Repost: PBA Worried Over FIBA Decision

The PBA on Thursday expressed wariness over possible sanctions that national team players are facing before FIBA following the brawl between Gilas Pilipinas and Australia on Monday.

In a press conference, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the league is waiting for the decision of FIBA, which has opened up disciplinary proceedings for the two squads following a bench-clearing melee that led to the ejection of nine Gilas players and four Boomers.

"Kung suspension hanggang sa FIBA, susundin namin. Kung suspension hanggang PBA, aapela kami," Marcial said, adding that the league will seek the help of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas President Al Panlilio to make the appeal.

Marcial said the PBA has already met with Gilas players to discuss the incident.

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) secretary-general Patrick Gregorio, meanwhile, said they have yet to discuss with the PBA and the SBP the possibility of replacing Gilas players if they will be suspended for the upcoming Asian Games.

"We have to sit down again with the PBA to discuss the possibility with the SBP," Gregorio said.

He said the Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INASGOC) already made an inquiry to them and expressed its "worry."

"They are our Southeast Asian partners. I'm sure they don't want us to be left out. If we are not in the Asian Games basketball, I think malaking kawalan naman 'yun," Gregorio said.

"I would like to believe they will understand our predicament," he added.

The Asian Games 2018 will be held from August to September in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. —JST, GMA News

So ngayon...

    5. I agree. Lifetime ban from FIBA.

Sad but true.

      Delete
    7. 3:49 sayang nga na they worked really hard and just like that nasira ang record/reputation nila. watch pacquiao's interview about the incident.

sana maisip then ng mga current players ang mga pinagdaanan ng mga previous players on how they got on where they are right now. tapos sisirain lang nila ang pinaghirapan ng mga nakaraang players.

Heavier lang sana yung penalties for the members of Gilas management na naki-suntok pa. Matatanda na they should've known better.

      Delete
    2. Yung Gilas management dapat harsher penalty. Hope they ban everyone na kasali except the Rike kid.

Sa Aus, hope Kickert gets a harsh punishment too to set the tone for the punishment of these Gilas players.

  10. They need to get banned to teach them a lesson that despite who started what and all that crap, reminder that you are professionals. There are kids watching your every move and look at you as role models. There are other ways to get mad and release that anger. For example, scoring more points. Maybe they can use that time to hone their skills more and also learn a few things about being professionals.

    1. Truth. If they get off with a mild punishment and maglalaro sila ulit, di matututo mga yan and right now Filipino kids are thinking astig sila kasi binugbog nila mga Aussie. That’s a dangerous kind of thinking to teach the next generation.

Even when they were losing I was proud of them because they used to do it with grace. The team who played fairly and with sportsmanship THAT was the Gilas I was proud of. I hope the next batch of Gilas can bring that pride back.

  19. Ang trabaho ng coach is to protect the players, if he knew na warm ups pa lang medyo foul na ang behavior ng AU sana he did something prior to the start of the game. Like approached the officials. Yung name calling, you can suck that in and chalk it up as trash talk. But if he saw na prior to the game maedyo physical na then he should've done something.

  31. Eh di nagsisisi kayo ngayon. Pati ASIAN game puwedeng maapektuhan. ULITIN NATIN MGA KIDS... WALANG MAGANDANG MAIDUDULOT KUNG PAIIRALIN ANG INIT NG ULO. AS IN WALA. Hindi kawalan sa pagkalalaki if you choose to walk away from a fight. It shows maturity and self restraint.

      Delete
    2. 7:29 obvious na magkaibang scenario. Duh. Saan ko sinabi na pareho? Pero obvious din na INIT NG ULO ang PINAIRAL. They could have called security. So anong napala nila sa pagpatol? KAHIT MAN AGAINST THE MACHINE PA YAN COOLER heads should prevail. Mas dapat ka pa ngang magtimpi kung may kasama kang babae at bata dahil if a fight broke out sila ang mas vulnerable dahil chances are di nila maipagtatanggol ang sarili nila. So ano uli napala nila sa pakikipagbasag ulo? eh di mas malaking sakit ng ulo.
