It's a matter of national interest. He's owning the biggest media entity in the country. His allegiance should only be with the Philippines. Lawak lawakan po natin ang pag-iisip.
DeleteIn 1996, renewal of US Passport. US Passport - Acts and Conditions. He needs to renounce his other citizenship/nationality.
Delete2001. He asked recognition from DOJ for his filipino citizen because he wants to have a Phil Passport
In 2016, He voted in US election.
Some say he is a filipino due to 1935 Constitution. In 1986 our Phil Constitution was revised. PayPal ng bagong Constitution in 1986, eto na ang susundin na natin, hindi na in 1935.
Sa US, when a filipino is born in US Soil, he is automatically an American citizen by birth. At age of 18, he has an option to choose to be a filipino or an American. He keeps his US Passport, it means he keeps his US Citizenship/Nationality.
Sa Phil Constitution pertains to owning a mass media or running a broadcasting company, wala doon dual citizenship, Nakalagay lang 100% Filipino.
You can not have dual allegiance, it's against the law in both countries.
Basahin nyo ang ipinahayag ni G. Eugenio Lopez III regarding his allegiance to the Philippines. "The way I see it, I am first and foremost a Filipino. I will live, I will die in the Philippines..... If it came down to conflict of interest, I will give up my US citizenship in a minute."
Constitution.
Malulugi ang goberyno ng pilipinas kay Mr Lopez, he is earning billions with his network, konti lang tax at may credits pa.
ReplyDeleteWhy not? One of the provision in the franchise to broadcast is that it should be "WHOLLY OWNED BY A FILIPINO CITIZEN". Is Lopez a WHOLE/100% filipino when he is also an american citizen? And in fact, Congress is not obliged to hear this franchise bill. They have no obligation whatsoever. This is a PRIVATE BILL.
DeleteYes, Lopez is 100% Filipino.
there is no such thing po as a partial Filipino kasi hindi po natin pwedeng sabihin na 1percent american sya then 99 percent filipino o fifty fifty. He is both American and Filipino according to 1935 constitution on citizenship.
NOPE. THAT'S THEIR JOB. Are you trying to guilt trip me? It won't work.
Department of Justice na nga ang nagsabi na Gabby Lopez is a Filipino Citizen since birth based on the PH constitution. Bakit ayaw pa rin tanggapin ng congress when it's already confirmed by DOJ?
Delete12:41 ang nakalagay sa constitution is owned by a dilipino citizen. Di sinabi na bawal ang dual citizenship. Lopez is 100% a fil and 100% american citizen.
NOPE. THAT'S THEIR JOB. Are you trying to guilt trip me? It won't work.
Delete"Under the 1987 Philippine Constitution, Article IV, Section 1, it states that:
Section 1The following are citizens of the Philippines:
Those who are citizens of the Philippines at the time of the adoption of this Constitution;
Those whose fathers or mothers are citizens of the Philippines;
Those born before January 17, 1973, of Filipino mothers, who elect Philippine citizenship upon reaching the age of majority; and
Those who are naturalized in accordance of law."
12:59 You're maybe right. Citizenship can only be 100%. But how about ALLEGIANCE? If for example, the two countries you hold citizenship with were having conflicts, which side are you going to broadcast?
Delete1:01 I don't care about what and how you feel.
DeleteThere's no private bill.
Delete1:29 Look at Gabby Lopez, his birthdate is part of the 1935 constitution, kaya yun ang basis nung lawyers, alam din yan ng mga mambabatas because most of them are lawyers.
Delete1:29 kung anong year si Lopez pinanganak yun ang nagaaply sa kanya for his citizenship in terms of constitution. Hindi siya pabago bago.
DeleteMay alegiance bang nabanggit sa requirement sa business ownership? Wala dba?
Ikaw na mismo , sabi mo "those whose fathers and mothers are citizens of the Philippines" are citizens of the Philippines. Hala sya Oh? smh
Delete2:29 at bakit wala silang rights?
So anong problema?
May iba pa ngang triple! Wow talaga kahit ano ano nalang
ReplyDeleteYung mga dual citizens ba na sinasabi mo eh nag-a apply ng franchise to broadcast/mass media?
