  2. Let me just preface this by saying that mental illness is a tough condition for anybody to have; and using social media to journal one’s journey through the illness may not be the best way to heal oneself.

It is not clear what Gab has. I think he has made a vague attempt to “open up” to the public in the past, but stopped short at saying exactly what it is that he is diagnosed with, hence such post was not received as well as expected. Here again is another post that vaguely attempts to let people know that he is suffering from some sort of mental illness but for some reason (I think) he expects the public to “just know” what he is going through. If he wishes to be a champion for those suffering mental illness, he needs to be more open so that the public can understand how he relates to what he posts, if he is anything less than open, he will only be misunderstood because people will ask questions and follow-up with more questions from him. Ayaw yata niya masyado ma-expose, pero being “almost open” about such things is not going to help him get the full support and understanding he wants, no matter how much he says or expresses that “he doesn’t care what others think” about him or his posts. In the end, the results of his social media campaign might just negatively affect his recovery.

    Get well soon Gab.

    1. True.

    3. He already admitted via a CNN report that he has bipolar disorder - which, fyi, is a neurobiological dysfunction. People shouldn't have to expose all the details of their problems to "deserve" empathy. Clearly he is already suffering even if he does not disclose his diagnosis. Any person who demands a confessional of details from others is simply being a gossip. Put yourself in his place. If you had a huge problem, would you want people, even strangers, to demand of you to narrate every detail of your personal problem before they offer you some comfort or pity? Try being human for a while and exercising a bit of empathy for Gab.

    5. No he doesn’t have to disclose details, but the public will always ask him about it. People will ask for various reasons but that is the nature of being public about one’s life. To say that people need to try being human is condescending and insulting when he is the one who put himself in the middle of a public campaign to advocate for mental illness. People will ask him pointed questions about his own challenges because he gave the public that access. Don’t be naive 2:59, it would be difficult to protect him in social media, unless you have the energy to fight off everyone who has a question to ask or a comment about him and his illness.

    6. You can’t regulate the public feedback once you put your life out on social media. That is the painful truth 259. Unfortunately for Gab, that is how he chose to go though his illness, by being public about it. Maybe he thrives in public attention whether good or bad, as long as he is present in people’s minds he doesn’t mind the negative feedbacks.

      Delete
    7. 259 if that's the case, then it really is a good idea for him to stay off social media. It appears that less that stellar response from the public also triggers his depression (i'm basing this off of his past rants).

    9. 2:59 you do realize it’s gab who’s constantly posting about his mental health journey? He makes it public & he’s aware people will have opinions, so if he didn’t want any usolicited advice, then he needs remake it private and not post for all of social media to see! I agree with the anon, that if he truly does want to help people with metal Heath issues then he has to be open! He’s been in and out of the hospital yet no one really knows what he’s going through because he is vague about it. So we can’t really fault anyone who criticizes him.

    10. But he admitted in his recent CNN PH interview that he was diagnosed last year with bipolar disorder and clinical depression. Dunno lang if that was the first time he disclosed the diagnosis.

      Delete
    11. Tama, maybe he might want to vlog about it.To show people what bipolar disorder is.I mean it is not just celebrities suffering from this condition.

      Delete

    13. Maybe his family can produce a documentary by with a well-versed journalist on the matter of mental illness. Gab, along with others suffering from mental illness can be featured in it. That will be a better way to provide awareness to the public. A documentary, if well done, will bridge the gap and provide answers to those of us who know little about the subject. Gab can use that as a platform to speak to his intended audience. That is a better vehicle than vlogging to chronicle his journey in a very raw manner. The intended audience might become vulnerable to the vlog’s content and negatively affect their recovery.

  3. I have severe depression, it is not easy for me and for my husband as he needs to be always there to check me and be assured that i am good and the kids are good. Having mental health is like a curse, you have it but not many will believe it, you want it gone but you dont know how to remove it. Wish for him to stop social media for the meantime.

    1. It is actually good for him if it is an outlet at the same time very informative so that more Filipinos would understand what a person with bipolarity goes through.Mas maiintindihan.

