With the level of local economic activity and jobs an event like Miss Universe could generate in the country, I say that would be a great legacy for someone like her, given her position.
I don't think this such a big deal for her to even go up to the president and discuss this. I'm living abroad and not alot of people even care about Ms. Universe.

They need to fix our international airport first before they hold this big event. If we want to promote our country, we should all welcome our visitors via decent airport. (sigh)

I think this is not yet the right time to hold this event. The government is just starting to fix the mess of the past (airport, traffic, drugs, etc.) Let the gov't focus first on more pressing issues before showcasing the country to international event like this. In fact some advance countries are no longer interested with this kind of thing; tayo na lang yata mahilig sa mga beauty pageant. The DOT Secretary should focus more on improving local tourist spots instead of prioritizing this event. Not now please, Ms. Pia.
why don't we show them Davao? exhibit A nga di ba, look at davao! di ba paraiso dun? it would be an opportunity to showcase the safest, cleanest, most beautiful, drug-free city of PH!

There are more relevant projects that he should focus on and allocate more budget such as transportation and public health. Hosting a beauty pageant should be the least of his priority.
