In her defence, she probably meant/could have said, “you could overcome depression.” Hirap din sumagot ah. Give her a break. Parang nakapatay naman yun tao.
ReplyDeleteTrue. This cancel/pa woke culture needs to stop.
DeleteShe is supposed to be a psych graduate. She has no excuse.
DeleteI was diagnosed with depression and anxiety last year, and believe me, this is not because I dont believe in myself or I dont know myself. Do you know how hard it is to open up about this illness? And statements such as what she gave makes it even more harder for the thousands with the same diagnosis. It is like she is dismissing what we have, the struggle that we face each day... the attempts to get better, to seek counseling and medication... the resistance to suicidal thoughts...
DeleteShe can rectify it, but the fact that she is deleting comments about this in her IG makes me think she is not remorseful.
1:07 Why were you depress or What made you depress?
Delete1:07 Wala namang perpektong tao, 12:42 is right malamang mali lang siya ng nagamit na words, may timing pa yan at ura urada di mo malaman yung kaba niya while thinking ano isasagot niya. Give her a break! Hindi madaling maging perpekto gaya mo
Delete@12:58 ang strict mo teh. Tao lang din naman. So nagkakamali sometimes, di tulad mo kasi perfect ka like God nohhh. Bongga. Hahaha
Dahil sa mga Super Sensitive Depressing Woke Triggered AlwaysConcerned Netizens for the Welfare of Others!
Delete@12:58- my friend who’s a pysch grad is now recovering from failed suicide because of depression. It can happen to anyone even if you studied psychology.
Delete1:25 no, i am not perfect. wala akong sinabi... far from it. i have an illness, and it is making me hard to function normally on most days.
So second nature dapat ang knowledge about this.
Hi 122, I’m not 107 ha but I’ll try to shed light to answer your questions. When a person gets sick of depression, that doesn’t necessarily mean there was a specific reason that made that person depressed. There could be triggering factors, yes. But there doesn’t need to be an actual reason for depression. Depression is actually caused by chemical imbalances in the brain where our serotonin or dopamine levels fluctuate and that’s why most times, apart from counseling, people suffering from it need medication as well to balance those chemicals. It’s a real sickness that could happen to anyone and needs proper medical attention and not just counseling or guidance or talk talk lang. Both are needed. Hand in hand yan.
Delete2:07 I am not 1:07 but thank you for explaining. As one who suffers from the condition minsan ayaw ko sumagot kasi di ko alam if nagtatanong lang or sasabihan akong ang arte ko.
DeleteTo: 2:07 hi im not 1:22 yes your right 👍 im totally agree with you. Ako diagnosed ako ng major Depression disorder and i committed suicide 3yrs ago im not proud of it and im still taking medication sertaline (zoloft) and it i could say it's works. Pero the best way to fight depression is medication, counseling, Family, and of ofcourse si God ☝️ 0
Delete@1:22 you can't just ask someone what triggered their depression. Lmao
Delete2:51 Thank you! Na-off rin ako
Delete2:51 huh? Why? Kaya maraming speculations about depressions. Sabi chemical imbalance then it wasnt triggered by anything pag ganun dahil usually pag chemical imbalance its hereditary or inducing drug. Mostly kasi deep emotional acquired feelings.
DeleteI don't get people here. Like any other fields, case to case basis ang treatment kahit sa mental problems. Ang mali lang nya is ang sagot nya only works for specific people when ang need is yung generalize.
DeleteLose Valdez to for sure 🙄
DeleteSana sinabi na lang nya na with proper medical, emotional, psuchological, and spiritual help, victims can fight depression.
Parang balik nanaman tayo s mang kepweng days. Depression and Anxiety disorder is real! I have one as well. Very hard! D ka gaganahan kumain, things that you usually enjoy, heck, even sex! Mahirap talaga if d mo macontrol ang nararamdaman mo.
DeleteAs for this girl.. ewan ko lang ano pinagaralan nya sa psychology. BTW, uba yung simpleng depress na sadness, iba ang depression and anxiety discorder as sickness.
Yikes delete pa pala nya mga nag comment about this issue on her ig. Wow. Dapat bawian ‘to ng psych diploma if talaga grad sya dyan. Grabe her teachers must be very disappointed.
