President Rodrigo Duterte was hailed 2016’s “Person of the Year” by Chinese magazine, Yazhou Zhoukan (Asia Weekly).

The Philippine leader appeared in a 7-page cover story in the January 1, 2017 issue of the publication, considered the “TIME magazine of the Chinese-speaking world.”

Facebook user Joaquin Sy, who uploaded scanned pages of the Yazhou Zhoukan’s feature on Duterte, said the chief executive was given the recognition for having “changed the balance of power in Asia.”

Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said that Duterte’s “announcement of an independent foreign policy that consists of his distancing away from the us, and forging closer ties with China” were the magazine’s basis for giving the title to the Filipino leader.

“The article also praises Duterte’s good governance and anti-corruption campaign as the reason for his popularity among Filipino,” Abella stated in a palace press briefing on Tuesday, January 3.

Yazhou Zhoukan is the “world’s only Chinese-language international affairs magazine” published in Hong Kong and circulated in several Asian countries such as Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Recently, Duterte was included in Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s most powerful people.

He was also named as the “most ‘googled’ person of 2016” in the Philippines, while Wikipedia cited his entry as one of the most edited pages in the free online encyclopedia.

How?

    1. Ang liit natin no, pero they recognize us- that we actually exist, that we can actually do things! That we are not just the Philippines na pwede nilang gawing TUTA, gaya ng mga nakaraang TERMINO! Nakakaproud.

  3. He might be uncouth and can be quite vulgar, but he knows how to balance his relationships with superpowers and emerging regional players. The red carpet from the top of the plane stairs on his state visit to China was very telling.

Militarily? Have you seen our Armed Forces? So please, tell me my dear Dutertard, how is PH a force to be reckoned with?

  5. Well of course, he's their lackey, their b*tch. He will provide them all the natural resources of the Philippines to please his communist masters. He'd happily kill the drug addicts but will do nothing about the influx of drugs from China. He deserves the Person of China of the Year award.

  6. Checklist of how to be China's Person of the Year
    --Be a communist sympathizer
--Give China free reign on natural resources that are supposed to be for your own people
--Give Chinese Drug lords and other such criminals free access to the country and keep letting them supply drugs, pero para hindi halata kunwari may War ka on Drugs pero imbes na yung bigtime players ang tinatarget eh puro si Manong Trike driver sa kanto lang ang laging pinapatay.
    --Lick Putin's boots.
