Repost: Demi Lovato Suspectedly Overdosed, Recovering in Hospital

Singer Demi Lovato is awake and with her family after being hospitalized earlier Tuesday, according to a statement from the singer's representative.

A source close to Lovato's family previously told CNN the singer's hospitalization was the result of an apparent drug overdose.

"Demi is awake and with her family, who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support," said the statement from Lovato's representative. "Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to CNN it received a call at 11:22 a.m. for a medical emergency and transported a 25-year-old woman to a hospital.

A senior law enforcement official told CNN that Lovato is at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She is stable, conscious and breathing, the official said.

Lovato's hospitalization on Tuesday comes just weeks after the singer, who has struggled with substance abuse, revealed she had recently suffered a relapse.

The pop star made the revelation about the setback in a single, "Sober," released late last month.

Lovato, who turns 26 next month, said in March that she was celebrating six years of sobriety.

The singer has spoken candidly in interviews about her use of cocaine and addiction to alcohol, as well as mental health issues and an eating disorder.

"Sober" did not reveal the nature of Lovato's relapse.

"I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again," Lovato sings in "Sober." "I want to be a role model but I'm only human."

The lyrics also include Lovato singing, "I'm sorry that I'm here again. I promise I'll get help."

Lovato was supposed to appear on the Tuesday night episode of the Fox game show "Beat Shazam," which is hosted by Jamie Foxx, but a network spokesperson said the show would air a different episode in its place "in light of recent reports."

Lovato taped her guest appearance on the show in December 2017.

"Our thoughts go out to Demi and her family," Fox said in a statement provided to CNN.

Lovato was next scheduled to perform on Thursday in Atlantic City, New Jersey, but her appearance has been canceled, a spokesperson for Live Nation confirmed to CNN.

Lovato got her start in entertainment at age ten as a regular on the children's series "Barney & Friends."

That led to guest roles on TV shows like "Prison Break" and "Just Jordan," followed by Disney Channel's "As the Bell Rings."

Lovato's role as aspiring singer Mitchie Torres in the Disney TV movie "Camp Rock" introduced the world to her musical talent. Her debut album, the pop-rock "Don't Forget," released in 2008.

As a regular on the Disney series "Sonny with a Chance," and Lovato became one of the network's brightest young stars.

Her second album, "Here We Go Again," released in 2009.

After three seasons on "Sonny with a Chance," Lovato announced she was leaving the show to focus on recording and her third album, "Unbroken."

She later had a recurring role on the Fox series "Glee" and served as a judge on the reality singing competition "The X-Factor" for two seasons.

Lovato's self-titled album, "Demi," released in 2013. Her albums "Confident," which earned her a Grammy nomination, and "Tell Me You Love Me" followed.

Her hits like "Skyscraper," "This Is Me" (a duet with ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas) and "Sorry Not Sorry" firmly established Lovato as a pop superstar.

Lovato's most recent North American tour leg, which ran from February to April, grossed more than $20 million, according to tracking by Pollstar.

Citing production issues, Lovato postponed the South American portion of her tour in April.

She last performed July 22 at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, California.

CNN's Miguel Marquez contributed to this report.

  7. I rather think that somebody who was through rehab should be supervised for around 5 years to help them be strong and to keep them sober. Too much temptation in showbiz, more so when you've got the dough to fuel vices. Looking at Britney and the intervention for her. Now she's doing good.

If you are a fan, dapat health muna ng idol niyo ang concern niyo. Maybe she promised you guys that she will be better but we don't really know the shiz she goes through. Kaya please just pray for her.

  10. I'm glad she she has access to rehab and second chances. I'm happy that we treat her with compassion.

I hope we feel the same towards other filipinos - those whose second chances were taken away, whose guilt was presumed immediately, those who were poor and helpless and victims of our unjust government.

  11. Watch her YouTube documentary and you will fully understand how she turned out to be like that and when it all started. I sympathize her for everything that she went through and probably she's still going through. The demons of addiction are even harder to beat if you're suffering from mental health and in her case bipolar disorder. It is true though that no amount of fame and fortune can replace the true happiness that a person's heart seeks.

  17. She has so many issues- alcohol and drug addiction, bulimia, self-harm, bipolar disorder- that i suspect it will be a lifelong battle for her. Her addictive personality is also embedded in her genes as her father also abused alcohol and drugs. It's hard to beat genetic predisposition. I hope she surrounds herself with people who keep looking for her best interests.

  18. I have no sympathy for drug users like her. There are people who are bipolar like Demi but they’re not into drugs. She has choices and she chooses to go back to drugs. She dropped her friends and manager recently. Kept her supplier friends i guess. Opiate antidote Narcan was given by a friend, so she surrounds herself with drug-using friends because they carry Narcan. Narcan effectively reverses overdose effect. Parang ano lang may dala kang Tums kasi mapapasabak ka sa kainan.

    1. She also has eating disorder. She lived in a sober apartment after rehab and was surrounded with people who was facing the same psychological disorders. If it's easy for you to say that you have no sympathy for her and had the audacity to compare her with other bipolar patients, then I guess you have no idea what it feels to have bulimia and bipolar at the same time. And just to inform you, she was bullied, body shamed as a child and she self harmed. Meanwhile her family faced problems as well because of her father, most importantly, her mom.

    2. So wala kang sympathy kay Anthony Bourdain, Whitney Houston, Kurt Cobain, Heath Ledger and Michael Jackson? All of them are drug abusers. Baka fan ka rin nila ha.

Madaling magsabi kung kung ano ang dapat gawin esp. if you don't have mental disorder like her. It's the judgemental people like you ang nagpapalala sa mga taong gaya ni Demi.

“You should never tell anyone that ‘YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE SUFFERING’, ‘Everyone’s like you’, or ‘If you have the courage to die, you can live’.

Physical scars and psychological scars are different.

I hope everyone can think for a second that scars exist even if you can’t see them.”

  20. I think it all boils down to choice. She chose to do drugs and destroy her life so she gets no sympathy from me. Ang dami mas malala pa problema kesa sa kanya pero managed to shoulder on without resorting to drugs.

    2. Girl, agree. Hindi siya tinutukan ng baril sa ulo to do drugs. It was her choice.

And what irks me about her is how she shades artists like mariah and taylor and then ito pala ginagawa niya. Oh, well.