DeleteLike cong Alan Cayetano syempre magkaibang lahi ang parents. Filipino pa rin siya.
Delete12:48 he's a dual citizen, yes, pero di siya 50%
Deleteflipino, 50% american. Walang ganun sa batas.😅
He's 100% filipino, and that's the required provision to own a media network.
12.30 well, nung 1990's during the time that he was the ceo of abscbn, he believes na siya ay filipino citizen since birth at american citizen since birth din. His move proves that he is not sure about his filipino citizenship status.
Delete@12:30 Yun ang sabi sa Constitution natin. Ganito un, when worst comes to worst, if ever may violations nga a person with dual citizenship who owns big corporations/network can simply fly to other country escaping our law.
While in the case of Mr Lopez, 1935 po siya.
Wag ganun.
DeleteSa ibang negosyo, pwede kahit foreign-owned.
It looks stupid when congressmen are grandstanding about being Filipino. Do not us!
They want to justify that a dual citizen deserves to be given the franchise privilege.
DeleteDIbaaaa? parang mema nalang talaga. tapos may pa 50 years pa silang nalalaman kesyo bawal na daw irenew kasi naka 50 years na, e hello!!! Mismong si Christian Monsod na one of the framers of the 1985 Constitution na ang nagsabi ng hindi saklaw ng batas na yun ang broadcasting companies such as ABS dahil utilities such as water, electric companies lang ang sakop nun. Nakaka gigil na. Are we electing grade schoolers?
Delete1:27 But is there a law prohibiting dual citizens to own a network? Wala.
DeleteKung di sila masaya, gawa sila ng batas about that. Pero as it stands, no violation on citizenship.
1935 because Gabby Lopez date of birth is part of 1935 law on citizenship not 1987, or 1978 .
ReplyDeleteThe hearing was 3 hours long. Paulit-ulit na tanong, paulit-ulit din ang sagot ni Gabby Lopez, his lawyers and DOJ regarding his citizenship. Even some Congressman have stated the Philippine Constitution's Laws regarding Citizenship and yet ayaw pa rin tantanan ng ibang congressman at lalong lalo na ni Marcoleta ang issue. It's an issue that can be discussed and be resolved in less than an hour.
They are opening a can of worms kaya nga sabi ko wag dapat ginawang issue ang citizenship.
Hindi naman tumatakbo si Gabby Lopez for any public office,no need to renounce his dual citizenship.
DeleteSimple lang naman yan, ang sabi ng mga lawyers there is nothing in our constitution that prohibits a private citizen with "Dual citizenship" in owning a corporation/mass media company. For as long as you are a Filipino Citizen which Gabby Lopez is, He is entitled to own/run a mass media company. Kung may issue ang congress about dual citizenship, then maybe they should revise/amend the law and simply make it a law na kailangan isa lang ang citizenship mo to own a mass media company. Hindi kasalanan ni Gabby Lopez that he was and American and a Filipino citizen since birth.
Most of his life sa Pinas siya tumira at full Filipino siya.
Delete1:16 Kokek, let's see if Lopez will renounce his american citizenship in the service of the filipino LOL
DeleteHe just admitted that he voted last 2016 sa US. So yes, malakas ang ties nya
Ang dahilan: they also do their own readings daw.
Delete3:33 kahit naman iadmit nya na he voted last election sa US wala namang barier yun kasi both US and Philippines has not voting restrictions sa mga dual citezen so technically pwede sya bomoto here and also sa US
Delete@11:09, mukhang mababaw pero kung hihimayin mo may sense yung tanong nya, si gabby lopez ay dual citizen right? so is he 100% filipino or 100% american, kung sinabi nyang he is 100% filipino bakit di pa nya nirerenounce ang pagiging american citizen nya,so basically he is 100% filipino and 100% american ganun ba? Kung sya naman ay 50% filipino and 50% american, well sabit sya dun sa law na dapat 100% filipino ang nagmamay ari sa isang mass media company.
Deletehe doesnt need to renounce any citizenship dahil 100 percent Filipino siya and 100 percent American siya.
