Atom Araullo Resigns as News Reporter for ABS-CBN's News and Current Affairs

ABS-CBN News personality Atom Araullo has resigned from his reportorial duties for TV Patrol, Bandila, and ANC. However, Araullo remains as one of the hosts for the TV station’s morning show, Umagang Kay Ganda, and Red Alert.

Recently, Araullo has been expressing strong opinion on issues, such as the controversy surrounding the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and certain policies of the present administration. Thus, instead of being accused as a biased reporter and thereby affect the integrity of the News Department, Araullo opted to resign.

In the meantime, Araullo will use his time to complete his pending book projects, explore opportunities to pursue his interest in making independent films, and possibly write a column in one of the major dailies and. His resignation from his post will allow him to express his opinions freely and not be limited by his affiliation to a news organization. He also plans to focus on his advocacies on the environment and climate change.

Araullo started his career in the broadcast industry at a young age when he was one of the hosts of 5 and Up. In 2005, he completed his degree in BS Applied Physics from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. After graduation, he became a segment producer for ABS-CBN and eventually became a field reporter a couple of years after.
