Clarification on the Sunlife-Manila House Statement Regarding the Viral Video


Recently, an insurance company published a note concerning the involvement of the said company in an incident with an exclusive membership club. While many were clueless on the subject of the announcement, others were curious as to the video that seemed to be the source of the announcement.

The alleged video has since gone viral and the event was indeed controversial. The incident occurred in Manila House. The woman in the red dress is talking over her mobile to a certain Jo (a member of Manila House) and complaining about the size of a particular dish served at an event of a Sunlife official that she took charge. Apparently, during the food tasting, the cut of the salmon was bigger than what was served to the guests in the actual party. Hence, the conflict arose, as the bill has yet to be settled at the time of the video.

The video gets interesting when the standing man, who is presumably a managing partner of Manila House, starts screaming at the woman on the phone. As he raised his voice at the woman, he abruptly grabbed the mobile from her and starts explaining to Jo. The staff had to pacify the angry partner.

Sources say that after the incident, the woman filed a complaint against the man for his behavior. The parties settled the matter amicably. The said altercation happened several months ago and the video only surfaced a few days ago, and is still making its way in social media. While the issue has been closed, the resurfacing of the video has caused quite a stir. Hence, the statement was released to point out that all has been resolved.

    1. Sorry, but there is no point in filing a lawsuit. It is a Members Only Club. Ricco Ocampo is the gate keeper, so to speak. What he says, goes—whether you like it or not. You must know that Club Members appreciate him for keeping the integrity of the club’s exclusivity, elitist as that may sound, that is the God-honest truth.

      Here are some of the important issues to note:

      #1 - where was the Club Member during the event? Was he or she dining with the Sun Life party at the time of the incident?

      #2 - if so, then the Club Member should’ve been the one to bring forth the complaint, NOT the PA. MANILA HOUSE is NOT beholden to non-members. That PA was out of order when she acted like she had rights within the club—she doesn’t, never had.

      #3 - whoever the Club Member is must be subjected to some penalty. The mere act of allowing access to non-members, who flout Club rules, tarnishes the the Club’s integrity, as well as its rules and regulations.

      To Sun Life’s infamous PA:
      Maybe best to have your parties elsewhere. No need to act like social climber trying to hold your party/ies in a private club, and not know how to properly conduct yourself/selves when issues arise.

    3. 3:59 yeah this is correct! in some exclusive clubs , you are not allowed to pay the bill if you are not the member. Its never open to the public. So why was this lady in red allowed to party in the club without the member? also in the video her party was over then she complained about the salmon. Why did their group eat all the salmon then complained?

Ito naman si ocampo napicon kay madame pinatulan naman niya. Sa sobrang siguro inis ayan nag wala. Sympre sino ba hinde maiinis kapag hinde ka babayaran diba? So parehas sila may fault.

      Kasi feeling ni girl dinaya sila sa serving ng salmon. During the organizing stage (food tasting), ang pinakita sa kanila malaki ang serving, kaya nila inapprove na yan ang i-serve for the event. Tapos nung mismong event, halos kalahati lang ng expected salmon size ang ni-serve per plate. Nakakahiya, gutom mga guests. Kaya gusto muna mag complain ni girl bakit ganun. Lugi nga naman kung sisingilin sila ng same price for the salmon.

      the stupidity. the fact they are in the club even if they are not a member, they must have an access through a friend who's a member. the fact also na may pre-tasting, it means it was pre-arranged. so di na mahala kung sino o ano. santissima na di nagiisip. mahirap ba i-extend ang utak ng konti?

    1. kung talagang mayaman yan sila, why would the cut of the salmon bother her? I mean seriously? mapapansin ba ng mga totoong alta kung anong cut yan e iba iba naman talaga ang portions ng salmon dahil hindi naman machine cut yan.If you are truly rich then this is so beyond you. Crass issue.

    1. yun ang mali nun rico.Nag warla siya dapat pinagsabihan nya ng maayos.I think na trigger sya na ang nagreklamo ay PA at hindi ang mismong member ng club.Very strict kasi yung Manila House sa kung sino lang pwedeng pumasok sa club.

  9. The owner should just call the police for guests who don’t pay. Mahirap yan ganyan nagco confront mamaya may baril ung guest or magtawag ng mga kasama para pagtulungan siya. Hindi mo masasabi e.

    1. yung mga guest din kung may complain ka wag mo kainin yung food. Para valid ang complain mo at wag mag complain kung guest ka pala ng member ng club. Saling pusa ka na nga ikaw pa ang nagcomplain. Rico should be careful and change the club rules, no membership no entry.

Sa sobrang higpit dyan at alta ang membership di ba you cannot use any facility or dine in the exclusive resto if you are not the member.   10. when you're a guest... especially for an exclusive place like that.. we adjust to the hosts/owners rule as a guest( especially if we're not the member). If there's something wrong.. relay it to the real "member" later on.. subject for settlement later on.

    Ate gurl PA.. acted as if she's the member when even not paying at all after she ate everything.

    You don't get invited to a feast telling the host your food is disgusting when it's not the host who cooked the food but his/her caters. =)

    3. yes that's the point since this is a membership club. It is indeed exclusive for chosen members. So Rico invites those who can have access to the so called exclusive club. Ang hindi maintindihan din bakit yung hindi member ang nagrereklamo?!? akala ko very strict and pili lang ang membership dito.

    4. 6:10 this is so true. Kasi Rico has a guest list. He only invites the who's who of the society for this exclusive club. You can't dine here without his approval. So bakit may PA na nag reklamo. Bakit hindi ang member mismo ang nagreklamo.

    5. 6:10 from what I understand, she was one of the officer who joined the tasting and approved the dish that was later served half the size. She may not be a member but she is a customer who will pay the right amount for the size that was served to them. I think she is talking to the member who might have linked her company to Manila House for private event. If you are to pay for the food then yes you can react to it before paying. Ano pa magagawa if binayaran na. Magreklamo ng maayos (full composure) sabihin kung ano ang problema at isettle ng maayos. The problem is the Manila House director went berserk, loud and violent. Geez!

    7. 2:24 ate sinabi ng Manila House that sa guest na "You don't belong here" I think which irritated him upon learning that the one complaining is not the member. I am a member of an exclusive club. It is clear that only members could pay the club and for the food of their guests.When you pay, you will have to present your membership ID. Kasi kung kahit hindi member pwede magbayad nawawala ang exclusivity at pagka elite.

  12. Hindi ako restaurant owner ha pero diba dapat may standard serving size per entree? Para may control ka on the quality at alam mo kung gaano kadaming ingredients ang bibilihin mo. May disclaimer ka lang dapat na subject to change ang presyo dahil sa pabago-bagong presyo ng bilihin. Kahit ako magrereklamo ako. Babayaran syempre kung nakain na but not at the agreed price.

    2. kung alta itong mga ito dapat alam nila na yung serving portions ng salmon ay iba iba. Pwedeng magkaka weight ito pero ang cut hindi yan ma control because mga chef naman ang nagtatabas nyan hindi machine cut na same size at parehas itsura.

  15. I saw the video. Both of them are wrong. The guy mali sa pag atake niya na parang high blood masyado sa girl in red at sa pag agaw niya ng phone. Ang girl in red naman mali dahil bakit nga siya nag reklamo pero ubos na mga salmon, nakain na nilang lahat. After the party na siya nag reklamo. Another thing is hindi siya member yung kausap niya sa phone ang member.
