Mercado–Richards Korean Drama Remake Put on Hold to Give Way to Richards–Mendoza Teleserye

Sometime ago, GMA broached the idea of remaking the hit Korean drama, ‘My Love from the Star.’ The lead roles of Cheon Song-yi would be played by Ultimate Star, Jennylyn Mercado, and Do Min-joon would be given to Alden Richards.

Barely having any formal announcement, bashers started lambasting the alleged decision to pair off Mercado and Richards. Unfortunately, Mercado became the target of some overzealous fanatics who insisted on Richards being exclusive to his Kalyeserye partner, Maine Mendoza. Fans demanded that Richards should have a teleserye with Mendoza first before being partnered with any other female star. Thus, fans have spoken, the network listened, and Richards was dropped from the project.

At this point, the network could not find a suitable actor who could play the demands of the role of Do Min-joon, the alien who is nearly perfect as a human being. Allegedly, the rival network was asked if the station could ‘borrow’ Matteo Guidicelli. Of course, the Kapamilya network would not hear of such idea.

Although the name of GMA’s Ken Chan has emerged as among possible choices, the project has to be shelved for the meantime. As for Richards and Mendoza, the network and APT are cooking up their teleserye. This project is being tagged as the reason for the sudden ending of their Kalyeserye.
