Meddlesome Actors

Although the production team would acknowledge that the flow of a series on TV comes from the collective brains of the writing pool and director, few would acknowledge that other parties can influence the outcome. To earn income, networks must have a strong programming lineup that would ensure viewership, and when viewership is high, advertisers scramble to place their ads. Thus, the program should attract viewers and a strategy is to place popular personalities in the cast.

Nonetheless, while the production team strives to entertain the viewers, several factors can affect their work. Even if the writers have a concrete and solid plan on how the story will flow, a suggestion or a request from someone can require revisions. Take the case of two popular celebrities in a network.

Male Personality (MP) has spent many years building his career and reputation. His work hours are impressive and MP took advantage of the break he was given to improve his craft. MP thus endeared himself to the production team and the network as well. During an early significant project, MP flexed his muscles when he felt uncomfortable with Fellow Lead (FL). Equally talented and appealing, FL can match or even surpass the acting of MP. One day, the production team got word of a request from MP. He wanted the scenes of FL to be reduced. Apparently, MP did not want to be overshadowed by FL. MP got his request and the writers went back to the drawing board.

Similarly, Female Celebrity (FC), who projects a goody-two-shoes image, might not be as innocent. In a project, FC shared top billing with Pretty Actress (PA). PA can act well regardless of the role. Even if she has a cameo, she will still give it her all. Meanwhile, FC is as reliable in the acting department, but in terms of fanbase, her network is wider than that of PA. That fact did not matter, as FC suggested certain revisions be done in their project. When PA read the last parts of her scenes in the project with FC, she could only wonder why her character was not included until the very end despite being a major player.