DeleteI wonder how does she handle her students or what advice does she have them
When I was in college kinausap ko GC namin kasi nga mabigat na nararamdaman ko everyday. A week after things got so dark nag-attempt ako. Doctor na pala kailangan ko. Buti in recovery na ako
When you say doctor me mga meds ka nang tinake?
Yes. Docs, meds, hospitalization.
Delete2:17 so hereditary? Me history ang parents mo? which side?
Delete3:15 Anong ginagawa mo?
Delete3:15 Ok ka lang? Bakit ganyan line of questioning mo? Asking for a friend? May survey? Or wala lang?
Deleteanon 3:15, either you’re curious or you’re trying to figure out your own symptoms. If it’s the former, your questions are too personal. If it’s the latter, this is not the right venue to get answers. You need to seek help from a professional because symptoms may vary from one individual to another.
Delete2:13 This. Thank you!
Deletewe are all anonymous here so me armor dahil Hindi naman natin kilala ang isat isa! - 3:15
Delete315 me suggestion ako. Try mo bumisita s mental institution pra me fist hand experience ka kso ndi pla ako sure kung pede kc me privacy policy dn mga pasyente or pede nmn cguro kung mgvovolunteer ka... RN kc ako kaya nakita ko mga pasyente dun at ska me kapatid akong schizophrenic kaya nakailang bisita n rn ako dun. Try mo s UST hospital or NCMH. Sana nga mas marami aware about s mental health. Paborito ko rn subject 2 nung college ako dhil n rn s kapatid ko. Try mo!
Delete3:15, I’m not 2:13 but I agree na condescending yung mga tanong mo
Delete5:11 TRUE
DeleteBaka ma experience nya na depression ngaun if she read comments!
ReplyDeleteShe might be pressured and nervous before and during that. But of course that's not an excuse to give that answer. As usual the keyboard warriors/woke culture are having fun to mock her instead of correcting her properly and give her advice and more knowledge about depression.
ReplyDeleteWag na natin sayangin energy sa kanya. Sa tingin ko di siya insensitive. Mababaw siya.
ReplyDeleteThat's Psychology Ed For You! Marunong pa kayo sa kanya!
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming and hoping this is sarcasm.
It is not just about knowing yourself.
She even took pride of being a psych grad and guidance counsellor tas ganyan sagot niya. Kaloka
They expect everything to be PERFECT.
DeleteJust recent here in the US, a pastor killed himself because he was battling depression. Don't undermine depression with self confidence and knowing who you are. This is a bad disease na kayang pumatay kahit sino or ano ang tingin mo sa sarili mo. She should go back to school or saang school siya graduate?
ReplyDelete12:54 or he was struggling with guilt....
DeleteHahahahaha....omg, and she is a psych graduate. That’s unreal. What did she learn in that school? Depression is a real mental disease manifested by different root causes such as chemical imbalance and other psychological problems.
DeleteThat’s is very ignorant. They need to take her diploma back.
ReplyDeleteI learned depression through Noni and Sharmaine Buencamino, it’s not that you are malungkot it’s because nagkakaroon ng imbalance sa brain something like that. When will people learn ba na hindi dahil nawawala ka sa landas ang depression
ReplyDeletePag ganun me tinake na something like drugs coz hindi pwedeng magkaron ng imbalance ang brain kung water ang tinetake mo unless me cholera.
Delete1:30 pwedeng genetics din ang imbalance sa brain
Delete130, That’s a wrong perception, dear. May mga imbalances kase minsan sa chemicals natin sa brain like serotonin and dopamine lévela that can contribute to this illness and other variations of. That imbalance is NOT because of taking any drugs. It can happen to anyone. Many contributory factors affect that. Genetics, diet, deficiency in other vitamins such as Vitamin D etc.
Delete1:30 ano daw?
DeleteYup. 1:45 genetics, drug intake, syphilis, things that causes chemical imbalance in the brain. 1:47 ang gulo mo! Its about intake nga!
Delete204, Paano naging intake ang genetics? Tsaka nutrient deficiency?
So sa intake nga.
Delete2:04 my gosh.
Kung genetics ang factor ng imbalance, that obviously has nothing to do with drug intake. Kung may deficiency rin sa diet or sleep kaya na develop ang imbalance, that also has nothing to do with drug intake.