As per BIR wala silang utang, as per DOJ Gabby is a filipino citizen so ano problema naten mga sir? wala ba kayong mas importante dpat gawin at pinapaikot Ikot niyo tong issue na to? NAKAKASUKA NA KAYO
ReplyDeleteHe is not a filipino. He was born in Massachusetts, USA. He is an American Citizen.
Ang malaki problema niya, he did not give up his US Citizenship while owning and managing ABSCBN, dahil kung nagging state ng US US pilipinas at kahit US Court ang humawak sa kaso ng ABSCBN network. May makikita talaga violations.
6:10 Nagkakalat ka ng misinformation. Sinasadya mo ba yan? 🙄
DeleteHe's a dual citizen.
He's American because he was born there.
He's Filipino because both his parents are Filipinos.
Nasa grade school lesson yan, don't need to study Law para maintindihan.
6:10 why would he give up his citizenship? kunwari ka pa inggit ka lang sa greencard eh hahaha. according sa DOJ na nga eh ano mas marunong ka? lol
Deletedi ba na establish na ng maayos ang pagkadual citizen ni Lopez under the 1935 constitution. So it is true that he is american and filipino at the same time. He doesn't have to give up his citizenship.
DeleteGabby Lopez is using his dual citizenship for convenience. If he really is and feels Filipino, I dare him to renounce his accidental US citizenship. End of discussion.
ReplyDelete3:40 Now you just sound bitter ang jealous.
DeleteWhy should he? He was blessed with both. And according to our laws, it's legal.
I am sure if may dual citizenship ka, hinding hindi mo yan masasabi or maiisip. Tulungan nyo na lng yung Presidente nyo na iahon sa kahirapan ang Pilipinas, think and do something better, nde puro pabulag na suporta.
DeleteTruth hurts.
My mom was already 60 years when she applied for a passport, so meaning ba nun hindi sya Filipino for all those 60 years?
ReplyDeleteIsa pa yung nagdidiin na a person needs to renounce any allegiance to any foreign sovereignity before being an American Citizen not further knowing that such is not applicable para sa mga Dual Citizens..
DeleteTrot, too obvious naman e. Magastos din kasi sa merica, dolyares doon.
DeleteHmmm, I don’t believe him.
ReplyDeleteMr. Lopez doesn't care whether you believe him or not.
DeleteDual citizenship , dual allegiance. He voted in the US elections. He pays taxes to the US. Clear conflict of interest.
ReplyDeleteDouble taxation, pero tanong nagbabayad din ba ng tamang tax yan sa us, since he owns a big corporation.
Nganga! move on to the more pressing issues.
DeleteOnly Supreme Court can satisfactorily answer this.
ReplyDeleteRich people problems
ReplyDeleteAs if Gabby Lopez ever cared about the Phil constitution and the law. Lol.
ReplyDeleteas if you do.
DeleteCareful, Gabby. If the American govt is watching this hearing they might use your words against you. Hehe.
DeleteGabby Lopez is a known supporter of the Democratic Party with a Media business that holds a huge influence Over Filipino Americans. Under oath he said his allegiance is to the Ph and not to America yet he holds a US passport, votes in US elections, and exercisers American privileges. Yes, you’re right. He should be careful. Dual allegiance is against the law in many countries and is a threat to national security.
So us citizen siya.
For as long as your parents are Filipinos, kahit sang bansa ka pinanganak, basta may proof kang Pinoy magulang mo, Pilipino ka.
ReplyDeleteSomeone does not like the Lopez rule of business anymore. If Lopez wants to save the network and its thousands of employees and media reach, step down for now. Go back in when that someone is out of the picture. #realtalk
DeleteHmmm, it’s too funny because America actually doesn’t recognize dual citizenship.
ReplyDeletethat's the US pero Pilipinas ito.
DeleteCitizenship boils down to your allegiance. Right now, it’s 50-50. So nope, no mass media clout for him.
ReplyDeleteDual citizenship is a kalokohan nonsense. You can only have one allegiance to one country. You can’t have a divided allegiance.
ReplyDeletePaikot ikot lang toh eh. In short, ayaw talagang irenew ng the powers that be.
Delete
