almost obsolete to the point na kailangan mo ng separate na equipment to play it...and sa age ng smartphones qt streaming, who wants to have a bulky CD player lying around? Yet, kpop fans buy these physical albums without hesitation kahit available sa streaming apps yung music ng idols nila, cause the companies make the albums so attractive to the buyer by including different versions ng mga photobooks, posters, stickers, sleek packaging, etc. compared sa mga CDs ng western artists encased in clear cheap plastic. Kpop/western albums could equally be trash or equally be great in terms of content but sa appearance alone, I think the average person would choose to spend their money sa bagay na maganda ang pagkakapresent. My point is, the movie industry is capable of promoting these movies na sinasabi nilang ayaw ng masa dahil depressing or complicated by marketing it in creative ways, but they'd rather not do that since kumikita naman sila sa romcom which I imagine na mura at less time consuming na i-produce compared sa ibang genre na could possibly provide a more enriching experience pero mas maraming manpower, oras, at pera na kailangang gastusin.

    3. You don’t see that as a problem??? SC and the entire industry can mold and shape the taste of the masses. That’s a fact. It’s just that they won’t because it’s a loss sa una and they are not capable of thinking about sa future. They are way too greedy to take that risk.

It’s either that or SC needs to clean house and hire actual capable writers and producers. Baka nepotism lang alam jan kahit walang talent, ipipilit.

New blood kelengan jan. Marami sa mga indie and small networks na unique storylines, pero you know these people won’t be given a chance in SC and other big companies.

Let’s face it, our movie industry is shit. We have no right to criticize others kasi tayo ang pinag-iwanan. The more these egotistic, entitled, ‘leaders’ of the industry think they are high and mighty, the more they are pulling away their audience.

I don’t watch any local productions anymore. They are shit, because talent and vision aren’t rewarded.

I really don’t care if ABS comes back or not. Their production have all been shitty. Hindi kawalan to be honest.

  7. Bakit star cinema lang? Why not the whole movie industry? Viva, Regal, gma films bakit ayaw? Star cinema has always been mainstream, kita ang focus nila

    ReplyDelete
  8. What's with this guy's bitterness towards star cinema? Why single out a film company that's been known for decades for producing films for easy consumption? Si Lav Diaz nga na mas critically acclaimed eh walang ganitong hanash against mainstream. Matti's recent films are also awful, including that much hyped OTJ 2. Btw, if you have 4 hrs to spare and you wanna see a "good" pinoy film go see Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan. Superb in all aspects. 👍

    1. It is what the masses watch. Yun mga film with quality hindi kumita.

    2. 12:45 malaki na nga ang nag improve. Have you watched those made in the 60s and 70s sobrang sama. Yun mga artista karamihan, walang dating. Even yun Sampaguita and LVN though the latter made better movies. Maganda lang yun mga artista but the casting and production designs were so n so. And they didn't have acting workshops. It only started to improve because of Lino Brocka and Co.

      Delete
He should have addressed the whole industry di yung isa lang.

      Delete
    4. 8:11 Are we living on the same era? Because as I remember, meron na Lamberto Avellana, Manuel Conde, Gerry de Leon, Jose Nepomuceno na gumagawa ng de kalidad na movies at may international audience at accolades pa. Walang dating mga artista? Then sino sina Amalia Fuentes, Susan Roces, Charito Solis, etc na at some point, muntik nang magkaroon ng Hollywood career? Si Amalia na kinikilalang Most Beautiful Actress in Asia. Mataas pa respeto sa atin ng Hollywood community sa film industry natin at that time at kaya pa natin magcompete sa other Asian countries in film output. Uso pa noon mga comedies na may sense at sophistication. Dont compare movies of today to the movies of that era na kung saan pati A crowd nakipagcompete pa sa mass crowd movie audience.😭😢

      Delete
    5. 8:11. How dare you compare the movies now from the 60s to the 70s. Naging tisay lang due to gluta. Simple scripts before are much better than the usual nonsense, LT pabebe scripts nowadays.

Kaya nga may cinema one festival, they encourage them to create
    New ideas..hindi kinakagat mg masa.

But remember that entertainment is also an escape out of reality. Minsan after a stressful day gusto ko na lang manood ng sitcom or kvariety. Once in a while lang siguro ako manood ng ganitong movie.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Tama naman sya. Di puro basurang movies lalo na pag pasko.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Pare pareho naman kayong lahat. Ang dudugyot ng mga pelikula niyo. Literal talaga. Ang dudugyot. Puro nasa squatter yung plot. Mga kwento niyo paulit ulit. Drugs, korapsiyon, kapokpokan, simpleng love story. Jusko

  25. The masses gravitates toward cheesey films because it's what film producers make. Yun na nakasanayan ng mga tao from the start. May gumagawa pa dn kasi

    ReplyDelete
  26. To be fair kung capable ang media to systematically dumb down the masses, I have no doubt na kaya din nilang mageducate at mag enrich, pero masyadong greedy ang mga entertainment corporations for this to happen. Sa ibang bansa may checks and balances pa rin somehow cause hindi ipinagtatanggol ng mga tao yung mga media corporations na parang pinapasahod sila unlike sa atin na yung audiences mismo ang nagagalit when people call out media outlets for putting out trash content lololol. Dapat naman talaga may discourse between sa mga creators at sa mga media companies at tama lang naman for creatives to fight for and stand by making content that they could be proud of. I mean, people are not saying to stop consuming lighthearted content, ang gusto lang nung mga nagdedemand is for some quality control.

  27. I'm not sure how good yun mga recent movies ng star cinema, since matagal na rin ako hindi nakakapanood ng local movies. But ang lagi kong natatandaan basta star cinema is, "Sarah, Ang Munting Prinsesa", "Madrasta", "Anak", "Tanging Yaman","Ama, Ina, Anak", "Maalaala Mo Kaya", which are pretty good movies.

    1. Mga magaganda yan that time. At lately puros romcom. Yung storytelling/plot, linear lang-boy meets girl, conflict, end. Pero to be fair, hindi lang naman SC ang ganyan.

  28. Parang may grudge sya sa Star Cinema ah. He should have called out the whole industry TBH. But, Eric Matti, maybe you should improve your style din.

    ReplyDelete

  31. He is right though. Pinas showbiz is all about recycled low quality garbash nonsense tv shows and movies. They haven’t done anything good or fresh for fifty years or so.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hay naku, pinas is too hopeless na.

    ReplyDelete
Sila paringgan or sabihan mo.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Napagiwanan na ang Pinas ng s.korea nakapasok na sila sa mainstream Hollywood to the point of winning an Oscar for Best picture recently