DeleteGanito kasi 9:39 para maintindihan mo. Ang claim kasi is chemical imbalance so ang pinupunto ko is kung walang history o genetic hereditary yung tao pano nagkaron ng chemical imbalance? Now kung diet ang argument that's considered as ginagamitan ng intake. Para sabihan kasing me chemical imbalance ang isang tao without genetic history of mental health sa family e papano nangyare yun? Sorcery? Syphilis isa sa mga cause din. Pero naacquire thru sexual contact. Nagets mo na ba?
DeleteYikes, I’m scared for her students. That’s a disaster.
ReplyDeleteI have commented in her IG in a civil way about this, but she keeps on deleting it.
ReplyDeleteShe adds to the stigma...this is how one makes this illness seem irrelevant.
Give her benefit of the doubt. People chase her with their judgement including you, baka stressed out na din yung tao.
JUST SO YOU KNOW hindi "konting problema depressed agad". Di nakocontrol yun pero naoovercome at right time and medication. I know someone who's living an ideal life pero na depressed. Sya mismo hindi nya alam "HOW&WHY" it happened knowing na my buhay syang kinaiinggitan ng iba. It can happen to anyone.
You know another term for depression?? Ungrateful! #TruthBeTold
ReplyDeleteTry saying that to those diagnosed (aka backed by science) and those that committed suicide or have attempted to :(
DeleteHay naku! Dahil sa ganitong mga tao kaya nahihirapan ang iba mag speak out about mental illness e. Totoong sakit po yan. It's not being ungrateful. #RealTruthBeTold
Delete1:08 such an ignorant comment. You know nothing so please do your research before commenting on the subject.
Deleteyung iba kasi ginagawang excuse and trend yung depression. ang hirap na tuloy paniwalaan
DeleteYou know what you need? Education. You have obviously lived under a rock for all these years. Depression is a serious matter. Hindi lang yan lungkot-lungkutan. There is science behind it. Dagdagan mo pa ng horror stories of suicide.
DeleteAnon 1:08, grab a book about depression or just simply google it. Your comment simply shows your lack of understanding on this topic.
DeleteI hope it doesn't happen to you or to anyone close to you for you to fully comprehend this. Comments like yours 1:08 does more harm than good. Apart from being uneducated about the topic, you sound self righteous pa.
Delete*facepalm*
ReplyDeleteDon't take Psych courses/degree at her school...which university did she graduate from?
ReplyDeleteGrabe ka naman. Sometimes, it's the student, not the school nor the teacher. Wag mag stereotype. Super judgmental lang.
DeleteP. S di ko alam san siya nag aral
Depression is something no one will understand fully unless they had it themselves. That sickness is a whole different monster.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
Deletecorrect! iba yung SAD sa Depression.
DeleteYes.. It's so hard trying to be positive in order not to be depressed... :(
DeleteSo very true. One simple explanation hardly suffice. Depression is very, very complex!
DeleteI developed depression when I saw a homeless guy once, for some reason I felt so bad for him, and was terrified that I might end up like him one day. The thought of that consumed me. I felt bad and sad for years. Even when I am with friends doing the things we enjoy, at the back of my mind I am feeling sad and anxious. Tinatago ko yung feelings ko cause Im afraid people might not understand me.
Delete12:19 normal yung naexperience mo. Nagkaron ka ng shock coz First time mong nakakita and hindi ka familiarize sa ganung situation. Now ang problem talaga e meron kang deep seated emotional hole na natrigger dun sa nakita mo Maybe yung fear mo of something like concerning about your parents or the way you were brought up. Ang hirap iexplain para mapaintindi coz we are only typing.
DeleteThanks 3:43, but that was not the 1st time na nakakita ako ng homeless person. But that time napaisip talaga ako ng kung anuano like bakit siya nagkaganun, etc etc. I felt sad for him and that sadness stayed with me. Na as if ako na yung homeless. It's weird, ayoko isipin yun at lalo ayaw ko maramdaman yun cause I want to enjoy life, 19 lang ako nun. Years passed and medyo nakocontrol ko na, however, aside from homeless people, may ibang triggers na nadevelop, like pag tagulan na, even time of day, pag 5pm na nagkikick in na yung sad state ko.
ReplyDeleteIn a beauty contest, timed ang oras mo.
ReplyDeleteDepression is a complicated matter. Exhaustive yan. Hindi yan masasagot in 10-30 seconds. These netizens who claim to know about how to answer kuno has the luxury of time to think about what to say. Subukan nilang sumagot under time pressure about an exhaustive topic.
