Just Not Ecstatic Enough

Over the past seasons, a Hit Teleserye (HT) is turning out to be a platform for reviving interest for seasoned actors and generating exposure for new talents. With a popular storyline, HT has managed to write in roles that are supposed to enrich the plot and thereby attract fans of their guests. HT has been doing well, but lately the production team has been alarmed by the lower ratings.

During its initial months, HT maintained high ratings and practically silenced all competition at its timeslot. The ratings prompted rival networks to air shows that they thought could change the ratings game. Nonetheless, HT continued its formula and the leads proved they are primetime royalties. However, current audience reality has indicated the short attention span of viewers. Unlike years ago, when a teleserye could last for years, today, two seasons seem to be enough and the audience loses interest and shifts to other shows.

HT, meanwhile, has already announced at extended run, but dwindling ratings might make its announcement a dud. Hence, the production team had to inject new blood into the story. This situation proved to be a big break for a junior loveteam that has been gaining momentum. Having been discovered in a reality show, Young Actor (YA) and Pretty Lass (PL) amassed their following. HT was banking on the reel couple to pull the younger crowd and revive their sagging ratings.

While YA and PL were indeed bringing the interest in the show, given that there fans are active in social media, a bigger problem was happening behind the scenes: PL could not act. As patience was extended to YA and PL, expectations were high in terms of their acting. The level of acting of PL was disturbing because even a seasoned lead is bothered by the delay in their schedule. The delays stem from the so many takes PL needs to get the right emotion for her scenes. Between her acting level and the popularity of her loveteam, the production team had to make a choice. The choice was to extend more patience in coaching PL in her scenes. After all, talent could be honed, but ratings are harder to raise. YA and PL stay, and everyone has to be tolerant and supportive.
