As a medical personnel, the issue in wrong representation of CPR is that some patients, not everyone, but some, base the conduct of CPR from shows they see on TV. A colleague I have, in more than 1 occasion experienced a parent stopping him from conducting CPR to the patient because the parent thought the way CPR was being done was too hard it might kill the patient. Point is, even if that were just 1 or 2 instances, that is still 1 or 2 lives that would have been wasted if families would expect actual healthcare providers elicit CPR the way these seryes do. As much as its easier to put responsibility on the viewer, I think the shows also need to put respectful consideration on how they represent medical assistance. If they have no idea how to correctly do it and have no one to consult re the right way to do CPR, they probably could at least avoid showing the CPR part in their story. The nurse actress did not need to compress heavily on the actress, she just needed to at least pretend she was.

If there were med staff eh ano ba naman yung mag paturo sila pano mag CPR? accurateness of a scene could get u a long way, na iimpress ang viewers and makes them loyal to a show. The process was right darling . I am a healthcare professional . I was not offended. I got the message but putting thoracic pressure on a real human being for the sake of art is so unsafe.
Well it’s true naman, tv medical scenes are so fake, funny and inaccurate in pinas shows. They should learn from many medical show in the US. They are really good, very realistic and mostly accurate.

Maraming nagmamarunong . There are multiple times that films or series have done CPR incorrectly. I have DVD ‘s of Grey’s anatomy , ER , House , The walking dead , iron man and etc . The hands were way off the chest , the elbows were bent and the rescuer was far from the patient, and effective chest compressions which literally means hard and fast was not demonstrated . Another show had a patient that was DNR yet got resuscitated. . In a medical standpoint misrepresented. Seriously doing the actual chest compressions on a person with circulation meaning has active signs of life is asking for a lawsuit. Such idiotic and uneducated comments . Unbelievale. Stick to the issue.
If we follow Suzette's line of argument, I would like to stress that the talent nurse misappropriated the basic procedure of saving a life! This is more important that misappropriation of culture because life is at stake here. So, Suzette, you clean your own backyard before you clean others'.

DeleteAs a medical personnel, the issue in wrong representation of CPR is that some patients, not everyone, but some, base the conduct of CPR from shows they see on TV. A colleague I have, in more than 1 occasion experienced a parent stopping him from conducting CPR to the patient because the parent thought the way CPR was being done was too hard it might kill the patient. Point is, even if that were just 1 or 2 instances, that is still 1 or 2 lives that would have been wasted if families would expect actual healthcare providers elicit CPR the way these seryes do. As much as its easier to put responsibility on the viewer, I think the shows also need to put respectful consideration on how they represent medical assistance. If they have no idea how to correctly do it and have no one to consult re the right way to do CPR, they probably could at least avoid showing the CPR part in their story. The nurse actress did not need to compress heavily on the actress, she just needed to at least pretend she was.

Pag nd ka marunong mgCPR pwedo mabalian buto ang patient. Show lang nmn yan. Mali tlga kasi ni ate ung balikat nya ang nagalaw which is kabaligtaran. Bwal gumalaw ang balikat, straight ang arms dapat but again kunwari lang nmn kasi yan.

ReplyDeleteWrong suzi, it is relevant. For one thing this implies na wala medical staff sa production for emergency situation. If there were med staff eh ano ba naman yung mag paturo sila pano mag CPR? accurateness of a scene could get u a long way, na iimpress ang viewers and makes them loyal to a show. Small matter cguro sa iba na they got it wrong..but it doesnt hurt naman to get right either.

DeleteWell it’s true naman, tv medical scenes are so fake, funny and inaccurate in pinas shows. They should learn from many medical show in the US. They are really good, very realistic and mostly accurate.

DeleteSa mga nagrereklamo, hindi mo magagawa yung totoong CPR sa conscious na tao, it’s very painful and may chance na mabreak yung ribs. Kung totoong resuscitation ang gagawin nila eh di magiging SPG kasi dapat nakaexposed yung chest area.

DeleteSweetie don’t compare us to the dostards. There is such a thing as intelligent or educated consumers. Jejetards or jejemons are prevalent in one specific station. I have more than 500 channels to choose from and some of us knows how to use the remote. The issue that SD was talking about was regarding cultural misappropriation but someone who cannot carry an educated and intelligent discourse redirected or tried to deflect the issue thinking and was assuming that tards proliferate on both sides. From the responses on this thread one can conclude which side has more educated or literate viewers. Am I correct?

ReplyDeleteMaraming nagmamarunong . There are multiple times that films or series have done CPR incorrectly. I have DVD ‘s of Grey’s anatomy , ER , House , The walking dead , iron man and etc . The hands were way off the chest , the elbows were bent and the rescuer was far from the patient, and effective chest compressions which literally means hard and fast was not demonstrated . Another show had a patient that was DNR yet got resuscitated. . In a medical standpoint misrepresented. Seriously doing the actual chest compressions on a person with circulation meaning has active signs of life is asking for a lawsuit. Such idiotic and uneducated comments . Unbelievale. Stick to the issue.