Consult a doctor. Easy. Don’t try to wiggle an answer to something you know very little about. It might not help her win but its the most sensible answer.
Delete2:22 yes you are right, under pressure sya and depression is such a sensitive and complicated issue. but then again, this topic is actually not something new to her as she claims to be a psychology graduate and a practicing guidance counselor, hence the disappointment of people from her "insensitive" remark on depression.
DeleteMahirap po nabunot nya same with the moving on. 60secs lang ba time nila? Daming matatalino nman dito.
ReplyDeleteI wish it was that easy.
ReplyDeleteShe could have said, depression can happen to anyone and some will not openly talk about how they feel so we should be mindful of the people around us. we should always try to be kind, so these people would feel that there's always someone they could talk to and perhaps seek help.
ReplyDeleteito lang..lahat tayo may mga battles sa buhay. yung depression whether from internal o external, for me malalampasan mo yan by first of all praying. second always choose to be positive, have a support group na u can talk to. 3rd, eat well lalo na kung chemical imbalance ang case mo. i do think wala naman masama yung sinabi nya. nasa tao rin talaga kung paano nya ihahandle yung prob kaya kung kilala mo nga sarili mo and di ka magpapatalo and u choose to rise above it, mas high chance na makawala ka as opposed to always playing victim na kesyo this and that. i suffered depression due to external and it stays with you pero nasa sayo talaga on how you handle it.
ReplyDeleteDepression is not a self diagnosed problem. People loosely use this term these days. Being sad and having down days do not necessarily mean one is depressed.
DeleteEasily said than done. You’re lucky but others who suffer from it aren’t.
DeleteHays. Depression is an ILLNESS. SAKIT PO YAN. At kelangan ng gamot dyan. Kaya nga may antidepressants and anxiolytics..
May ganung cases pero bihirang bihira as opposed to people who went through trauma or something else kaya di mo pwedeng sabihin na misconception yung sinabi ko.
DeleteMga kabataan ngayon ang o-oa. Assuming na she meant what she said, pananaw niya yun. Wag sensitive. Hindi kelangan same beliefs lahat ng tao sa mundo so long as di siya nagiging criminal sa mga paniniwala niya. Don’t force your beliefs to others because #1 mas lalong maiirita ang pagsasabihan niyo and #2 wala kayong karapatan.
ReplyDeleteBeliefs are different from facts. As a practicing counselor and a psych grad, she should be providing facts about depression because she is supposed to be knowledgeable about it.
I don’t see any malice in her statement regarding the subject of depression.
ReplyDeleteYes, perhaps she needs to research more about the subject.
She’s being targeted by these netizens simply because she’s a pageant girl and they found an excuse to attack her by using her statements against her.
actually she is right...
ReplyDeleteNo, she isn’t
DeleteIgnorance is never right.
DeleteI don’t think she meant it. Depression is a real mental illness. You wouldn’t say to a schizoprenic or a ptsd patient to “know yourself and believe in yourself and you’ll be fine” that’s BS! Sa mga ganitong klaseng tanong, the safest answer is to consult a doctor.
ReplyDeleteThat’s fine if she’s a contestant. But she’s a psych major and even boasted about it. That’s embarrassing!
Delete3:43 pageant ang sinalihan niya teh. Malamang magyayabang Yan.
DeleteANG OOA NANG IBA DITO...MGA ATENG LAHAT TAYO NAKARANAS MA LUNGKOT O MA DEPRESS KAYA NASA TAO TALAGA YAN KUNG PANO MO I HANDLE..PWEDI BA WAG NYONG ISISI SA KANYA DAHIL YAN SAGOT NYA,WAG DIBDIBIN MGA ATENG DAHIL DI TAYO LAHAT PERPEKTO...MGA IPOKRITA!
ReplyDeleteThis is the common misconception among people. We say we’re “depressed” when we feel sad. Depression is far more serious and complex than you think. It is diagnosed by a psychiatrist, not a psych grad.
DeleteOa?! Lol depression is an illness! ILLNESS. TY
DeleteThat is why we should take extra caution in using the word "depressed" and "depression" some use it to express current state of emotion but is far from the actual mental health condition. Instead of attacking uninformed people, better if we educate them and create more discussions for awareness and knowledge sharing about it.
