Its not about the money. Nasa bansa natin sya nag ttrabaho kaya dapat lang mag abide sya sa law. It's about embracing being a filipino. I understand where she's coming from. It's hard being mixed especially when you have a different background to those who are not a minority in the real, general population. You never really fit in 100% anywhere. BUT, very simplistic ang argument nya. She might consider herself Filipino nationally but ethnically, her "mix" or her otherness is what gives her the advantage, especially her European values and her independence that goes against much of the Filipino values. Because isn't being Filipino having those values and being able to speak the language? (Of course, we make allowances to half-Caucasian half-Filipino representatives who have lived here and are part of the community, although that is a different topic itself because being mixed comes with privileges that normal/standard/non-white Filipinos don't experience...)
Endearing nga lang that she's connected to the culture but she can never be really considered a Filipino, at least in the minds of others, it's something that they have to adjust upon meeting her and learning more about her.

She might consider herself Filipino nationally but ethnically, her "mix" or her otherness is what gives her the advantage, especially her European values and her independence that goes against much of the Filipino values. Because isn't being Filipino having those values and being able to speak the language? (Of course, we make allowances to half-Caucasian half-Filipino representatives who have lived here and are part of the community, although that is a different topic itself because being mixed comes with privileges that normal/standard/non-white Filipinos don't experience...)
ReplyDeleteEndearing nga lang that she's connected to the culture but she can never be really considered a Filipino, at least in the minds of others, it's something that they have to adjust upon meeting her and learning more about her.

ReplyDeleteang nakakaloka, kapag may mga poreynjer na may katiting na dugong pinoy ang sumikat sa ibang bansa, maraming magsasabi ng "proud to be pinoy" keverloo. pero etong si solen na dito lumaki at dito nag-aral, marunong mag-tagalog at dito nakatira eh kekwestyunin pa ang pagka-Filipino.
