    1. Mas ok nga na palaban at matapang siya eh.

    2. that's how you present your point. and hello that was her kid who got injured it was really objective of her nga not to focus on her son sa hanash nya more of pointing out the problems that must be addressed plus giving out possible recommendations.

    3. Kung hindi ka magmamatapang, walang makikinig sayo. And she’s the mom here

      Delete
    4. Mas matakot ka kapag walang action nangyari after her revelations. Magpasalamat ka nag-iingay sya to save other people’s lives. Know the difference between nagpapapansin and wanting to save lives.

    5. Is there an agency where it can accredit any individual as professional trainer? Maybe there’s none that’s why, if locals know the basic of surfing they can “volunteer” na to any tourists as trainer. Parang sa mountain climbing, you cant go up there w/o guides. Locals from the site will just present themselves as guide. Noone will give a damn to apply as professional trainers/guides as it will involve money esp if there’s an accreditation agency or something for it. This is the normal goings on out there. They can just embrace it or put a stop to all these. I guess, what these establishment can “offer” is a common first aid clinic near the beach and lifeguard(s) for peak season if they cannot afford lifeguard(s) all year round. If all these can’t be worked out then they must have like a sign that says SURF AT YOUR OWN RISK or CLIMB AT YOUR OWN RISK or DIVE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

      Delete
    2. you clearly didn't understand what she's trying to say. Dun ka pa nagfocus hindi sa maling system in siargao that must be addressed.

      Delete
    3. OMG you just don't get it, do you?

      Delete

      Delete
    5. My God! Where’s your logic? DOT has been marketing Siargao as the best surfing destination in the WORLD. What Karen pointed out is correct in every point. We cannot compete in the international market if the govt and business owners continue to have a backyard mentality in everything they do. They should have certification for surfing instructors like what they have in place for the diving spots in the country (ie instructors are PADI certified)

      Delete
    6. Kaya nga May beginner level di ba? Her points are valid. Siargao is marketed as a tourist destination. With surfing, accidents can happen anytime and yet they’re not prepared to handle this.

      Delete
    7. 1:02 this could happen to you.

      Delete
    8. Alam na nya yung pagkukulang nya. Ang point nya dapat certified and mga instructors at may sapat na medical staff and clinics dahil sikat na tourist spot ang Siargao.

      Delete
    9. This is the reason why I don't leave home without my first aid kit. Accidents happen anywhere and I don't rely on other facilities to have it. Most of the time expired ang mga gamit as kits nila kung meron ma

      Delete

Karen is pointing out a shortcoming by the LGU in Siargao - plain and simple actually, I cannot imagine how people read so much into this.

      Delete
    11. 2:40 - nakuha mo! And what is worse is that the entire Philippine government is run with that backyard mentality. Haaaayyy! I dont know if the govt officials are really that st***d or they just dont care because they would rather line their pockets.

      Delete
  3. Every tourist should check out security and medical services BEFORE availing of the hotel services like surfing classes, swimming, etc.

    1. So kasalanan pa niya?!

      Delete
    2. 1:04 Wow if people think the same way you do talagang di aasenso bansa natin.

  4. Ouch ang hapdi nyan!

  5. Sana magawan to ng aksyon. Wag na hayaan na may mas malala pang mangyari because worse than this can happen to anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Oh my god. Kawawa naman anak nya! I feel for karen ganyan ang nanay kahit itaob ang siargao para mapanagot ang nangyari sa anak nyA

    ReplyDelete
  7. So instant news agad sa kanya yan. Pati yung local govt inatake nya. Iba talaga ang media, feeling priviledge! Nakakaloka!

    1. I would do the same thing if it happened to my kid. The only difference is, my complaint will likely be futile whereas karen’s will be addressed. Karen is doing the right thing by emphasizing on what needs to be done.

      Delete
    2. 1:25 AM, kitid ng utak mo

      Delete
    3. Buti na lang there are media personnel like karen who use their influence to help bring positive change.

      Delete
    4. Been there. All her points are true in fact may mga kulang pa. LGU not doing anything in siargao just like other places in pinas na tourist destination. LGU in siargao owns the big resorts.

      Delete
    5. Ask siargao about a tourist who needed to be transported via barko for emergency reasons.

      Delete
  8. may point itong si Karen and the city government should look into this because this could happen to any of us while visiting Siargao.

    1. She raised an important issue. Ang mali niya is letting her kid surf despite the fact na may balance issues and special needs. It is an extreme sport. Kung yung mga professionals nga naaccident pa most likely ang mga beginner with balance issues din. Just sayin if that was my kid I’d let him/ her swim in a pool instead.

      Delete
    2. No, it is completely the fault of the instructor. They should be properly trained to instruct people in an extreme sport and have all the necessary safety training and certifications.

      Delete
    3. 1:50 sana nagbasa ka at nakaintindi. D nga sa safe spot for beginners dinala yung bata. Victim blaming ka!

      Delete
    4. 4.20 Really victim blaming? It’s called common sense. Ikaw ata ang hindi nakakainitindi. Napakitid ng utak mo.

