Haha same! I am from Iloilo but when I went abroad to study highschool they all thought I was american and so is my dad. Even when I came back here natatawa sila pag naririnig nila ako magtagalog. Beautiful women can be found in all corners of the Philippines kahit sa probinsya ka pa galing or Manila.
Madami akong classmate sa college na magaganda tapos bung isa isa kaming nagpakilala sa buong klase karamihan pala galing sa ibang province. Simula noon nabago na ang tingin ko sa probinsyana beauty.
Halos lahat may lahi na. I dont have any issue sa mga may lahi pero sana purong pinay manalo. Malabo ano? Sana kahit may lahi pero ninuno mo na. Tapos hindi na halata sayo. Ganyan. Kakamiss din kasi yung dati.
The problem is, hindi tayo nag place dati. Maybe we should just appreciate the hard work that these ladies do instead of criticizing them for having foreign blood. They still choose to represent our country internationally.
Tim Yap is well travelled. He might not have known all but i bet he knew some girls are not really from their provinces because maybe of their accent, how they carry themselves, or how much knowledge they have about their places. He must have talked or mingled with the few of them to know.
I am from the province too & my grade school & high school classmates were not purely Filipino - half Filipino and Spanish/Swiss/American/Chinese...etc. and yes they had the accent 'cos they also lived abroad for some time before coming home. And they managed to retain the accent because they don't really speak Tagalog or even the local dialect at home (I know because a lot of them struggled in Filipino). So pls. if you haven't visited all of the provinces, stop generalizing.

Not defending him, but just based on how I understood his tweet that moment I read it.
He's probably not pertaining to the physical look, rather on the authenticity of the province that they are representing. That is a very common scenario even on local pageants. Even if the candidate just happened to visit the place or probably lived there for a month or two, they have her represent the baranggay/province/city as if she's lived there for years. TENURE, that's what he's probably referring to.
Yan din observation ko. At ang ibig sabihin ni Tim Yap ay puro half breed ang BBP candidates at hindi puro na Pinay. Siguro pinagtuunan nila ng pansin ngayon ay yung makapagsalita ng Ingles mga kandidata kaya halos lahat nanirahan abroad.
I don't know what to say, that was a very insensitive comment. So he can tell when someone is from Capiz, Leyte, etc. just by looking at them? I didn't know people from each province have distinctive characteristics.

Why is everyone jumping on Tim's throat? He did not say probinsyanas are ugly. It's just that they have certain features that are associated with the region they live in. Cebuanas look mestiza and so do women from Bacolod. Cainta women look very Mediterranean ( bumbayin) ilocanas are known to have deep olive skin. Yun Lang yun. E madami nakahian na ng caucasians hence the foreign sounding names. Some do not look Pinay at al.

ReplyDeleteWhy is everyone jumping on Tim's throat? He did not say probinsyanas are ugly. It's just that they have certain features that are associated with the region they live in. Cebuanas look mestiza and so do women from Bacolod. Cainta women look very Mediterranean ( bumbayin) ilocanas are known to have deep olive skin. Yun Lang yun. E madami nakahian na ng caucasians hence the foreign sounding names. Some do not look Pinay at al.
