No Change

As talents come and go, competition for the projects can be tough as well. One can be the toast of the town one moment and suddenly forgotten after a project or two. Moreover, if one does not have strong support among insiders, getting work can be hard.

When Good-looking Actor (GA) found himself between jobs for many months, he felt a bit neglected. GA used to have one project after another but the point came when he was already overlooked and new actors were hired in roles that could fit him. Feeling snubbed and hearing that his management has no immediate plans for him, GA started to think hard of where to steer his career.

Loyalty is hard to come by these days. With the many movements from one network to another, transferees have often been accused of lack of loyalty and gratitude to the team that has shaped their career. In the case of GA, it was his present network that gave him the break that led to him becoming a household name. GA was, of course, thankful then, as he was not sure as to how he was going to be packaged and for how long such an image could last. Nevertheless, the image that made him famous was the same image that he could not shake off.

In his roles, GA seemed to be playing similar characters. Although playing a villain could hone his talent, his management could not seem to take such risk. GA had to wait until that right role came. Months passed and nothing came through. Now, with no project in sight, speculations started to float about moving to another network. As many have done the move, GA’s alleged transfer would be usual and nothing extraordinary that could affect the network.

However, the loudness of the rumor of making a big leap was silenced. A louder rumor was circulating in the grapevine, that is, GA might not transfer after all. While timing matters, GA’s fate can be revealed in a few months. Staying on could mean that his present network realized he could be a significant loss, while moving out means that a network recognizes his importance in their roster of talents.