      Delete
    5. 1:50, basahin mo ulit. The kid has already surfed in the past. The fact that he is in thr autism spectrum proves nothing of his "special needs." Many expert surfers are in the spectrum. I suggest you read up on autism before you comment on anything on it.

      Delete
    6. Common sense can be subjective. For Karen Davila at that time, her common sense pointed to this:

      1. Despite the kid's being in the autism spectrum, Karen knows the child's capabilities. The kid was able to surf in Baler before - so why won't he be able to do it again?

      2. The kid was being entrusted to what she believed was a capable trainer -someone recommended by another trainer, ergo, it was easy to assume that this trainer knows what he is doing.

      3. Karen was within the understanding that they are within the beginners area - which she also discussed in detail in that post. So, she was kampante na it wasn't going to be difficult for the kid.

Common sense for Karen in that particular situation would point to - "Why not give it a try?"

      Delete
  9. If gusto mo ng safe. Alam mo namang surfing is not an easy sport. Magkakasugat at magkakasugat ka dyan. Lalo bata pa yan.

    ReplyDelete

At ung walang first aid available. Wala ring lifeguard! Safety ung pinopoint nya.

      Delete
    2. ate hindi mo na gets ang punto nya. hindi naman nya sinabing wala dapat maaksidente, ang kwinekwestyon nya yung kawalan ng safety measures, first aid and professional personnel na makakatulong kung magkaroon ng aksidente. wala ring professional certification yung mga trainers which is mali kasi nga tulad ng sinabi mo surfing is not easy, it is extreme sport. kuha mo na? victim blaming ka pa

      Delete
    3. kahit sa public pool or water park kelangan padin may lifeguard or medic for the safety of the guests. yun po ang point nya. hindi mo yata binasa teh.

      Delete

      Delete
    5. Wrong. Theyy shouldn’t allow surfing in rocky areas, especially for learners lang.

      Delete
    6. This kind of mentality is the reason why the Philippines remains to be a third world country!!

      Delete
    7. JUSMIO. If you read her post carefully, you would notice that she NEVER delved on her son's injuries. She never did the 'kawawa naman ang anak ko ang daming sugat!' etc etc. Her main point was, which she discussed more lengthily, was the lack of a first aid station, and absence of a properly-equipped hospital in the area. Yun ang punto nya bes.

      Delete
    8. 5:22am - tumpak!

      Delete
  10. You should blame yourself! You should not allowed your son to surf.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies

      Delete
    2. siguro yung anak mo nasa loob lang ng malaking bubble no? very sheltered? at may kasama pong instructor ang bata. kakaloka pagiisip ng ibang tao tsk.

      Delete
    3. Anoooo??? Kasalanan pa ni Karen?? She only allowed her child to enjoy an activity under adult supervision, upon the presumption na responsible yung teacher of a beginner's course, and they were in a popular tourist/surfing area.

Ang mali dito, falsely advertised yung skills/accountability ng instructors, and walang first aid or lifeguard or any workable safety system in place kahit may govt budget naman pala.

      Delete
Ang point, kung nasa matao kang Lugar, mapa-dagat o mall o Luneta pa yan, meron talaga parati dapat first aid or emergency system.

    5. Hina ng comprehension mo @1:27! Tsk, tsk, sayang ang utak. Gamitin mo naman!

  12. OA. Kung maka-demand. Wala ring ganyan sa Boracay, El Nido, etc. And these are more touristy destinations.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There are lifeguards and first aid stations in El Nido.

      Delete
    2. That’s exactly her point. A country that advertises a place as a prime tourist destination should have the basic needs in place. Hindi mo ba naisip na we can get a boost in tourism if we have better facilities to these so called tourist spots?

      Delete
    3. 1:31 AM, Kitid ng utak mo

      Delete
    4. boracay and el nido are not for surfing, though.

      Delete
    5. And is that something to be proud of? Mali bang magdemand if it is for the safety of the tourists?

      Delete
    6. That's not the point. Dapat ngang magkaroon ng ganito. Basic lang ito.

      Delete
    7. May lifeguards naman sa Boracay

      Delete
    8. Tumfak kz diyan ate. Been there wala talaga medic so lookout mo iyon at bago pumunya sa isang lugar dapat search mo din sa google kung saan may malapit na hospital or clinic, how malby hours ang travel in case of emergency.

      Delete
  13. I agree with her though except for one thing: alam naman niya pala na walang credentials or license or whatever yung surfing instructor ni David bat siya pumayag? I know he was recommended by the other instructor but still...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1:35 AM, Nag assume ka kaagad na alam niya from the beginning baka nalaman lang niya walang credential after the accident. Victim blaming ka pa dyan

      Delete
    2. if i read her post correctly, parang nalaman na lang nya yung mga certification problems in the end na lang.. when she talked to the mayor

      Delete
  14. Please guys, you wouldn’t want that to happen to one of your family members. At ganyan pa kalala. Mag stay ang peklat nyan hanggang pagtanda.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This exactly.

And yes, waht Karen is pointing out here is for everyone's safety. Hindi naman sya humihingi ng more than pa sa nararapat. I mean, how simple and 'common sense' it is to have a first aid station set up in a highly-frequented tourist area.

