Well, might be a good idea to cast Japanese or those with Japanese lineage women for the role. However, for this kind of singing and acting genre, they are quite unheard of in the international scene. Kindly correct me if I am wrong, just that I haven't read nor heard any well-known Japanese women doing theater acting and singing in English.
Megumi herself is using a non-Japanese surname. LOL. Some folks have to realize that when it comes to music and casting, it is the story that would decide who can play the role and what would it take for the actor/actress to bag the role. Race or nationality aren't really something to be considered, but on who is the best to give life to the character.
I liked Lea's response. She played nga naman a Vietnamese girl in Miss Saigon and an American mother in Les Miserables. What's wrong with her playing a Japanese sister? She can give justice naman to the role.