      Delete
That is irresponsible. Iba iba ang pinagdadaanan ng mga taong meron mental illness, they are all very vulnerable kaya yung pa vlog vlog ni Gab na siya lang nagbibigay ng kung anong opinion niya baka makasama pa yan sa kanya ay sa mga ibang target audience niya.

      Delete
    3. @1051 in my case its not, social media triggers my depression as i can see negativities. He needs to focus on himself and heal first, when he is ok then he can do this to help others.

      Delete
    4. 1:42 hindi yan pwede may privacy act between doctors disclosing the prognosis of a patient.

  4. Social media is not kind to those who lick their wounds publicly and walk like a wounded puppy expecting to be given allowances. Social media is a jungle filled with all sorts of harmful characters that will not help someone who needs to go through a tough life challenge. Taking a break from social media should help you focus on getting better.

  5. I dont think it is healthy for him to be in Social Media kung may mental health issues sya.

    1. Magpatingin la sa doktor. Wag lang mag rely sa social media for diagnosis, that the time to see a your general practitioner for assessment and they will refer you to a specialist, if necessary, you owe yourself that.

  8. I think there are people who empathize on social media but the problem is it compounds the problem. Others show empathy by tolerating Gab’s self-pity posts, others massage his ego by encouraging him to keep talking on his experiences half-baked. People have a different level of expectation because he is a celebrity, which unfortunately comes with the territory, and because of that all such public declarations may be affecting him negatively in some way. Mental illness is tough enough to deal with within one’s own little world, and to open that door and let the world wide web give you their buy-in along with whatever support that comes through is quite dangerous, think about it. This is painful to watch unfold on social media, and because it’s there we all comment about it. You can’t expect everyone to be gentle with him because the world is so vast and many will simply not understand what he is going through. I am not being hard on him, I’m simply talking about the method by which he decided to manage his journey—he chose this tough road called social media, instead of choosing to be around those closest to him. It will be very tough for him.

  11. I have mild depression and anxiety disorder, it's not easy to dwell with it every now and then. There were times you just feel so useless and hopeless. Social media also adds to depression.

  12. He was in the hospital again? And why does he need to post about it every time? He’s always preaching about working on himself and then ends up in the hospital and starts posting againπŸ˜‘ maybe if he would jus relay off social media, he’d feel better. Idk there’s just something about him that doesn’t come off sincere, he comes off very attention seeking especially since he couldn’t make it in showbiz so doing things like this keep him relevant.

  13. Public discussions online regarding one’s mental illness is a slippery slope, especially if a medical professional is absent from such discussion. First, you get the accolades for being courageous, then many will empathize and support you. But then, the next few times you post about it again, people (read: strangers) will want answers to their questions because you sparked their curiosity. Unfortunately, not everybody will be careful or cautious or eloquent when asking questions, lines will be blurred, and a simple unadulterated query or observation will be tagged as unkind, unfeeling, or worse, inhuman. I think in general, FP followers are sensitive and smart, and try to understand posts like those of Gab’s. Loyal FP followers either post their own experiences to show that they understand and relate to him, or others will advise that social media will unlikely help in his journey to healing, or others will offer unsolicited advice based on their personal experience or acquired knowledge from reading online articles regarding the subject, or others are even medical professionals themselves. But there are still those who will criticize the manner by which he takes on affectations to impress the public or whoever reads his bold musings on the subject. Either way, it would be cumbersome to have to defend against each and every comment you don’t like or don’t understand 2:59. Maybe take things with a grain of salt. So far, nobody here has attacked Gab like you seem to have interpreted. All-in-all, I think people are solicitous because they want to relate to him, and/or see him triumph over his illness, thus the advice to stay off social media.

  15. Minsan kasi the reason why people post it in social media not putting all the details but ung informing lang na may mental health issue ung tao is for awareness.

May Mental issue.

    2. Then maybe he should just say that. Hindi yung kung ano anong battle cry. Confusing kasi ang message niya. First of all, bakit para sa buong mundo kung message for friends lang pala? Second, bakit hindi gawing more personal?
