  1. What’s taboo for you maybe normal for some people and vice versa. I‘ve never eaten exotic. I don’t even eat goat meat but you have to understand that the world is a big place. We have different cultures. We may not agree with other cultures but we can’t impose our beliefs on others. We can try, though, but we have to be sensitive on how we can influence others. The more you pound, the more resistance.

    1. There has to have certain boundaries and limitations. It cannot be tolerated just because you think it's just based on "beliefs" or it's a cultural thing. For instance, dog meat trade is definitely against the law, so with turtles, other endangered/exotic animals of which common sense can be used on why they're prohibited. Are you saying that a person can violate a law just because eating dogs has become part of their culture? Certainly not. Even ignorance of the law excuses no one. Hence, even personal or cultural beliefs cannot exonerate a person from penalties for violating a law. You may not like the law but it is what it is. There are certain animals that aren't allowed under the law to be traded/sold/bought/eaten for human consumption irregardless of cultural, personal beliefs. FYI mere possession of dog meat is punishable. You need not have to eat it.

    3. You’re talking about laws. How certain are you that every country has a law against eating all of those animals?

      Delete
Prevention is better than cure

Automatic bawal kainin. Kahit nga un mga sea horse bawal un eh. Ignoramus kasi karamihan.

    6. People should also evolve to be more humane and civilized. Maybe in the past people need to eat anything and everything in order to survive but that is no longer the case. Humanity already abolished slavery which was considered “normal” during the uncivilized times in history.

    7. I ate frog in a restaurant in Florida as one of the exotic dishes being served. It tasted like chicken. In US, it is safe to eat frogs. Kung bawal iyan, madami nang nagclose na mga exotic restaurants sa ibat ibang state ng US or ibat ibang lugar sa mundo.

Eating exotic food may not look or sound right for others but people also have to understand that once you live in other countries, many might have different appetite than yours or hers. We don’t have the right to tell them that is wrong or evil.

What some people may not be considered normal for them, maybe consider normal for others like eating exotic foods.

In New Orleans and in Florida, they fry or steamed frogs. In countries like Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia they eat Cuy - is a species of cava rodents ( rats ). In Mexico, they eat worms. And also in Peru, they eat tortoise.... Mga exotic na pagkain yan. They do not Eat as raw. They cook it.

    9. 1:17, unfortunately may differ with different countries... you should also take that in to consideration

      Delete
    10. I don't think it's part of a country's culture. I call it survival. You eat what is available.

      Delete
    11. Country's history and culture Sofia. What's normal for us might not be normal for them and v.v. There are certain beliefs that eating specific animals makes them stronger. Acknowledge that there are other history, cultures and beliefs out there that isn't the same as yours. You can help by educating people of the health disadvatages of eating certain animals.

  2. It is normal for some people based on their culture. How hard is it for you to understand that there are other people aside from yourself?

Ano mahirap intindihin don? Kung kultura niyo na kumain ng langaw, well GO. Support ka namin. Wala naman batas na nagbabawal don. Pero aso and other endangered animals kahit pa parte ng kultura niyo. BAWAL YON. BAWAL YON.

      Delete
    2. I am not saying na dapat kainin ang aso. I dont.

    1. 7:45, Lol, that’s also how epidemics from deadly viruses and bacteria are started. Started by people who eat exotic meats. It’s okay if they live in isolation and die alone, but they also spread it to the general population.

  20. Wait anong pinaglalaban nya? Wag kainin yung dogs, bats, rats, koala, etc? OK so how are they different with chicken, beef, pork, lamb? Di sya kumakain nito? Vegan sya?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 8:06, Chicken, pork, beef, lamb are not wild and don’t carry deadly viruses and bacteria. They are being monitored regularly and are regulated. If they are contaminated, they are destroyed by the government right away to prevent an epidemic. Wild animals are not monitored for diseases and are responsible for many deadly pandemics, started by people who consume exotic meat products.

  23. CULTURE IS RELATIVE! What may be ok for you may not be ok for others and vice versa. Let’s be sensitive, people!

Case in point, PORK. And re dogs, you’d be surprised to know that in many countries outside our dog-is-family-country, dog eating is very much legal. Read, travel and learn!

  25. Normal is relative to peoples culture and upbringing. Sofia, there are provinces in the Philippines where people eat bats, dogs - both out of necessity and as a novelty. Vegans can ask you if it's normal to eat cows and pigs, which is abnormal for them. Ang babaw ng perspective.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The main point is that these people are responsible for starting deadly pandemics from viruses and bacteria because they expose themselves to these animals and even eat them. Gets mo.

  26. All your petty arguments won't matter in a few weeks when the virus reach our shores.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @12:08 PM and 9:21 AM - Cultural relativism isn't absolute. Cows and pigs and chickens - they are raised in farms specifically as food sources. They are regulated by national and local government to ensure that they remain safe food sources and their population is not rendered extinct and their environmental impact is within sustainable limits. The animals Sofia enumerated are NOT regulated, meaning they are captured wild and if other do farm them - again, outside of government regulation meaning their environmental impact is not taken into consideration by the ones breeding them and no one is looking into how consuming these animals affect our health. While I agree that Sofia is most likely pandering a half-hearted concern for the animals, she raises a valid point. And your cultural relativism defense is neither pragmatic nor absolute. Mababaw, to quote 12:08 PM. As for 9:21 AM, traveling is a good form of getting education but so is reading. If you need to travel to be made aware of certain things like cultural relativism, then prepare to make trillions because you'll need it to educate yourself further and deeper.

    1. 4:37, I'm not quite sure that the government regulates the meat industry to the point that its impact is within sustainable limits. Recent studies show otherwise, eating meat is actually one of the most harmful things that you could do for the environment. And I dunno if this applies to the philippines, but in the US there's very little that the gov't can do to regulate practices in the food industry because of lobbying, and they're the most powerful country in the world. Since there are actually instances where people got away with selling botcha in local markets, buko juice laced with formalin, bagoong made in factories infested with rats, junk food factories where people don't wear hairnets and gloves, chicharon made of carabao meat, and many more, I'd say our gov't don't have as much control either, at least to the extent that you'd like to think.