ReplyDeleteThat's what shes trying to explain ata na if alam mo ihandle. Ndi ka mdedepress. Depression is diff from sadness or emotional kalang. Depression is ung malapt kana mgpakamatay or wala kanang gana sa lahat. But sadness is normal lang. Some people kc akala nila sadness is the same sa depression eh ang liit lang pala ng problema nila.
DeleteActually ang meaning ng depress is sad or down emotionally. Yung Depression na "sickness" naman kasi maraming under kasi dito like Anxiety/Panic Attacks, Irrational Fear, Melancholy, Delusions/Excess Imaginations and others. Pero sa experience ko ang 2 main trigger ng Depression "sickness" is DEEP FEAR AND GUILT.
Deletehindi naman nia kailangan mag discuss ala thesis defense about depression. may psych degree kasi sha diba at practicing guidance counsellor pa. so andun ung expectation na may mas malinaw shang idea about depression. it's not even about being articulate. it's in her choice of words or manner of delivery, its the general thought. and dun sha sumablay. and I thank you!
ReplyDeletemaybe she just want her students to be positive, instead of bashing her why don't you try to share your good thought instead! what if yung bashing na ginagawa niyo mag-lead sa depression sa kanya? hirap sa atin masyadong magagaling! how ironic na galit kayo sa understanding niya ng depression pero sa sinasabi niyo kayo ang possible maging way para maranasan niya yun.! Filipinos where is the love??? so much hatred!
ReplyDeleteSad, daming mamaru. Are you depressed? If not, shut up.
ReplyDeleteNowadays daming epal na sensitive lahat nalang inaarayan🙄🙄🙄 malamang she’s under pressure and have to answer as quickly and witty as she can🙄🙄🙄 mga sensitive na puno ng hatred 🙄🙄🙄
ReplyDeleteBig yes! It became an obsession na maging depress. Para maiba sila in this insta generation. KSP! Tsaka puro nalang imbalances etc. Yes may ganung cases but most of the time naman it is bec may nangyari na hirap ka mag cope. Ako dumaan din sa depression and the experience changed me completely. I am better now and it is a day to day struggle. However wala akong issue sa sagot nya. Correct naman sya na in most cases, you just need to pull yourself out of it. People can help but ikaw mismo yung mag aalis sa situation with God's help ang grace
DeleteShe has a point. Ung ndi dibdibin.
ReplyDeleteMeron namang ndi talaga kaya dahil mahina.
Give her a break, the Q&A was under time pressure. She had to answer fast.
ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed with depression and i think since 3 rd yr HS pa to. But i always thought it was normal... They will never know that they're diagnose with clinical depression
ReplyDeleteKorak!
DeleteThat’s not an informed or educated opinion. She is simply wrong, that’s why. You can’t just accept ignorance.
DeleteI was sexually abused as a child. At 8 yrs old, i was molested by a relative. I grew up not telling anyone about it. People around me just know that I’m an ideal ‘child’. Went to good schools and excelled. 2 years ago at 36, i started getting ‘more emotional’ when the #metoo movement started. The abuse that i tried to bury started to haunt me at night, and became clearer as the days go by. After 4 months, i had a major breakdown. Panic attacks, depression and anxiety. Good thing i decided to see a psychiatrist before it was too late for me. I was given medication, which until now i am taking. Had i not decided to seek help, i Might have been gone, or locked up. It was really hard to function for a few months. I could not bear loud music, i get nervous walking outdoors, i could not sleep without taking sleeping medication. At work, no one would notice that i was suffering. I managed to tell my closest friends which is a relief, but not everyone because of the stigma it brings. That is the case for mental illness. Mine was triggered badly. I also started therapy. I am better now, but some days it comes back. My doctor said good thing that i am innately strong, because some who are on my situation would have given up. But i won’t be able to function properly now without the meds. When you have diabetes, you tell a person to go see a doctor and treat it. You don’t tell them to just pray. That is the same with depression, you need proper medical treatment. We need proper education with mental illness, because it is a silent killer. Some would use depression loosely, but our likes who are suffering from it, need proper care and understanding. Different people have different triggers, and has different effects. It does not need to be hereditary. You can be one of the healthiest looking person and most successful, but you can fall prey to it. It is not easy, but with medical help, therapy, family, friends and understanding, it will become manageable.
I also believe that it's your choice to be defeated by depression or overcome it. Pinayayaman nyo lang mga psychiatrist eh.
ReplyDelete