      Delete
  15. Licensing of trainers is a must! I had a friend who almost died of drowning because her trainer panicked and left. Good thing another trainer was able to save her but same with Karen's case, she never saw the trainer again.

    ReplyDelete
  16. My point nmn xa..kaya lang..pag ordinary citizen b yan pupunta agad ang mayor? May point xa pero parang masyadong matapang ang atake nya..agad2 s dot at mayor..parang kayang kaya nya ipagsigawan n hoy im powerful..d dpat nangyayari s pamilya k 2..sna lahat din ng accident dun nbibigyan attention d dlang dhil karen davila ka.

    1. Anong point mo? Even ordinary citizen pede magreklamo directly sa mayor, pedeng maging matapang! Anong masama sa pagiging matapng! Ikaw pano ka ba sa ganyang sitwasyon? Ikaw ung tipong iiyak at walang gagawin???

      Delete
    2. di nya kasalanan if they paid attention to her. maybe she was the only one brave enough to talk to the mayor about the problems

      Delete
    3. Just be thankful she has a powerful voice. This will benefit everyone, not just her.

      Delete
    4. And you think if it happened to just ordinary citizen, the LGU will do something about it? She’s using her influence in a positive way, yet some people see it negatively. Pinoy nga naman!

      Delete
    5. Buti nga nagreklamo siya ngayon. Para pagpunta mo dyan in the future di mangyari sayo yan.

      Delete
  17. Karen is right at the end of the let’s put aside na news anchor sya big name to say the least she a mother and her first instinct is to protect her cubs so let’s act while you can city government of siargao before something more serious accident or some fatalities will be recorded

    ReplyDelete
  18. Siargao is not as developed as Boracay. Dapat expectations ay bawasan but nevertheless, it’s also a wake up call sa local government lalo na naghahanap ng ibang option ang mga tao dahil sa issues ng boracay.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. but still safety should be prioritized.

      Delete
    4. What?? Bawasan ang expectations?? Anong hinihithit mo 2:18??

      Delete
  19. I agree.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agree 2:29, dito sa north america may life guards, warning signs & may first aid/emergency na naka ready.

      Delete
    2. True! 2:29. I love going down the Tampa Bay area, Miami or the Caribbean kesa umuwi sa atin. Ganda nga ng mga beach pero kulang sa safety/ lifeguards, ni walang demarcation line hangang saan lang pwede lumangoy ang mga tao, not even warning signs

      Delete
  20. Victim Blaming na naman. I think people are missing the point. It is a resort!!! No Medical personnel, No Medical supplies, No nothing!!!! World-Class resort ba kamo? Pasalamat na nga tayo at Kay Karen nangyari yan coz at least she has a voice & people will attention to her. What happened is preventable. Kahit band-aid wala? Ang meron lang is "excuses". Easy to say "More Fun in the Phils." Very disappointed!

    ReplyDelete

    1. The accident didnt happen at the resort. Surfing happens at the public beaches.

      Delete
  21. That’s typical in pinas, di ba. No health and safety. No proper training of staff. No hospital in tourists areas. Scary.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Naloka ako sa mga sagot ni mayor! May power ang local to regulate. Pwede nga naman sya mag collect ng taxes from the resort owners and yun ang magfinance ng first aid clinic and lifeguards. Trainers din should be first aiders.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Siargao existed before you rowdy and entitled tourists and it will continue to exist even if all of you decide to not come/come back. Spare siargao of the environmental and local harassment from entitled tourists. Save Siargao! Dun na kayo sa ibang isla na may first aid, life guards and trained instructors. The island is meant for legit surfers and backpackers. Bawal maarte. The island doesnt need you.

    1. This!!! Manage your expectations please.

      Delete
    2. Agree. And i prefer it to remain that way.

      Delete
    3. Hindi kaartehan ang pag prioritize ng safety. Even legit surfers or backpackers need to be given medical attention if magkaroon ng aksidente. How dare you say that? If you want to save the island then isarado na lang yan. Wag pagkakitaan ang isla tapos simpleng first aid service wlaa. Lakas ng loob. The island doesnt need a dumb person like you too!

      Delete
    4. Pa legit legit ka pa. You sound as entitled as the tourists you’re accusing of! Save the island by not capitalizing on it. Dont open it to public then if you want to save it.

      Delete
    5. sabihin mo yan sa DOT/ Kat De Castro. stop marketing Siargao as a tourist destination then!

      Delete
    6. Kaloka.

      Delete
    7. I bet kung nasugatan ka you wont need medical aid.

      Delete
Ikaw itong feeling entitled.

And so mga legit surfers and backpackers di kailangan ng immediate first aid attention? Bawal maarte? Nganga?
Ayusin mo yang baluktot mong logic.

      Delete
    9. I don't think you will say the same thing if YOU were caught in the middle of a mishap and there were no trained people nor medical facilities to attend to you. Tourists are NOT accident proof.

      Delete
    10. Kahit gaano pa kagaling ang surfer, accidents happen because its inevitable. Kaya dapat laging handa, meron dapat first aid stand at may trained personnel to apply first aid
