Maria Reesa had a case which was filed against her back in 2012, iba pa administration noon, and it was filed by someone not related to our current president i believe. Now that the verdict has been decided by court, bakit attack on press freedom agad?? Dahil ba journalist siya at she's untouchable dapat by the law? Can you please enlighten me?

    1. During the 2nd SONA, PRRD warned Rappler that it will close down.

The article in question in the cyberlibel case was posted a few months before the law took effect. The article had a very minor spelling error which was corrected after the law took effect. It was not substantial bec nothing was changed in the article except for the spelling.

    2. Please ask Karen Davila what press freedom she is talking about. Just because they are in the media they can just express anything without proper responsibility.

    3. 1215, supposed crime was committed in May 2012; Cyber crime Prevention Act was signed into law in September 2012; published report where libel was supposedly committed was updated in February 2014. Case was filed in Oct 2017.

    4. The fact is that the article was republished in 2014 after the Anti-Cyber Crime Law took effect, 12:53.

  8. The current administration is really a whole circus and full of clowns right now pero tama bang isisi to sa kanila, eh, diba, 2014 pa to? LMAO correct me if I'm wrong or can someone, please, enlighten me about this?

  9. Freedom of the press "cannot be used as a shield" against libel.

      Delete
    6. The Rappler article came out in 2012 but the case was only filed in 2017, after Duterte became president. Sino ang walang reading comprehension?

      Delete

    8. 2012- First publication
2014- Republication because of the typo error
      2017- case was filed
It took them 3 years to file the case because in between they exhaust efforts to request Rappler to correct their article but it did not happen.

Sunod-sunod talaga. Nagkataon lang marahil. Wala namang kinalaman ang gobyerno sabi nila.

      Delete
    3. Rappler was warned by Duterte during the SONA. After that, patong patong na kaso na ang hinarap ni Rappler at Ressa.

  21. Ressa was given every chance to rectify the situation but she did not retract or edit the article. She did not even let him air his side of the story. She did not testify in court and disrespected the justice system. Justice has been served, but not yet karma. Now that is something Ressa should be afraid of.

Hayst.
