I watched les mis last black saturday. And yes disappointing na hindi siya ung fantine coz I admit na she is one of the reasons I bought a VIP ticket - a Filipina singing in a very famous musical. I guess jervin is disappointed as well, pero mali ung way ng pagkakasabi nya. He could have asked bakit wala si Rachel, instead of accusing her agad. Anyway, I hope Rachel gets better soon.
Sana naiisip ng iba dito that Shin opted to be on a leave of absense sa West End production to perform for the Pinoy followers of Les Mis. It doesn't make any sense for her to miss shows kung wala siyang maayos na dahilan. If you look at her Twitter timeline, she's been having vocal problems from Dec to Jan and pagkauwi niya sa Philippines. Shin, just like everyone, is human. Nagkakasakit din. Kaloka kayo!
I admit this woman's humility. She told a disappointed fan that the show is not about her and even without her in, Les Mis is phenomenal. Gagawin kaya yan ng nga local idols nyo, mga beks?
Sorry to say, but Rachelle's a little bit unprofessional. Theatre actors should take good care of their health as they have a commitment AND responsbility to entertain people. These people spent a good amount of money with the intention of being able to see them perform live. :\
Sabi nga nila, the show must go on. Lea Salonga performs kahit may lagnat. If this is in a 1st world country, you think Rachel would miss the chance of playing Fantine? I don't want to judge but...

And dude, that's why there's such a thing as standbys and understudies in theatre. You cannot expect every main cast member to perform in ALL of the shows during their contract. I dare you to name one theatre performer in Broadway and in the West End na never nag-off due to illness during the entire duration of their contract. Hindi sila robot na kakanta araw-araw na walang magiging consequence sa katawan nila. Sa theatre scene, never kang 100% assured na ang mapapanood mo yung main cast. If so, bakit pa nagsayang ng panahon at pera ang mga casting director at producer na maghanap ng mga swing, understudies, at standbys para maging part ng ensemble? 3 out of 4 times na nanood ako sa West End ng musical, off ang isa sa mga main cast. I never regretted watching them because they brought something different to the table.

Sa mga broadway show, you see it because of the show not the cast. Kaya nga minsan they don't announce kung sino ang gaganap - yung star or understudy.
