Assuming Gesture

Being the first to establish a milestone in a certain social media platform does not mean one will always be ahead of the pack. Once other netizens observe that social media has transformed a nobody into a sensation, they will imitate and improve on that concept. Thus, competition becomes harder and social media personalities have to find ways to keep and increase their viewership or else, lose revenues coming from clicks and likes.

When Insecure Personality (IP) realized that her field was becoming narrow with the entry of more famous and likeable celebrities, she thought of a concept that would ensure her belonging to the more popular choices. What worried IP was that the new entrants amassed many followers in such a short period. Thus, chances are more people would watch those new entrants and might forget about her posts.

Finally, IP thought that by involving ordinary people in her videos, she would create impact. This time, she stationed herself in a mall that is frequently by people from all walks of life. When she started, no mallgoer minded her, as she looked ordinary. Then, she started approaching and interviewing random people. With the noise she was creating, people started to notice her.

IP started to extend her hand to shake hands with people. However, IP had not yet gone far when she started pouring alcohol on her palms, rubbing hand sanitizer, and spraying perfume on her hand. It gave the impression that IP did not like the smell of where she was.

As IP made her way, many mallgoers avoided her, especially the ones who saw her actions after shaking hands. Given that no one seems to be interested, IP proceeded to the food court and suddenly interviewed an Older Woman (OW). OW was not in the mood and ranted that IP should ask permission first before taking videos and interviewing. Furthermore, not everyone gets excited at seeing celebrities. IP had to apologize and move on.

After a few minutes, IP bumped into a group of students and she once again extended her hand. Before she could shake hands, one of the students poured alcohol on IP’s hand. IP was shocked, but learned that the same group of students saw her actions earlier. Thus, after shaking hands, IP kidded about how virus-conscious mallgoers are.
